Re: PESO - March Snow

2014-03-14 Thread knarf
I'm sure that Upstate New York has much harsher winters than we do in Toronto.
Buffalo, to the south of us, certainly does, but that's due to lake-effect snow.

Toronto has had increasingly mild winters over the last couple of decades. I
don't think it's global warming I think it's more about being at the edge of
temperate and frigid zones. That interface moves slightly north or south and
our weather changes drastically.

Not many places in Canada other than Vancouver have milder winters than
Southern Ontario.

So this winter hasn't been harsh by Canadian standards but it has by recent
Toronto standards.

This weeks snowfall isn't that unusual for March but it's been relentless since
December and that's unusual.

Anyway, thanks to all for the comments and for looking.

Cheers,
frank

Re: PESO - March Snow

2014-03-14 Thread John

I don't know how Upstate I really was. I was only visiting. My friends
both called it Upstate.

Back during my first attempt at going to college in the late 60s one
spring break while everyone else headed south, I ended up in New
Paltz and Oneonta to visit friends who had gone to school up there.

Hitch-hiked up and back. I remember snow on the ground, but fortunately,
it didn't snow on me while I was on the road. Snowed before I got there,
snowed after I left.

That pic was taken about 1/2 way through the snowfall. Total in our end of town
about the same as you: 6-8 inches.

Tonight huge winds and low temps make for a cold midnight commute home. Feels
like -25C - somewhere below 0F. Cold for March.

Don't know about records but it has been the coldest, snowiest winter since I
moved to Toronto 19 years ago. Reminds me of my younger days in Montreal.

Doesn't bother me though. Just need to dress accordingly. Army surplus parkas
do the trick!
