Did some testing too after the discussion. I couldn't see any advantage to the many step approach - except the adition of artifacts (or maybe this is the whole advantage - if you can mistake them as being details). Leon Altoff wrote: I tried this with Photoshop CS and I have to say I prefer the single step enlarged image to the many step enlarged image. The many step images were showing artifacts where the single step was smooth - for people I prefer the bicubic smoother image to the bicubic sharper. I ended up with 5 154meg images in Photoshop at the same time. I'm going to buy more memory before I do it again.

Just use Genuine Fractals trial version, good up to 20 images (then it stops). For really big prints (and even upsizing to e.g. 400 dpi Noritsu prints at 30x40cm), it works better than just plain bicubic. Or at least use Lanczos interpolation (in freeware IrfanView), it's quite better than just bicubic as well. fra

I have been receiving back a few orders this week. I was very apprehensive when I had three separate brides all order 20x30 inch prints from me, and was really worried about the results. Well, tv talked me through the resizing process, and I am happy to say that these are quite possibly the best prints I have ever produced. Clients ecstatic, photographer impressed, what more is there to say? I love this camera, despite its faults. It is going great guns for me! Who would've thought? 20x30 inch, 300 dpi prints from a 6.1mp camera?!?! Larger sensor, schmensor!! Now the only thing that means to me is more space taken up on my HDD! 6.1mp will do me just fine... I thought it was cute, looked at it several times, determined I didn't know what to think about it, or DO about it, so I put it on my desktop. A couple of weeks later I opened it up again, and it did the same thing it did before, inexplicably expand to an ever larger object, always with sharp edges. Since I couldn't figure any use for it, nor was there an education to be derived from it *on my own*, I dumped it. I do that when I have something without an owner's manual, and I can't figure it out for myself. Well, the lesson was that you can print it as large and sharp as you want, but it won't have more real information than 4 pixels could have. *blush* Thanks Dave! That is so cute, but remember, you guys have never seen just how much crap I also throw away! Well, tv has, but he insists that it is normal... A few of you have asked about the resizing/interpolation process that I've been using. It couldn't be more simple or easy. Just takes a bit of time, is all. I use PS CS, and just resize an inch at a time. Yeah, it takes like 12 steps to get from 8x12 to 20x30, and also a couple of marginal crops along the way, but in the end the result is worth it and it is just basic to do. I just use the cropping tool, set at 300 dpi, and upsize the dimensions by one inch each time... Easy peasy lemon squeezy... This is *me* we are talking 'bout here, so obviously it wouldn't be anything that is overly hard, or technical, or that requires any actual KNOWLEDGE of what one is doing. ;-) And the credit of me discovering how to do it *this* way, has to go to tv anyways, as he was the one who told me what to do! tan. Here's a link to a PS Plug-In that does incremental re-sizing just like this. You can specify the number of steps or the percentage of increase with each increment. Works with PS and PS Elements. http://www.imphotography.com/downloads/ssimagesize.htm Paul - Original Message - From: Tanya Mayer Photography [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, September 14, 2004 4:56 PM Subject: RE: BG prints - *istD style *blush* Thanks Dave!
