Re: OT: Coronavirus: Sophie Raworth's deserted London - BBC News

2020-04-05 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
I've had some bicycle parts on order from a supplier in China (carbon rims for
the new bike) since before COVID-19 became the only thing anyone discusses.
They're finally in the USA now. My friend there told me that their usual
premium shipping service was being restricted from any deliveries to the USA;
the only way they could ship was via DHL or FedEx out of Hong Kong, and even
that required both a double shunt there from the factory and then a wait for a
flight to be shipped on because *all* commercial cargo transports are down
85-90% at the present time.

Quite a different world since three-four short weeks ago!

No ride here for the past two days, and today, because of the on again/off
again weather, but I did get out for walks on both days (and will again today).
Everyone's expecting the big bump in the plague infections/deaths this week:
streets are becoming pretty deserted even for walks.

I did take the Leica with the 10mm lens on it out with me yesterday. I've got a
few exposures that I may post.

2020-04-05 Thread Steve Cottrell
My son Stefan cycled from his home in Clapham Common up to Battersea Park and
back for some exercise on the Brompton. There were quite a few people out and
about walking, some sat in the parks and the police were moving them on. Stef
got moved on a couple of times.

That’s extraordinary really. I cycled up to Kew Bridge and back today and
normally when I’m there all you can here is aeroplanes approaching or leaving
Heathrow. Today i didn’t remark on their absence, but I was cycling with my
hearing aids in, which i don’t usually do, and all I could hear was the
unaccustomed racket made by delivery scooters as they approach.

Yesterday, about 19:00 GMT, there were 12 aeroplanes in GB airspace and four of
those were in transit from Yurp to the US. The only thing flying in Norge was
an air ambulance helicopter..
