For Kindle users, Calibre does a good job of converting to the .mobi format and Amazon has a free app called Send to Kindle that will upload to your Kindle. Send to Kindle also shows up in your printer list and will convert documents to PDFs and upload them to your Kindle as well. -p On 5/8/2013 3:45 PM, Darren Addy wrote: I've purchased the eBook version and am downloading it now. It supports all the major e-book formats. By the way: Let me know if you have any trouble with the ebook. I've tested it on my Android tablet using FB Reader and it works great. I can also read it on my desktop computer in Adobe Digital Editions. If it pauses for a while when you get to section 4 it's because it's loading all the photographs into memory and this can take some time. Other notes: I've improved the ebook design a little this year and I've made the images a little larger (while restricting them to 1000 pixels in the longest dimension - I don't feel comfortable about giving away higher resolution versions of your photos). With most ebook reader software on a tablet device you can press and hold on an image and it will bring up the full resolution version. -- Mark Roberts - Photography Multimedia www.robertstech.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: IT'S HERE! Fifth PDML Photo Annual!
It should come as no surprise that once again looking through the PDML annual is a very humbling experience. I've spent enough time on other photography fora to truly appreciate the level of expertise on the PDML. Most online photo discussions seem to be a place where the experts are defined as people who have learned the relationship between f-stop and depth of field. Not only do we have some very accomplished photographers on this list, but the annual represents the very best of their work over the past year, and the results are truly stunning. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com http://red4est.com/lrc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Will have to spend the evening RTFM. I think that a lot of us are following the same logic. Besides, the longer you wait to buy high end electronics, the less that that performance will cost you. When I first got mine, I was having crappy luck with battery life, it seems to have improved a lot. Don't know whether that's from going from the rayovacs to the older hybrios. Whether the rayovacs tend to have a weak battery in each set. Whether hybrid batteries lose some capacity (not just charge) when they haven't been used for a while, but using them brings it back. Or maybe it's just clicking info so that the back display isn't always coming on saves a lot of battery. One gotcha I learned is that setting it to correct for lenses doesn't make much difference on single shot, but screws up bracketing as it'll buffer two then hang on the third shot. Do try out the movie mode, even if you don't think you have any use for it. Especially try it out with a good prime lens on it. The image quality is very impressive. -p -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Well, enjoy it. Your strategy is pretty sound. I am hoping for the same - a K7 with K-x capable high ISO. Just a small tip - there is a setting for battery type. You can set to lithium or Nimh or Alkalines or auto sense (default). I found it didn't sense some of my nimh batteries very well and showed them as almost dead. It works better to switch it to the type of battery you use. -- Best regards, Bruce Thursday, March 18, 2010, 2:11:08 PM, you wrote: PS A black K-X from BH. Less than $550 including 2 day shipping. My sentiments exactly. I've just finished selling off the rest of my pre-AF Pentax lenses (keeping only the A50/2.8 Macro) since I've replaced all of them with the newer, better performing current series offerings. Adding cost to the package to support 20+ year old lenses is less desirable to me than making a very fine camera with good ergonomics, responsiveness, etc. It's been well-established (primarily by the short burst from a troll awhile back) that it's a very minimal additional expense. I for one, can't think of any single feature that I would like better than full k-mount support. Without it, I doubt there will be any incentive for me to upgrade. -Cory -- * * Cory Papenfuss* * Electrical Engineering candidate Ph.D. graduate student * * Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University * *

Over on the Nikon BB, there are about a dozen members with the D200. One has reported banding and Nikon UK is fixing it free. Nikonn is aware of this problem, not like the D2H were they buried their collective heads in the sand about the AE board. As far as KW, how can a guy who shoots basic Jpeg affect my desisions.gBut i must add, he actuall tried this camera. Dave The issue Nikon's been having with the early production D200s isn't the sensor itself. It's in some of the supporting hardware and adjustable/controllable, within limits of course. People who are experiencing a problem are being told to return their cameras for a service to eliminate it. From what I was told by a Nikon tech, it's simply changing some small setting or resistor. I think the choice of sensor is excellent. By the time Pentax goes into production on it, all the kinks with the components should be well known and easy for them to eliminate in the final product. An optical graycode wheel and miniature sensor array on the aperture feedback system would be both inexpensive and very reliable. I think the costs and other issues relating to the aperture feedback control have been blown out of all proportion. They could have done it at minimal cost if they wanted to, they simply chose not to, and only user backlash forced them to implement the green button kludge. It seems like they aren't about to make the same error on the D645 and cost has nothing to do with it IMHO. I think it is just an *isD with a better sensor. I also think that the camera looks rather bland particularly if it cost semi-pro money. The contrast to the 645D couldn't be larger. Although the 645D is no classical beauty, it is camera with presence, original design and doesn't look like anything else. In addition the design offers uniqe features. Most importantly the slanted top panel makes it possible to adjust and see setting when the camera is on a tripod at eye level. Anyone who has tried to change setting on, say, the Z-1p (who is the worst offender of all cameras as the LCD panel is at the top of the prism), under such circumstances knows it involves taking the camera off the tripod for setting functions. Also the two tripod sockets are brilliant. Why don't Pentax make their semi-pro K-mount DSLR similar? They are no longer bound to the old shapes dictated by film- Pål

Re: It's here (was: Another pre-PMA rumour...)
How are you able to determine how large it is? I'd sure be disappointed if it had image stabilization, a feature I'd not want to pay for either with dollars or with weight and complexity. Both look to have a green button, but what does that say? It may imply to some that the green button will work in the same manner it does on the istD, but there's certainly no guarantee of that, although it probably does. There would definitely a loud cry of outrage should the cameras not work with the earlier manual focus lenses. Shel [Original Message] From: Pål Jensen The camera seem quite large. If you are interested, dpreveiw has a full review of the 200D http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond200/ He stupidly compares the noise characteristics against the Canon 5D (full sensor, less pixel-packing; the D200 is an APS sensor so the pixels are packed tighter) so the noise at 1600 and 3200 looks higher. Still it isn't bad. There have been reported banding issues but apparently Nikon has fixed that and it may have been a software/firmware deal and not an inherent problem in the sensor. My guess is that the new D-whatever from Pentax will be a great camera in as much as the original was. Image stabilization? Full k-mount computability? Who cares really. I'm more interested in frame rate and buffer size. Can I rattle off 23 RAW frames at 5 FPS? :-) -- Christian http://photography.skofteland.net
