Re: PESO: An attempt at product photography
Hi Francis, good shorts. Some comments: On the first one, I would play with the lighting more - the lower part is too bright for my taste, and it could do with less reflection, but that is quite hard to achieve, if possible. The second one looks very good. I like the high contrast look with the light spilling off the flare spots. On my monitor the light spots are too dark though, they look gray, they do not have near 255 brightness. Adjust the levels more. The smoke is very good. For a more traditional but perhaps better selling product shot, I would get more light from the front, and less red as well. Retouch the fluff that's floating in the air and also on the top rim of the bowl, and I would like to see more texture in the wood (more lighting from front). Hope this helps :) Frantisek

Like it, especially the second one. The smoke seems to be forming a chain. Nicely captured. The top one (shot with M50 2.0 and Vivatar macro TC) was on a glass pie pan with a piece of paper on top and a 100 watt table lamp underneath as well as a 40 watt one on the table for filling in the shadows and giving it that little highlight. The one on the bottom (shot with K200 f2.5) was balanced on a rear lens cap with my camera bag (which I managed to melt a hole in) and the two lights behind it. It was 100 film but for some reason this one was really grainy. http://www.photosynth.ca/photo/f/bowls.html What do you think? There's something about the top one that bothers me a bit: I think it's the lighting. The bottom 1/2 of the bowl seems to be too bright. Not blown out, mind you, it just doesn't look right, maybe because I expect the top or sides to be brighter in relation to the bottom. The bottom is a great shot! As a committed incense user (some would say addict g), I appreciate it, but it's just a lovely shot. Love the way the plume of smoke gradually goes OOF. Re: PESO: An attempt at product photography
Hello Francis, The first one is quite good in showing the product. I rather like it. The second one is a bit too artsy for really showing off the piece. The lighting on the two sides blows out the bowl. Not sure if the hole in the bag was worth it. Nice work. -- Best regards, Bruce Tuesday, April 19, 2005, 12:50:49 AM, you wrote: F Here are a few shots I took for my brother of some of his wood turning.
