It’s a blood sport and like all blood sports there will be cheaters skewing
the results. The problem arises when you get people who don’t understand
that the game ends after the votes are counted winning elections. These
people may win at the polls, but they are not leaders.

It's full of amusing little ironies. As I mentioned to someone the other day, 
we have the Brexit side dismissing the economic warnings of the Remain side as 
'Project Fear' while at the same time, and with no hint of irony or 
self-awareness, threatening right-wing violence and civil disruption if they 
don't get their way, claiming all the while that it would be undemocratic to 
allow people to vote. Hmm.
