I know that this is really off topic, so let me begin by saying so sorry,
but preserving Family history is very important to me.

Last year, I took 23 reels of 8mm movies that we found in my Grandmother's
basement when she passed away, to Alexander's Photo in Des Moines and had
them converted to DVD. I then ripped thekm to my computer (Windows Vista
premium home edition 64 bit) used Windows movie maker to bring the reels
together and selected my favorite music to add a soundtrack. Old timey
music, soundtrack from O Brother where art thou and such. I burned them to
DVD's with my Lightscribe DVD burner and burned the family crest into the
DVD's along with a personalized name of each Family member under the Family
Crest. I put together a few family photos and made artwork to go into the
front of the DVD cases.

Now all of my Aunts and Uncles, Parents, Cousins and my Sister have a copy
so that the family history can be preserved. It cost me a few hundred
dollars, but the memories will live on!

I also bought a projector to convert my 8mm movies. But it has a tendency to
damage films. Besides, it would be a huge amount of work. And DVD's are
considered of date these days. Best way is to have someone who has
professional 8mm to MP3 video converter equipment. Yes, you can buy a
machine like that for, uh, $15K or something, but is easier to let the
professionals do it for you.

Have you heard of Peggybank.com? I just sent about 100 8mm films to to
Peggybank to have them converted. Check out their website, and read the
recent article by Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal on Peggybank. Do
a Google search on Peggybank Wall Street Journal. Even better than getting
MP3 files videos for your computer (or if you insist, old fashioned DVD's if
you pay extra), they give you a free webpage at peggybank.com where they
post ALL videos and still pictures that they digitize for you. So instead of
emailing my 100 MP3 videos to my relatives, I only have to give them the
link to my webpage! I believe friends will also be able to download the
videos, in addition to watching them, but I'm not sure (mine aren't ready
yet).

one lying around that they want to part out.

I have this record, also. I'd like to know the purpose of the record and the
history of it.

I found a 12 one sided Columbia record which has a picture of Kaiser Wilhelm
II on the label, with the phrases Gruss an den Kaiser - (Greetings to the
Emperor) and Gott mit uns - (God with us). The number is 59408 - last
patent date is Nov. 30, 1909 and the title is: Dem Deutschen Kaiser Gewidmet
Von Dem Mozart-Verein in New York - (Dedicated to the German Emperor Of The
Mozart Club in New York). The label is a very detailed and attractive one and
the record was made in the US - I can provide pics if necessary.  Does anyone
have any info to shed some light on this?

If memory serves there is a tizit that has the ball joint but straight
ends. I have Triumph B with a horizontal carriage on it and a Cygnet
horn and there is indeed a slip connector but As I have not used it for
10+ years I am at a loss how I had it setup. It was touchy with the
spring suspension and I suspect it will be even a larger pain with the
 solid hanger.

Hello, On the early cygnet horns without the springs in the suspension for
the small carriage you need the metal tizit. Is this the same for the
  horizontal carriage? Thanks, Steve
