With MY poor ol' eyes, I didn't even know there WAS a channel! So, I got out my flip-down magnifier glasses, and sure enough, I was dissolving whatever was in the foam, which kept coming off on the Q-tips! I've let it 'dry' overnight and will clean up and reassemble tomorrow. Actually, the foam strip seems to have survived my ministrations, in spite of inept intentions, and if it's still a little bouncy when daylight comes, I'll just reassemble the back on it! Mine are 7x, plastic, come with a case. It comes with clear instructions, and you can download some camera-specific instructions from his web site. I am not a handyman at all, but I could replace the light seals and the foam in the mirror chamber of my two MX bodies with no problems whatsoever. A kit is enough to change the light seals in at least 4 or 5 bodies, in my experience. What say ye? keith whaley I'm not 100% sure, Keith, as I don't currently own an MX. But the LX uses a glued in strip of rubber in that channel. Might be you are trying to dissolve that! In which case I'm sorry. Pentax learned from the Spotmatic, K1000 days. Of course, that never stopped them from using the same foam that turned to goo in the mirror box of all their cameras. I'm not down to the base metal of the back, but thought I'd stop and ask what mild solvent is recommended. This stuff acted like acetone or MEK! I checked the label three times, to be sure! The rest of the body is really perfect, but on the back there's some black stuff coming off, like I was dissolving paint!
