Very good stuff, Walt. I love seeing that flowering tree -- is it a cherry, or apple? I like that crumbling window, but I think a more squarish crop, in tight, might be better. I'd try an 8x10 format. On Wed, Mar 14, 2012 at 1:18 AM, Walt Gilbert ldott...@gmail.com wrote: Hi all, But for the extremely sunny conditions, it was the perfect day to get out on a photowalk. A very nice gallery. I especially like to two featuring old barns or garages and the two dog images. Re: GESO: Photowalk -- 3/13/2012
Thank you, David. The flowers are just about perfectly situated for photographing, sitting on top of a steep roadside embankment, about seven feet above the road. Just a hop over a shallow ditch and about two steps up the side of the embankment, and you're right there. The biggest challenge is not sliding down the embankment. -- Walt On 3/14/2012 3:54 AM, David J Brooks wrote: First dog shot and all of the building shots are nice. I believe that's a Bradford pear tree, if I'm not mistaken. They're beautiful when they blossom in spring, and grow really fast. But, from my experience, you have to be hyper vigilant about keeping them pruned. Otherwise, they shed limbs like crazy and split at the slightest provocation. I like that crumbling window, but I think a more squarish crop, in tight, might be better. I'd try an 8x10 format. I toyed with that crop aspect at first, but for some reason, my eye wanted to see more of the brickwork. I'll have to revisit it since you mentioned it. Re: GESO: Photowalk -- 3/13/2012
Thanks, Dan! Those are old Burley tobacco barns that don't get much use these days as very few farmers grow it anymore. The old saying goes, you have to be strong in the back and weak in the mind to grow tobacco -- and I guess all the old guys' backs have finally given out. The dog was too good-looking a beast not to get a few shots of him -- extremely friendly and kind of a goofball. I'd have probably spent the rest of my daylight playing with him if he hadn't lost interest an gone on about his business. I got a few other shots of him that I liked, but am still working to see what I want to do with them. Thanks again! -- Walt On 3/14/2012 9:19 AM, Daniel J. Matyola wrote: A very nice gallery. Re: GESO: Photowalk -- 3/13/2012
Thank you, Frank! The Purina wall is one I've photographed dozens of times, but manages to keep frustrating me. The roof line of the building is extremely close to the top-left corner of that sign and it always ruins the image in my eye. And the flag on the front porch was the very thing that caught my eye. That particular home has lots of interesting photo fodder on the property -- weeping willows, a duck pond, old horse wagons, old gas station signs, etc -- and one of these days I'm going to see if I can get permission just to wander around on it taking photos. -- Walt On 3/14/2012 10:15 AM, knarftheria...@gmail.com wrote: Like 'em all, especially that Purina wall and double especially the front porch.
