It seemed harmless here compared to the one in 1980 that hit my region, but it was a disaster for the city of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, and the small medieval towns of the area. How do you manage to do these beautiful and touching photos. And this question it's not just for you because some of the guys here in the list have lovely photos of moments like those. Best regards, Manuel it takes practice. Sometimes people are just too absorbed to notice what you're doing. Other times they notice, but let you have the shot. And of course, quite often they don't want you to take the shot so, depending on the situation, you either walk away or grab it anyway. Some photographers can make themselves invisible somehow. In fact, the more you take this kind of photo the more easily you can make yourself invisible. I think it is something to do with confidence, observation and knowing when to raise the camera. John Malcolm Brinnin wrote a memoir of the time he spent travelling around the US with Henri Cartier-Bresson. In it he describes how HCB took about 20 photographs of one woman just walking from one room to another, with HCB, and the woman didn't even notice. He also describes them going to a gambling den - For more than an hour he photographed the play at pool tables and slot machines, working so unobtrusively that his subjects seemed unaware of him or, if they were, unperturbed by the intrusion of a presence so patently bland. So the secret of good photography is this: be patently bland. Lots of pain, i guess that's to be, but its not serious enough for an operation or hospital admittance. Bed rest and no weight on the left side. They wanted to send her home last night, but three nurses could not get her out of bed. We told the doctor we would feel better if she at least stayed over night, and she did. Home care can be arranged, Liz and I, working that split shift can be helpful, but i'm still a bit ticked off, they wanted to send her home. How do we get her in the house. Apparently we can get crutches and she can use them if she needs to get from bed to the toilet, but we'll see how that goes. A rider friend stopped by to see her, and she went through the same thin a few years ago, and offered encouragement. Time will tell. Tamron makes caps of almost the identical design that sell at BH Photo in NY for $9, and could likely be found in Portugal or elsewhere in Europe or the UK for equivalent money. The Pentax logo'ed lens cap you're looking for is available from Pentax Imaging in the USA for $13. Plus shipping to me will bring the price up to about $20. To ship it to you would then cost between $24 and $30 ... total is now $50. PayPal will charge an additional ~4.2% (combined currency conversion and handling fees) which nets a total of $52. So if you are willing to pay $52 for a 67mm lens cap, I'd be happy to order it for you and ship it. You'll need to pay for it prior to my placing the order. RE: Question: Has digital photography improved your skills?
Hi Steve, I own a K20d for just about one month, but I feel that I wasted a lot of time in the learning curve of photography while in film. The ability of checking what you have done and if it was the picture you saw before you took the shot, did improve my photo results in the way I always wanted. One thing I do that stayed the same: I do'nt take more shots than before just because it is digital and I can delete them. I stay as criterious as with film regarding the shots I want to do. I've always been quite impressed by the average quality of PUG, but also PESOs, GESOSs, and PAWs... Since almost 2 years, I haven't discarded any PDML e-mail, and it occurred to me that I could compile all those PESOs into a nice database with links to the actual images... A few lines of code and here it is (at least, a preliminary version of it): http://www.lacouture.nom.fr/pdmlpesos/ There is a list of the latest 3663 PESOs, PAWs and GESOs, with the original PDML message, including links to the actual images (as they were in the messages). Of course, many of these links are now broken, and my parsing engine may have done outright errors (typically in interpreting the message titles to determine PESOs/PAWs/GESOs). For now it's a bit crude. However, if there's sufficient interest in this work, I might give it some extra effort for nicer look and features, such as grouping/searching by author, type (PESOs vs GESOs), keywords, displaying PDML member comments threads, or whatever we could imagine... Enjoy, and as usual, feedback is welcome. Hi Christine, This is the problem with SD cards. Sometimes they get more sensitive than we'd like. I shot the photos, put the memory card in the card reader in my PC tower, couldn't get the PC to read the card. I then took a quick shot on a different card, and the PC read that card just fine. I looked up Help it was recommended to wipe the metal contacts with alcohol. Has anyone used this remedy? Do you suggest a different remedy? I'm pretty sure the card in question is the one I bought with the K10D last June of 2007. It's a Lexar Professional SD 2gig 133x speed. (As is the 2nd card I used.) I never connect camera to computer, I always use a card reader, and I've had exactly the same amount of reliable operation with all of them. Once in a great while, the reader will fail to recognize a card. Usually just unplugging and plugging the reader back into the computer, forcing its drivers to reload, solves any such problem. It happens with all cards now and then ... just happened for the first time in months with a CF card ten minutes ago. RE: A bit of knowledge about LightRoom
Thanks Boris it his useful indeed. Best regards, Manuel -Mensagem original- De: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Em nome de Boris Liberman Enviada: domingo, 20 de Abril de 2008 18:02 Para: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Assunto: A bit of knowledge about LightRoom Hi! LightRoom (starting from 1.3 as it seems) uses ACR Cache directory for its, well, cache. Those of us who don't have Photoshop CS3 are in fact unable to change the settings of this cache directory easily. Here is what I found (Windows XP): 1. The cache itself is in: C:\Documents and Settings\your acct name\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Cache by default. 2. You can delete the files from there as you see fit. Though of course it is better if LR is not running when you do so. 3. There is a file called index.dat in this directory. If you make this file read-only, you will effectively disable the caching all together. 4. However you can do better than this. You can add the following two lines to the file: C:\Documents and Settings\your acct name\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Defaults\Preferences.xmp: crs:NegativeCachePathD:/_CACHE/ACR Cache/crs:NegativeCachePath crs:NegativeCacheMaximumSize20.0/crs:NegativeCacheMaximumSize You have to place these lines before this one: /rdf:Description Notice the slash direction. The size of the cache is in GB's. The information has been taken from here: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?14@@.3c055fdb/0 I hope it will prove useful at least to some of you. Cheers! RE: Pulitzer
P. J. By more and more present I meant exactly that. I am an oncology product sales rep and I spend my days in oncology related hospitals. In spite of more earlier detection of cancer pathologies what I see is more young patients doing chemotherapy. The outcome, I don't know in the vast majority of cases, but I am confident that the early detection associated to better chemotherapy and support care, can produce what we desire, the cure. But that does not alter what I whiteness every day, and the pain, and the courage. Best regards, Manuel -Mensagem original- De: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Em nome de P. J. From the 1840's, when good record keeping became a general to about 1910 statistics show that young women were very vulnerable to typhus, cholera, child birth, small pox it was truly horrible, popular songs reflected just that, Listen to the Mocking Bird, which was adopted by the 3 Stooges, actually find the words and read them. . There was a culture of death or rather dealing with death throughout the Victorian Age. If you go to any relatively old cemetery you should count the headstones of you woman who died in their late teens to early thirties. The numbers are sometimes astounding. We should mourn the loss of this young woman, but be very thankful it happens so much less frequently today. Manuel Magalhães wrote: Thanks for posting this.
