No pics to show yet. Theiy're in the camera, and I'm going to bed. But this
device delivers more than one might expect. With the cover in place and a
ceiling of ten feet or so, it gives you about 50/50 light, nicely diffused.
With a ceiling of about 15 feet and the cover removed, it gives you about
50/50 light. There's a tungsten filter attachment for use with tungsten
ambient light and a mirror reflector for really high ceiling, long distance
situations. And if you flip the flash head down and shoot through the cover,
it's essentially a soft box attachment.

I'll post a few pics tomorrow.

 Paul

Thanks you for the report. How about a follow up, when you have really
got to know it?
How does it compare to the 80-20? Better, worse or different?

Re: Fong Lightsphere Day One

2008-06-15 Thread pnstenquist
Different and better in many ways. It spreads the ight more than the lumiquest
80/20 in its most diffuse mode, which is with the cap in place and pointing at
the ceiling. And it's capable of more power when shooting through the cap as
though it were a softbox than the 80/20 woud be with a soid reflector in place.
And it has more modes in that you can also point it at the ceiling with the cap
off, which makes it about a 50/50. So far, I like it enough that I've duct
taped it to my flash:-). It is easy to knock it off when it's just slipped over
the end. (I can still shoot with bare flash just by taking the cap off and
aiming the flash straight ahead.) I will post some pics, but I've been real
busy.

He has two basic models that I'm aware of, and a range of accessories. I
purchased the clear Lightsphere. The cloud version is more diffusing, but all
the wedding photogs I've talked to use the clear version. I'm going to add the
chrome diffusion cap, which adds another more direct option. It's an obvious
idea, but it seems to work rather well. I have a couple weddings that I've
agreed to shoot later this summer, so I'm practicing:-).

The Gary Fong light sphere is excellent. I've had the Lumiquest soft box,
and the Gary Fong is way better. Its much easier to pack (its soft so you
just squish it up, makes it more durable too) and helps for bounce flash
as well as direct. I'd give him my money again.

This is one of the hardest regular production lenses to get a hold of,
not just in Pentax, but of any Japanese brand. It is infamous for its razor
sharp images and wonderful bokeh. Lens is in great shape, glass is perfect
with a few marks on the barrel. KEH would rate this as a VG+ lens (and we
all know how conservative they are!). These suckers always go for more than
$1100 on ebay, and if I don't get any nibbles, that is where this one is
going. Asking $975 plus shipping, will ship worldwide using UPS ONLY! I
accept Paypal, MO, or personal checks. Feel free to use Bidpay, but beware,
I will only ship once I get the MO in my hands... Check my ebay feedback

Thanx to FONG poster!/flash damaged in transit/UPS, here we go again!

2002-06-24 Thread Pat White

A few months ago, someone posted a P67 outfit and studio lighting set they'd seen on a
newsgroup. I followed it up, and now I'm the proud owner of two 650 watt-second
Courtenay flashes, along with two softboxes, two stands (one heavy-duty, with wheels),
a boom stand w/counterweight, plus a couple of reflectors, and the necessary cables,
all for $600Cdn! Plus $150Cdn for shipping from Toronto, as it came in three heavy
boxes.

That's the good part. The bad part was that one of the flashes got damaged in
transit, by UPS, and the repair bill was $345Cdn. The packages arrived around April
25th, and as soon as I realized one flash wouldn't flash, I contacted the seller, who
started a claim with UPS. Well! First they wanted a repair estimate, then to see it
re-packed, so they could be sure it had been packed properly. It was in a computer
monitor box, with a double layer of bubble-wrap and about a bushel of foam peanuts.
They took a week to return it, then I took it back to the repair shop.

Then came the hand-off to UPS's insurance company, who found more stalling tactics,
like asking for more copies of all the paperwork, which had to come from the seller.
Luckily, he was very helpful and co-operative. Each stall took a week or two, so only
today, June 24th, was I able to pick up the repaired flash. It took two months to get
the unit fixed! As I mentioned in a previous posting, UPS=bad news.

I'm looking for a nice used Pentax LX, I'd prefer not to have to send it off
for a CLA or repairs right away. Are there any indicators I should look for
to get a well model that won't develop any problems in the near future?
