They don't have a locking seal but they are transparent. Supposedly they do not off-gas. I use them for objects at home and I do notice that while Rubbermaide containers have an odor, the Sterilite containers do not. They are more rigid than the Rubbermaid containers as well. You can find them at places like Fred Meyer and Target. Sam Samantha Richert, Curator Klondike Gold Rush NHP P.O. I looked at both your Amazon link and at their own website. They seem ideal for small items, but I could not find any large enough for larger objects. We have many pieces that barely fit into a 24 x 36 polyethylene bag, and some Kpelle masks with feathered coifs approach 40. The larger pieces can always be handled individually, but I wonder if there are 18-24 x 30-36 containers similar to the LL that could accommodate the bulk of our collection. Having transparency, a good seal, being nestable and stackable with enough capacity seems ideal. [pestlist] electronic squirrel deterrents
This is a message from the Museumpests List. To post to this list send it as an email to pestlist@museumpests.net To unsubscribe please look at the footer of this email. --- Hello all, One of our historic buildings, a log cabin, has squirrel issues. We've tried plugging the holes with hardwire cloth and copper mesh, but the squirrels just pull it out and use it as nesting material. The building has double walls with a gap in between, perfect for stuffing with apples and raising squirrel babies. A member of our maintenance crew brought in information about an ultrasound emitter that acts as a repellent. (This one is called YardGard.) Does anyone have any experiences with these kind of devices and whether they work? Thanks, Sam Samantha Richert, Curator Klondike Gold Rush NHP P.O. [pestlist] freezing large wooden artifacts
This is a message from the Pest Management Database List. To post to this list send it as an email to pestlist@museumpests.net To unsubscribe please look at the footer of this email. --- Hello - I am writing to ask for treatment advice for some larger wooden artifacts. I am currently doing support work for the National Park of American Samoa and it has come to my attention that three larger wooden artifacts in the collection that show signs of wood-boring beetle damage. The objects are two bas-relief carvings and a kava bowl. The carvings measure 80-90 cm long, 40 cm wide and 6-10 cm thick. They are carved from teak. The kava bowl measures about 16 cm tall with a diameter of 43 cm.The type of wood is unknown. Is freezing a viable option or do we risk cracks or splits in the artifacts? If we need to look at fumigation or anoxia for treatment, are there any service providers in Honolulu (where the artifacts are currently stored) that anyone has experience with? Thanks very much for your help. [pestlist] UV lights for identifying rodent urine
This is a message from the Pest Management Database List. To post to this list send it as an email to pestlist@museumpests.net To unsubscribe please look at the footer of this email. --- Greetings-- I am looking for a UV light to help identify rodent entry points. I've found a wide variety of models ranging from LED-type flashlights to flourescent tubes, different wattages and types of batteries. . . a wide variety of claims as to which model is the most effective. A wide variety of prices too, from $20-200. Does anyone have experience with UV lights, and do the more expensive ones really work better? Thanks for your help.
