I run Photo Tools, which is a grab-bag app for a bunch of photography-related things like metering, exposure calculator, DoF calculator and other bits. That's the only photo app on my Samsung Galaxy S other than Photoshop Express. -Adam On Tue, May 10, 2011 at 12:01 PM, Boris Liberman wrote: > On 5/9/2011 23:49, Larry Colen wrote: >> >> The camera on my first gen moto droid is so full of suckage that it's >> moot. > > Mark! > > Also I must say that the word "suckage" is new to me... Re: Android Camera Apps Suggestions
I must confess I have neither an android nor an Iphone. I have a cell phone that doesn't take photos, send or receive text messages or browse the internet ... all it does is let me make telephone calls. I run it The Photographers Ephemeris on my laptop. But, the person who introduced me to the program had in on one of those phones (although, I suspect his was an iphone because he was always cussing at it because he couldn't get service, so he must have been on AT&T ...) I just googled for "The Photographers Ephemeris for Android" and it appears there is a version of it available. Or at least one of those "App Site" websites said you could buy a version for the Android from them. From: "Peter Loveday" Huh, where did you get this - there's an Android version actually released? -Original Message- From: John Sessoms Sent: Tuesday, May 10, 2011 5:59 AM To: pdml@pdml.net Subject: Re: Android Camera Apps Suggestions The Photographer's Ephemeris -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Android Camera Apps Suggestions
The camera on my first gen moto droid is so full of suckage that it's moot. I mostly use my camera to geotag locations when I'm shooting with my other camera. I upload them to flickr then can drag my other photos to that location. The other thing I use my camera for is when I'm doing shopping cart engineering at the hardware store and want to note products and prices for later reference. By the way, shop savvy can be extremely handy when at a store that does pricematching. There has got to be a handy thread/forum for "must have" android apps, because the question comes up every time someone buys one. If you're looking to program apps yourself, ping me offlist, setting up the dev environment is a pain. Let's just say that eclipse isn't the worst of it. It's not as full-featured, but it's worth a look. There's also a Photoshop app that allows for some basic image manipulation. I'm not terribly familiar with HTC's offerings, but Android in general seems to, or at least used to (I'm on 2.1), suffer from a lack of file browser. ES File Explorer and ES Task Manager are musts. If you do the social networking thing, Tweetdeck is nice way to integrate them all into one app. Facebook's official app is a resource hog, Twidroyd isn't too terribly bad and the official Foursquare app is actually pretty good these days. If you Geocache you absolutely must, without a doubt, install c:geo. One developer, on his own time, has built this application that not only beat the official app to market, but it's still better. Plus, the Geocaching overlords are so hell bent on killing it that you're not even allowed to write "c:geo" in their forums without suffering the wrath of the, dundundaah, forum moderators. I use MyTracks to log my bike rides. Christie gave me a fancy, highfalutin GPS device for Christmas, but the phone is with me anyway, so that's what I generally use. A couple others that have come in handy from time to time: Apps Installer for installing packages you didn't get from the Market, Barcode Scanner (you really need this), Quick Settings, and Overbite for Android. I'm not sure how anyone can live without Overbite. It isn't in the Market, but you can get it here: http://gopher.floodgap.com/overbite/d?android As far as I know, every app I've mentioned is free (as in beer). -- Scott Loveless http://www.twosixteen.com/fivetoedsloth/ __o _'\<,_ (*)/ (*) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Miserere, I don't have any photo apps on my phone, but these ones I use: 1. CoolReader - for e-Reading 2. Blik Calendar Widget - for calendar 3. AnySoft Keyboard for Heb/Eng/Russian done most conveniently 4. aCar - for tracking my car's expenses 5. AppFolders - for organizing the apps in the convenient way 6. Dolphin browser - for browsing 7. Dropbox - for file exchange 8. Engadget - for fun 9. EStrong File Explorer - as the name has it - file explorer 10. Quick profiles - for switching WiFi and BT the way that is convenient for me 11. Quick system Info Pro - for app killer and general manager 12. SuperDial - for alphabetic dialing Please notice that mine is "ancient" Android 1.5 Cupcake cell phone so that it is likely that some of the functions that I have from 3rd party apps very well may be built-in to your phone. YMMV. Boris -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I'll be curious to read this. I'm planning on switching from my Storm in August and I'm still trying to decide which phone. iPhone vs. Android, of course, but then the problem is which Android. I'm torn between small and portable and larger and readable. I'd also like to find out which has the best camera. My Android photo apps are: Photographic light meter by Tom Reay Does light metering and depth of field calculation. Sunrise by Ixonos Kosie Gives the time to sun rise or sun set in your present location. It's useful for timing when you want to be sure you get to a location with the lighting just right - particularly when travelling. I did find a studio lighting design app,but I didn't use it and needed the room on the phone (I have a lot of apps). Android Camera Apps Suggestions
Hi All, 'Twas a glorious day on Friday when I finally got rid of my BlackBerry Storm and took charge of a HTC Incredible 2 working under Android. Now THIS is what a smartphone was meant to be. Amongst other goodies, the phone has a stupid 8MP camera; but I'm not complaining because unlike my BB camera, at least I can select ISO on this one. I know a few of you have Android powered phones and was wondering if there are any camera apps that you could recommend. Everyone talks about the cool iPhone camera apps, but I never hear anything about Android ones. Let me hear it; what camera/photography apps are you using and why would you recommend them. And if there are any non-photography apps that you think are useful, by all means veer this topic OT and let me know about them.
