No, he's sliding along the rail, but usually (and more easily) riders will use
the axle pegs on the same side of the bike (ie., either both left side or both
right side). That makes mounting and dismounting the rail much easier.

If you look carefully at Mike's wheels his front wheel is to the left of the
rail, the back wheel is to the right. That means he has to lift his front wheel
high up over the rail as he mounts, which adds difficulty to the manoeuvre.

I have a photo of him mounting that I'll process and post tomorrow; it will
probably explain it better than I can. Picture being worth a thousand... ;-)

Re: PESO - Mike

2013-08-07 Thread knarftheria...@gmail.com
It's a fun place. I think some of the kids there are a bit wary of cameras but
the bmx guys are used to me and they like some of my photos so they're
comfortable with me and my camera.

Still want to catch Mike upside down. One of these days.

;-)

Thanks for the comment and thanks to all who commented and looked.

Thanks, Bruce! I found skateboarders can be shy (meaning they get upset when
they see my camera) but when I saw Mike I thought my bikey-ness might get a
good icebreaker - which it was.

I got a few other good ones but nothing uber-spectacular. I hope to get up
there again.

It's at Birmingham and Eighth in New Toronto if you're ever in the area...

Thanks to everyone who looked and to those who commented.

Sharpness doesn't bother me. (Whiskers and eyes look good).
However, my years of color darkroom work (and the associated judgment
of color casts) make the color balance of the shot very objectionable.
It is so yellow that it appears to have been shot on a daylight film
under tungsten illumination.

It also appears to need to be rotated about 2 degrees
counter-clockwise to be level.

Otherwise a nice portrait of what can be a difficult subject (when
they want to be).
