TEST - was Re: OT: I have a new computer

2021-10-14 Thread John Sessoms
I think I now have my email client set up for my three email accounts.
It should default to plain text whenever I try to send an email.

On 10/13/2021 8:41 PM, John Sessoms wrote:
The manufacturer sent me a replacement unit. It started up with no
apparent problems (yet) & I'm setting it up now.

I've got to install all of the software I use and configure it.

Among other things I'm trying to set up my email client (Thunderbird) so
that it will only send/receive plain text.

I just spent half an hour on the phone with Spectrum's Tech Support
getting the correct settings for the roadrunner email servers, so I hope
y'all can see this. I'll save this message so I can follow up on the
links once I get Firefox installed and relegate Windoze Edge to it's
proper place.

I've got a 9 page print out of all my accounts & the security settings I
need to implement. One of the things I need to do is set up my hosts file.

That was pretty sobering - if true. I _think_ I would have thought that some

Thanks. Yahoo does not play nice with email lists, but it looks like it mainly
happens when people are using Gmail to subscribe to the list.

There was a technical explanation I saw one time that I think Yahoo does
something to the headers that when the list server sends them back out it tells
Gmail it's probably SPAM.

I'll bet the test message from Yahoo ended up in your Gmail SPAM folder.

Thanks for letting me know.

I've had a PDML folder for incoming mail only for  20 years with no
problems...  but my typing gets worse every second. keyboard shortcuts
provided by whatever software i'm in (or you or anyone) can be killers.
needless to say i have no idea what combination of keys I hit to move
the folder to DRAFTS,..
but I moused it back into my regular inbox... relieved that it was not
something in thunderbird.  It even could ahve been somthng I did with
the mouse...
who knows? It happens when I'm on facebook frequently.. there is some
combo of keys I hit the brings up the underlying code in a side panel
and I have to log out of the game board to get rid of it.

I only have three sub-folders under INBOX - PDML, cafepress sales, and
ebay... it aint complicated.

Hello all. I finally decided to do something about Google deciding that my
website was dangerous. I decided to go with a different web host. I'm still
going to use dropbox to backup my pesos but I'm not going to use it to directly
display them, (ah, the redundancy of it all).

I'd appreciate feedback on the whether there are any problems with reaching the
web page or nasty warnings from Google et. al. if not on the image itself.

Re: Test II - Sending from Yahoo to see if it comes back to Road Runner

2020-02-20 Thread John

Neither Google nor Yahoo play well with others.

There weren't any other messages in PDML for a while. Usually if the drought is
not prolonged, I won't worry about it, but then I wasn't even getting "SPAM" in
my regular (non-PDML) inbox (Amazon, Egghead, several photography sites who on
rare occasions have news of interest).

Based on my experience with my providers I thought I'd better check.

Thank you and thanks to all the other PDML subscribers who provided feedback.

I was going to mention the jury-rigged/jerry-rigged nature of my current email
setup but I learned something interesting when I looked them up before writing.
Jury-rigged and jerry-rigged are not quite the same thing. Jury-rigged is
"something rigged up temporarily with materials on hand, often in an ingenious
manner" (think MacGyver), while jerry-rigged has negative connotations of
something poorly built (think Homer Simpson).

Learn something new every day.

Re: PESO - She's got legs. [and a test]

2019-11-05 Thread John
I use a Mozilla browser called Pale Moon and it didn't give me any problems
seeing the image - no warnings no fuss. That's the browser where I have NoScript
installed.

I have Firefox as a backup browser because there are some sites I need to access
where NoScript doesn't work or won't allow necessary functions to work.

Larry's message made me check what happened with Firefox, and I get the big red
screen ... but I got something else weird, even before I pasted the tinyurl into
the address bar. There was a red banner across the top of the screen that says:

"- The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of
Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can
cause this problem."

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional?redirectlocale=en-US&as=u&redirectslug=The+bookmarks+and+history+system+will+not+be+functional&utm_source=inproduct

*IF* Google has eaten my bookmarks, I'm going to be *PISSED OFF!*

The first suggested "fix" is to restart your computer. I had just restarted
before I logged on to read email (PDML).

..

Shut it all down and restarted again and opened Firefox first. My bookmarks are
back, but I'm still mad at Google about it.

The tinyurl does still trigger the deceptive site warning in Firefox.

If you click the [See details] button there's a link where you can _report a
detection problem_. I used it to notify Google they've got a FALSE warning for
pdml.updog ... Hope that will help.

Maybe if the rest of PDML also took the time you'll get your website back ...

Re: test

2019-11-04 Thread P. J. Alling
It's convenient, and ubiquitous, unfortunately.  Google supplies free
services about the web to everyone else.  You can't get away from them.
I use gmail, but I subvert some of it's intent by using their pop server
so I can more or less ignore the parts of gmail I don't want.

If you hate Google so much, why use Gmail?

Re: PESO - She's got legs. [and a test]

2019-11-04 Thread P. J. Alling
Updog doesn't have much really.  They're a free service that allows you
to host a custom website on Dropbox or Google Drive and get your own
free subdomain, which simply redirects to whatever you've put on one of
those two platforms.  So it's actually either Dropbox or Google that's
hosting the phishing attempt.  I'm betting on Google, they're sloppy as
hell most of the time.

The funny thing is that Updog is an official Google App (and Dropbox as
well), for the web.

There is no PESO I'm testing to see if the address is triggering the
Email system to reject my post.

I wandered around an art collective exhibit at Yale University's West
Campus, today.

The young lady in the foreground was an exhibitor, sitting in front of
her work, which consisted of large canvas' covered with brightly colored
splotches of acrylic paint.  I'm sure that everyone wanted to discuss
her technique, really I mean it.

Equipment: Pentax K-5II w/Sigma DC 17-70mm f2.8~4.5

Re: Which laptop for Lightroom and how to test?

2019-10-30 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
I only know Apple equipment.

I used a 13" MacBook Pro (2013 and 2014 versions) as well as MacBook Air (2016)
for some time. All did a fairly good job, the Pro models a bit better due to
their better graphics cards.

Lately, I'm transitioning away from using Adobe products and using an iPad Pro
11" for most of my mobile image processing, using RAW Power in conjunction with
Photos, and occasionally SnapSeed.

I have Lightroom v6.14 running on my ancient 2012 Mac mini (fully stuffed and
with an SSD drive), running macOS Mojave, as my desktop system at home; but
it's going to be replaced with a new Mac mini running Catalina soon. Once I do
that, I'll install RAW Power on it too and completely dispense with Adobe
products.

Thanks Bipin Gupta,
How large are the DNG files that you are processing? (K1?)

I run both Lightroom Classic CC 2019 and Photoshop CC 2019 without any lag.
There are some (49) other Programs and Apps loaded on the Laptop +

Note: Aim for some 22% Free space on the HD to run your Laptop at a

Windows 10 setup on Hi Performance mode.
USB 3 (Laptop) to USB 3 (say WD 4 TB External) is pretty quick.
Booting is fast too. I keep the OS and Registry clean with CCleaner &

Never had any error messages or Blue Screen.
