Thanks for the details, I thought it was a MF shot.
Did it strike you that the landscape resembles a human form?

No. But Cotty certainly thought so!

BTW: This shot definitely confirmed the legendary quality of the Vivitar
Series 1 zoom:
...and I just went out and bought an SMC F 70-210.

Oh, that's a lovely lens! I've owned one of those in the past. Didn't
have it at the same time as the Vivitar so I don't know how they'd
compare. Still, the Vivitar's strictly manual focus so they're kind of
different animals. I keep the Vivitar in my small and light kit. The
relatively wide aperture and 1:2.5 macro capability make it really
versatile.

Aside from optical quality, I'd compare them like this:

Vivitar 70-210/2.8-4 advantages:
  Wider max aperture
  1:2.5 macro
Filter ring doesn't rotate when focusing

Pentax F70-210 advantages:
  Smaller lighter (slightly)
  Autofocus
  Takes smaller (less expensive) filters

Fantastic shot.
Details? Format/Lens/Exposure?

Lessee...
The shot itself is of Mt. Jefferson in Ashe county, North Carolina.
Camera is a Pentax MX. Lens is the Vivitar 70-210/2.8-4.0 Series 1 (at
or near 210mm)

BTW: This shot definitely confirmed the legendary quality of the Vivitar
Series 1 zoom: Viewing the original scan at 1:1 in photoshop I can
(barely) make out the outline of the old ranger's tower on the top of
Mt. Jefferson!
