Re: Canon Pixma Pro 100
Yes, Epson does recommend turning the printer off with the power switch. I've found that in the absence of image printing, if you print the nozzle check pattern once a week it keeps the heads from clogging while using very little ink. -p On 11/3/2016 2:48 PM, Ken Waller wrote: With Epson's I've been told to always turn them off by the machines on/off switch. The review on imaging resource is looking pretty bad really. I think this printer is a lot better than what they present. I don't really know what settings they were using, but when you run your images through their plugin it seems to do a very good job with color using the stock profiles. The black and white I printed on canon paper seemed fairly neutral when I looked at it in direct sunlight. I actually print things for a living and have used large format canons for some time and always highly recommend them. I would do the same for this printer. Just know that ink costs are up on this model but a full set is only $109 for 8 carts. Not bad really. Individuals are $16.99 I think, up from the $13 the older ones were. You can probably get about 30-40 13x19s before you start swapping ink carts and of course your mileage may vary. Obviously B&W prints will kill the three black carts pretty fast. One full size print didn't dent the first cartridge set, but a black and white definitely moved the on screen indicators a bit. I prints up to 13x19 which is pretty decent really. I love 11x17 so this is perfect for a lot of things. Borderless 13x19 looks fantastic though you do give up some image along the sides. You can buy 13x19 frames too. It also prints CDs which is interesting. If you are considering a printer I would definitely look at this. It has pretty much all the features and quality that the Pixma Pro 1 had and that cost $1000 new. The heads are easily replaceable on this printer as well. I think the epsons are still not user serviceable. One advantage that the smaller epsons have is that they print rolls as well. I think up to 20" wide right? so that gives the ability to print a bit bigger. Still I'm very happy with this and this is a lot nicer than the old 9500 mark 2 I used to use. Much better print quality with much more accurate color. If you are someone that can sell a lot of small prints this is a good printer to have around. I'm really hoping that they move to adding RGB colors like their larger printers have eventually. That would give them a huge color gamut. Still for 8 colors this thing does really, really well. Just know that its best to leave them on all the time so that they self clean which doesn't use much ink in the long run. Otherwise you have to use a lot more ink trying to purge and test print. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- -bmw -- Being old doesn't seem so old now that I'm old. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Side note you *can* set a timer where it will turn off after a period of time. I think it still wakes itself up to do cleanings though. I set this and it has never turned off, but after reading a bit it seems the automatic shutoff doesn't work when you use the printer wirelessly. Oh yeah, it does wireless printing. Kind of nice. I just leave it on. I would imagine its power draw in standby is pretty low. Canon mentioned it having a deep sleep mode that it sinks into. I would easily print at least once a week and hopefully even more. So I think this will be a decent fit. I think it self cleans maybe once or twice a week. It doesn't seem to use hardly any ink for self cleanings. I know for experience with the 9500 that if you initiate a purge it goes through a lot more ink than a self clean. I've only had on turned on for a week now and I've noticed one self clean after a print I made yesterday. Though it might have done so when I was sleeping or not at home as well. Re: Canon Pixma Pro 100
I could be wrong but they might have just the black inks together as a discount Bruce. If you buy one of these new look for a deal that includes an extra set of ink. It does come with a full set in the box despite the tanks being labelled setup. The initial ink charge didn't seem to use any ink so they must have a little extra in them. Re: Canon Pixma Pro 100
Yes sorry for the delay in response. Canon has been using dye inks for some time and claim 100 years of archival life. They think the real number is closer to 300 years. I imagine you will be dead long before they start to fade. You can purchase individual ink carts at 16.99 I think. USD. I've used the older 9500 mk2 quite a bit and I think the colors are way better off of this printer. On Nov 3, 2016 1:49 PM, "Bruce Walker" wrote: > Thanks for that write-up, Zos. Thanks for that write-up, Zos. Great info. Can the black ink sets be purchased separately? Pigment inks are generally considered archival. Are dye inks? (I guess that's Paul's question rephrased.) Sounds like you're lovin' it. Great deal for $100. How is print longevity with the dye inks? -p On Nov 2, 2016, 7:24 PM -0500, Zos Xavius , wrote: > I ended up stealing one of these for $100. Canon Pixma Pro 100
I ended up stealing one of these for $100. They retail for $400 currently. I also snagged 50 sheets of 13x19 canon satin paper in the mix. I've done a few test prints now and I am very impressed. Unlike the Epson and older Canon printers this one uses dye ink and man is it vivid. If you want to print stuff that looks like slide film this is the printer for you. I haven't tried any skin tones yet, so I'll maybe follow up this post when I print a few portraits from it.
