Why turn this guy into a mystery?
He is just another sociopat with internet connection. There is plenty

Re: I had nothing better to do this morning...

2012-05-31 Thread P. J. Alling
I really didn't think I was making him into a mystery. He has a big
enough following, and was called RiceWhine by enough people that I was
sure a google search would easily clear up any mystery and I wouldn't
have to directly drive up his hit count.

Now lets get this straight. I have a lot of crappy opinions, which I'm
not afraid to share. Often off the cuff with no thought behind them,
though some of the crappier opinions in some people's estamation,
actually have a lot of thought behind them, I don't however feel that my
drivel deserves a website and I'd be embarrassed if I attracted a
following that hung on my every word. Geez get a life people.

Once again, I wasn't trying to make the guy a mystery. I thought that
everyone here, having actually found this place on the internet, it
being more virtual than most, would have run into RiceH*** self
described measurebater, and self described Pentax fan, and known he has
called RiceWhine quite a lot four or so years ago. Unlike Kennyboy's
nickname I can't claim to have made that one up.

Well, I'm not among his fans, but will observe that (1) RiceWhine waits until
he has a camera in hand before reviewing it, and (2) he is willing--even
eager--to criticize Pentax, while Kennyboy thinks Nikon can do no wrong.

2012-05-30 Thread P. J. Alling
RiceWhine isn't a Pentax Fan, he's just the opposite. Even his
favorable reviews are full of snark.

More importantly his math sucks. His methods are shoddy, his
conclusions are suspect, and I suspect that his mother dresses him funny.

For example his conversion of a Pentax 40mm f2.8 to a Canon FF camera.
He used the latest, and most expensive, 40mm, (with cosmetics to
complement the K-01), and extolled it's virtues. Crap, the sample
pictures were awful. That design was always soft in the corners on
24x36mm format. He would have gotten better results if he'd bought a
used a M 40mm since it's pretty much the same optical formula, and
would have maintained full aperture capability. His experiment proved
nothing except his own shallowness, and lack of historical perspective.
The fact that the 40mm lens on a Canon camera looked particularly stupid
is beside the point.

I've been using Pentax since 1974. Sometimes Pentax decisions infuriate
me, sometimes mystify me. Criticizing Pentax is one of the things I do
best. I still find it annoying that Pentax dropped support for the
mechanical meter coupling on previous lenses. Even Nikon still allows
that on the upper tier cameras.

Like Kennyboy, RiceWhine is a pseudonym I use to keep from generating
traffic for someone I disapprove of. The actual name is Rice and a
synonym for being stoned. While claiming to be a Pentax user he seems
to know a lot more about the Canon camera line, it's been suggested he's
a plant, but why Canon would care enough to do that I have no idea.

Oddly enough, if you Google RiceWhine, all you get are a bunch of
cooking links for Sake.

Kennyboy doesn't work either. The closest I got was Ken Lay from Enron
... drawn a blank on kennyboy's last name.

But here's a thought. I notice there's supposed to be an announcement on
June 1 according to http://sensacionespentax.blogspot.com/

I wondered if they were going to finally announce the K-3 in whatever
form, but if you click on the www.pentax.es link, it takes you to a
Cashback_k5_12_Redes-Pre+[1600x1200].jpg, so I'm guessing they're
going to announce a rebate.

Wonder if it will be available in the U.S.?
