Perhaps it has more to do with the sensor than with the lens. Re: Photozone test of the DA*200/2.8
The lens shows great resolution and bokeh. In regard to the fringing, I'd like to see it compared to a lens that was designed for the smaller image circle, perhaps even the DA 50-200. While I haven't found a long lens that doesn't produce some fringe, it does seem to vary. I've noticed my A 400/5.6 is more prone to fringing than my DA 50-200. Perhaps because it's longer? I don't know. However, I think I'm going to want this lens. If you look at the full hi-res version of the shot they used as an example for the fringing, it's somewhat minimal and easy to fix with a selection and a color switch. Re: Photozone test of the DA*200/2.8
I have yet to find a lens that won't produce purple fringe when tree branches are shot against a white sky. I think it's a sensor thing. Thats a pretty extreme torture test of the system, not just the lens. It's not something one is likely to run into every picture. That sky is completely blown out, amd the branches are out of range as well. It looks good overall, though how it compares to 200/2.8 lenses from the other guys, I haven't a clue. That it is a full frame lens bodes well for those who dream in technicolour. Re: Photozone test of the DA*200/2.8
Interesting to see whether the DA*300 is better. As I'm thinking of selling my FA300mm, I have a perverse interest in a poor review from Klaus!! Incidentally how many people use a telephoto for the pupose of photographing tree branches against the sky. Secondly what do they photograph instead when the leaves are out? Re: Photozone test of the DA*200/2.8
Since it appears to be a contrast thing, I would expect that a lens that manages to keep more contrast will have more fringing. I'm not saying that's a good thing but the lens capable of transmitting the higher contrast will appear sharper with certain subjects while the opposite will give less fringing in hight contrast situations. Now my optical analysis could be all wet. I only have anecdotal data... Paul Stenquist wrote: The lens shows great resolution and bokeh. Re: Photozone test of the DA*200/2.8
I take what Klaus says with a bolder of salt. His reviews of lenses I have are often at odds with my experience. He worships at the alter of newness while disparaging the old. The FA 20-35mm f4 is a case in point his conclusions dismiss it due to it's old design and lack of zoom range. He finds the SMC Pentax 135 f 2.5 to unworthy because it's not a new design, though by his own tests it gives superior results if you use it properly. He even occasionally misidentifies sensor bloom as CA. True, he's better than Ken Rockwell but then who isn't? Peter Fairweather wrote: Interesting to see whether the DA*300 is better.
