Re: Fw: GESO - Monuments and Memorials, Washington DC
Thanks, Boris. The IR effect tends to make things look otherworldly, I suppose because the image is form from light outside the visible spectrum and it is different form what we see but similar enough to create an eerie sensation. Since IR is actually photographing heat and not visible light, I figured it would be ideal for Washington where there is usually more heat than light anyhow... Camera of choice was an IR converted K-10d. The weather did not cooperate much. I had a day to myself while my wife was in a conference, and I used it to walk around the mall. A clear and sunny morning devolved into a cloudy day with cold misty rain. I took some shots of the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. The final images were so flat I 'hand painted' them in photo shop to give them a little life. Sloppy work on the hand painting if I say so myself. Washington Monument: http://www.calarti.com/peso/m&m/1-IMGP1083_tu1.jpg Lincoln Memorial: http://www.calarti.com/peso/m&m/3-IMGP0886.jpg The US Capitol was way back lit in the early morning when the skies were clear. I took gobs of shots and bracketed like mad, thinking I should find some HDR software and try to do something useful with the images.
