Little wonder project managers tend to go bald, it's from tearing out their
hair :D

Somebody important says Something must be done, so I make an arbitrary
decision to go live, because that's something, therefore it must be done,
and throw it over to the support team to sort out at their leisure.

At my last job we had a couple of sites that went through design by
committee. In one case the owner of our company was eager to impress the
client so he had to put his $0.02 in every other day, in addition to everyone
else. Designers just love being a human paintbrush to managers with no design
credentials. Better him than me, I thought. I nearly wet myself laughing when
the boss told him to start using the golden ratio, which he pretty much did
already.

You've also reminded me of another client who decided to go live so he had his
DNS switched over... when we weren't ready. He told us after he'd done it, of
course. I wish I'd had a support team to throw it over to.

I'd better stop here before I hit the liquor cabinet.

Cheers,
Dave

frustrating as it is, it's better than earning market rate and being
miserable making profits for the fatcats.

Hell, no. Ours starts in the pits and goes downhill from there.

We have 50 different and feuding people who get final say, then it has
to be signed off by someone who hates all of them and all of us. When
it's been signed off we circulate it to the different offices round the
globe who get to tell us which bits they don't want us to show, so we
have to translate their wishes into something that a computer can
understand, then get it all signed off again, which means put back the
way it was before the overseas offices made their contribution, which
was only meant to be a token gesture.

After that our principal donor will tell us why it doesn't adhere to
their standards since they changed them last without telling us, and if
we don't adhere to the standards they'll cut off our funding. So now it
has to go through the full internal review process again because it's a
major change, and an emergency change at that because go-live was
supposed to be in July, but the emergency change board are scattered
