Still trying to find a watermark I like more than hate. But honestly, that
watermark is designed to be annoying as a theft deterrent. Because of the
freakin' huge audience of my About.com work the volume of thefts of my
photos has hit an epidemic stage so I try little things like the watermark
to make my non-About.com licensed images less attractive for casual thieves.

There are weeks I don't even check my Fairshare (and other theft checking)
accounts because I just can't take another 4 pages of thefts listed out on
each one.

New here (plus a PESO)

2010-12-28 Thread Elizabeth Masoner
Thanks for the warm welcome all!

I'm actually not in New York, that's just where About.com is headquartered.
I'm in central Alabama. There are about 800 different sites within the
About.com group and we work from all over the world thanks to the wonder of
the Internet. I like it because for all its faults, its one paycheck I
don't have to send repeat invoices to get.

The photo was taken at Lat 33.16002 and Long -86.5608. No clue who owns
that property but the drive let me get close to the tree without getting
stuck in the mush. That was the first time in better than 50 years it had
snowed on Christmas there. And that was pretty much half a day of flurries
but no more than 1/2 inch accumulation on leaves and such.

Cormorants I can shoot. Just have to get out to the dam or run down to the
Air Force base community pond in Montgomery to find them. :)

I'll try to remember to post a larger pick somewhere for next PESO.

I figured out PESO only because I searched the archives until I found an
explanation of the acronyms, thanks for the link.

I'm sure you'll find this a good place to be. We not only talk about

I look forward to poking my nose into discussions and seeing everyone else¹s

Subject: New here (plus a PESO)

Thanks for the warm welcome all!

I'm actually not in New York, that's just where About.com is
headquartered.
I'm in central Alabama. There are about 800 different sites within
the About.com group and we work from all over the world thanks to the
wonder of the Internet. I like it because for all its faults, its one
paycheck I don't have to send repeat invoices to get.

The photo was taken at Lat 33.16002 and Long -86.5608. No clue who
owns that property but the drive let me get close to the tree without
getting stuck in the mush. That was the first time in better than 50
years it had snowed on Christmas there. And that was pretty much half
a day of flurries but no more than 1/2 inch accumulation on leaves and
such.

Cormorants I can shoot. Just have to get out to the dam or run down
to the Air Force base community pond in Montgomery to find them. :)

I'll try to remember to post a larger pick somewhere for next PESO.

I figured out PESO only because I searched the archives until I found
an explanation of the acronyms, thanks for the link.

 ~Liz

New here (plus a PESO)

2010-12-27 Thread Elizabeth Masoner
Ok, I¹ll dive right in. Found this list through a FB posting from Pentax.

Among other photography work I write the About.com photography site.
(http://photography.about.com) I¹ve been looking for a forum/list where I
can be ³just another photographer² rather than the teacher/leader and from
what I¹ve read the last few days I¹m hoping this will be the place for me.
I look forward to poking my nose into discussions and seeing everyone else¹s
work.

For a first PESO this is one I shot on Christmas. Far from technically
perfect but I love it anyway. Admittedly I have a morbid sense of humor
though. http://lizmasoner.wordpress.com/2010/12/25/found-subjects/

Welcome, Liz - we need some more chick power :-)

I was relieved to see the vultures in the tree, don't find them morbid
in the least -- for a moment I feared

road kill or something a bit gory. Phew!

I would have liked to have seen the photo somewhat larger (my eyes
suck) and also wondered where you took the shot.

and another New Yorker is good to have as well!

We digress now and then (maybe more than that ) and if you don't like
puns... well, you'll be skipping a lot of posts - hehe

Hi Liz - welcome.

Excellent first PESO - well composed with a sombre mood. I'm not a fan

By the way, if you find the acronyms used on the list a bit of a
mystery, there is an FAQ of sorts. You've obviously worked out what
PESO means but there are some others. More here:
