In fact, I'm irreligious. Atheistic agnostic, to be exact. I'm
certain that there's no God or gods, but since I can't prove a
negative, I'm agnostic.

I do find many religions to be offensive (~not~ Judaism, BTW), and
that includes many so-called mainstream ones.

However I respect those individuals whose beliefs are different from
mine even if I don't respect the beliefs. I also understand the
importance of culture and rites (including holidays).

No matter how I feel about religion in general, I try to be respectful
and sensitive toward all ~people~, despite their world-view. Given
the nature of this list, represented by cultures and religions from

except sleeping off a hangover then watching football.

I sent my initial greeting assuming that everyone (Jewish and gentile)

Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur are the Jewish High Holidays. Since they have not
been commercialized like Christmas and Easter, they have the level of religious
significance of those holidays without any of the distractions. It is a time
to reflect on the events of the past year, atone for your sins, both with god
and your fellow man, and for many jews, the only time that they go to temple.

I am quite certain that Mark didn't mean offense by his play on words,

Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur are the Jewish High Holidays.

That probably should have been written High Holy Days, as in the vernacular
the above implies more high and less holy, which would be Purim.
