PZ isn't mentioned in the press release.

Either it means that it is not implemented, or it means that they
don't think it's a function worth mentioning. IMO, the latter is the
case. :-)

I wonder if the ILM contacts are switched other than with the on/off switch?
It would make sense to not have constantly live power contacts hanging about,
just in case someone manages to short them. Once a suitable lens is attached
it might inform the body to turn on the contacts. A PZ lens (probably) would
not do that.

Don't worry, powerzoom is available in K10D and mentioned in final
press release (not the one that is floating around :-)

Did I say 28-120? :-). Obviously it had to be 105 on the long end. I
parted it a year ago when I was selling my MZ-3 and the buyer wanted 28-105
to go with it. Now I miss it.
Besides, my statement had to be in the past tense. I HAD all these PZ zooms
but not now except one.
Ummm, 28-105PZ was a good handy one :-(.

Hmm... I don't think so. In the specs, under Lens Mount:

Power Zoom Function - Not Available

The contacts are definitely there and most likely re-implemented to
support the potential SSM lenses, but there are also some fairly
strong rumours that the camera does support power zoom. Who to
believe?

I used it when I was using the 28-80/3.5-4.7 lens.
When I got the 24-90, I stopped using it of course,
and didn't miss it one bit.

I thought it was useful particularly for a longer and heavier lens such as
80-200/2.8. I had a 28-70/2.8 as well. The PZ for that particular lens was
not quite useful but it did not bother me to have it available. Actually,
looking back, I have all PZ lenses including 28-120 and 70-200 (consumer
zooms). I sold them all.

If you do not use the PZ function, it only adds up the weight and perhaps
the diameter (and money :-).
