How Ironic, you're constantly taking photos in the dark... :-)
You are right, the monitor I'm using right now is getting tired, and it
is no longer as bright as it used ot be. (I've been very lazy and have
to swap it out for the good one), and this is very dark. To actually
see what was happening in this photo I had to save a copy of this image
to my system and use irfanview to kick the Gamma up a couple of
notches. I had thought it was just me so I didn't comment on it.

Thanks for all the comments. This past year has been really busy at work and made it difficult to follow the list very closely, along with shooting. I've done some weddings and portraits during that time, but very little of shooting on my own. I was able to get in on the Adorama deal a week or so ago and so will have a new K20D for Christmas. The polarizer was set to show as much separation of cloud and sky as possible. I don't know if that would have an opposite effect on the plants, but I would guess that they would gain the same benefit. The first has too much going on, distracting, a snap to record you being there. The second is more interesting, but I believe a lower perspective, with the foreground stump 'competing' with the mittens would be a stronger image. However, taking your suggestion I placed a grid over Bruce's photo, measured and computed some angles, added parameters for various lighting effects, time of day, and, of course, latitude and longitude, and damned if you aren't close. The correct adjustment would be 11.76 degrees considering Pacific Standard Time. I was wrong. Bruce's photo can be improved measurably. On the Coxis Improvement Scale the improvement with your adjusted suggestion is 4.73% with an accuracy of +/- .05% Thanks Frank! Exercise! Sheesh, carry a bigger lens and a tripod, move to a Canon cannon, and you'll get plenty of exercise LOL I gotta say Bruce, whether or not I like any given image, you've sure got a good eye for spotting some scenes that would easily be overlooked by many, if not most, people. You can worry this particular photo all you want - burn down a highlight, fiddle with cropping, intensity, saturation it doesn't matter. It's just a great photo, in part because of its simplicity. Very, very nice, Bruce. The way the stems cross each other makes me imagine the flowers are dancing. My wildflower shots have been disappointing--I can't seem to get that wonderful defocused background--not to mention such a nice arrangement of the subject!
