When the Range Rover was 25 years old, I took part in a procession from
Solihull to the Gaydon motor museum, in a 25 vehicle convoy - one for
every year of the marque (mine was 1975 vintage, a shortened racer
called 'Katy') and it was a brilliant day. Photos of all participants
and vehicles were taken and stored in the national motoring archive

Seriously, the lens is so frigging expensive that I could not buy the 
wimberley or kirk head just yet.  I might try out the sidekick which I 
hear is good for the 500mm and is half the cost of the gimbal heads.

I have the Kirk King Cobra  have no issue with it.
Check out a recent addition  - the Jobo. Looks simple  I believe is less 
costly that the full blown Wimberly  Kirk.

Now what about the tripod you'll be using.

It's the birthday of inventor and manufacturer George Eastman

(1854). He began to study photography in 1877 while working at a bank, 
and the following year, with a camera he invented, he took his first 
dry-plate photograph, of a view of the Charles P. Ham building across
