Perhaps not much. All prvious Lumix cameras weren't expensive despite
using Leica lenses... Unfortunately there were considered as the ones with
poor picture quality - especially higher-end models performed poorly
compared to competition. Let's hope this new, interesting model will break
this bareer at Panasonic.

Hey Thanks Cotty!

Don't know how I got FZ instead of LC??

And I agree that until I hear about the viewfinder and focusing, as well as
other trivialities such as image quality and such, I'm not pulling out my
credit card...

Sure looks like good start, tho! Damn this is worse than trying to decide
when to buy a computer! Every two months there's a much better one just
about to come out. Gee that C*n*n S45 looks sweet, no wait until the S50 is
out (hey it's black!). Okay, but no wait the G5 is coming out with the
swivel LCD (and it's black too!). Okay, but no wait, look at that new S*n*
828 thing, and hey the *istD is coming out! Okay, but no wait...

Oy, to have such problems, eh?

I'm surprised that you put the *ist D in that mix?

Maybe I'm not the customer Pentax wants :-)

What sort of uniqueness do you see with this one, vs. any other on
 market right now?

Manual focus ring on the barrel (hopefully - a_realy_manual_focus ring),
aperture ring, shutter dial on the top plate, classic (familiar) design
(not the most important feature, but still :-)

Well, as you can imagine, they're going nuts about it over at LUG. I
haven't really been following the thread, but it seems that they don't know
much more about it than the links that we've seen. Besides, I've been away
all weekend, and I'm just catching up on a couple of days of e-mail
(naturally, I check PDML before LUG g).

What I do know is that it's a fixed lens camera. So, lovely as that lens
looks, that's the only one that you'll have on that camera. It's not M
mount or R mount.

Also, the Leica lenses that have been put on Panasonic digitals to date
aren't made in Germany, Canada, Portugal, or any other place that Leica has
a factory. They're designed by Leica, licensed to Panasonic, and who knows
who Panasonic gets to make them. Not that that's such a big deal, but if
you're paying big bucks for a Leica lens, maybe you want to know that sort
of stuff.

If I find out anything more over at LUG (like maybe price?), I'll let ya
know.

cheers,
frank

The previous thread posted by Thomas on this was slightly misleading. The
FZ1 is already out. This one is not:

There's another page with some pics:

 This looks interesting.

Very interesting, indeed. It seems it's the digicam I've been waiting for.
Pity I haven't started saving for it yet... :-)

Manual focus on the lens barrel. BUT the viewfinder has to be full-on,
not just an after thought as most non-SLR digicams are.

I do like that focus ring feature.
But, if it uses Leica lenses, it's likely to be an expensive kit...
Small matter, as I already have a 5+ Mp camera that suits just fine! g

Konica Hexar AF was Re: OT - Panasonic DMC-LC1

Basically a fixed lens motordrive AF Leica w/ brains. And if you get
one of the models with the silent mode, it truly is. The motor drive
and shutter are extremely quiet.

Works a lot like a mini-Fuji GA645xx if you'ver used one of those.

I shoot a lot of Delta 3200 or Tri-X in it.
