Now I know for sure where it was I saw the photos that made me apprehensive
about hiking up Grandfather Mountain. Glad I gave it a try anyway.

Thanks, Ann. I didn’t even notice that “bit of something.” Thanks for calling
it to my attention. I usually crop to get rid of things like that, but I’m not
sure I can do that with this image, and I’d rather not anyway. I suspect
there’s another way, something I haven’t tried. Do you have a suggestion?

BTW, all those images were shot with my iPhone. Viewing them on the phone, I
was disappointed. When I got em into Lightroom, I was impressed. Turns out when
viewing RAW images the phone the Apple Photos app shows the preview, not the
actual image. The apparent depth of field surprises me. At least most images
sharp throughout the distance from the lens. My main disappointment with the
phone as camera is the extreme wide angle of the lens. The web tells me it’s a
30 mm-ish equivalent focal length. Even when shooting landscapes there are
times I’d like a narrower field of view.

And what is the name of that app?

On another note

2017-10-17 Thread Eric Weir

I’m a little over a week back from a month spent camping and hiking along the
Blue Ridge Parkway, from the north end to the South. What a beautiful place.
Beautiful, I would say, because the designers and builders took their cue from
the landscape. Once a week or so I’d go off the Parkway, get a motel room, take
a shower, and do laundry. With few exceptions the contrasting ugliness of big
box and franchise restaurant development that I experienced made me want to get
back to the Parkway ASAP.

In preparing for the trip I purchased a 52.8 ah battery that I could charge
with my car and then use to keep my devices charged. Unfortunately, the usb
chargers I purchased to keep my camera batteries charged did not work. The last
1/2 to 2/3 of the trip I had to rely on my iPhone for photography. I use an app
that lets me manually control settings and record images in RAW. I’ve been
impressed with the results since getting the images into Lightroom.

I haven’t put up a Flickr album yet, but I’ve been showing this image to
friends pretty
often.
