Re: Me and my 250-600 (now nothing to do with filing cabinets)
Sigh.. that brings back bad memories for me.. The day I had to contemplate switching to c***n.. I've never been able to face a giraffe since.. http://home.iprimus.com.au/heygoose/africa.jpg Cheers, Ryan - Original Message - From: John Francis [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, July 14, 2004 2:36 PM Subject: Me and my 250-600 (now nothing to do with filing cabinets) --- Jostein [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: John Francis [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.panix.com/~johnf/gallery/images/sdwap615.jpg LOL! Other images from that trip (most taken with the 250-600) can be found here: http://www.panix.com/~johnf/gallery/sdwap.html There are two shots there not taken with a Pentax camera, but with a Nikon point-and-shoot (35mm, not digital). One, obviously, is the shot of me holding my camera. Would anyone care to guess which the other one is?

This giraffe look somewhat familiar...:-) http://www.panix.com/~johnf/gallery/images/sdwap414.jpg That was my first thought also, not only because of the subject but because it has quite high DOF. But, looking at the original, 414 does not have as much DOF so I am not sure. There is nothing else that seems to have the same characteristics as 615. Only 115 comes close and there is very little background further away than a few yards to make a judgement. I must be a Neanderthal. mike reading this on the archives, so I don't know the answer yet. Hi! There are two shots there not taken with a Pentax camera, but with a Nikon point-and-shoot (35mm, not digital). One, obviously, is the shot of me holding my camera. Would anyone care to guess which the other one is? Is it monopod or tripod? And what is the total weight of this THING? The sort of stuff I do doesn't lend itself to using a tripod, so I generally only use a monopod with this lens. It weighs around 12lb (5.5kg), before you add a camera. With a camera, battery grip, protective filter and a monopod you'd be looking at around 15lbs (7Kg) to carry around. Add a second body with a flash and the 80-200 and that makes over 20lb of camera equipment. Carrying that lot up and down steep hillsides in the hot California sun is quite tiring. I really wonder what the giraffe is thinking looking at your camera and the lens... g Boris
