Re: [Phono-L] The Death of Amberola III SN304

2013-03-24 Thread clockworkhome

I sent this off to the seller and got the same answer as you, Peter:

Dear peachland250,

A friendly note, the machine you are breaking up is one of only 1,200 Amberola
III machines made. The few remaining examples have historically been worth more
than the parts since collectors value the machine as a whole and yours has the
serial number on the cabinet too. Few collectors will need parts other than the
motor and the reproducer. The last time an Amberola III sold at auction here in
California, it went for $3,200 and it was not as clean as yours. I would be
surprised if you get that much for the various components.

My goal was to instill a good case of SELLER'S REMORSE...
Since inducing guilt in the face of greed rarely works ! ! !

Regards,

Al

Well now some of the bits have sold.

So uncool to break up a perfectly good machine like that. I contacted him
further and politely suggested he reconsider, and he responded:

Re: [Phono-L] The Death of Amberola III SN304

2013-03-24 Thread George Paul
There's still hope. So far, all the parts to Amberola III No.304 have been
purchased by the same collector who is attempting to keep the machine together.
This collector already has an Amberola III and his actions are solely for the
preservation of this particular example. He told me that, if he can acquire
all the parts and reassemble it, the machine may be available for another
collector, or he might simply donate the machine to a museum or other
institution that will preserve it. I'm happy to say that at least one other
collector has expressed interest in buying No.304, so this risk he is running
may turn out well for all involved.

I would encourage supporting this effort buy abstaining from bidding on the
remaining parts to No.304. With a little luck, this machine should be saved
later on today. Feels like an animal rescue...!

Best to all,

George P.

With those obscure server addresses, many of the other servers will deem it
to be junk email or it never goes through and remains in email heaven. I
have a hit and miss ratio when I send to any comcast.net addresses. One of
the reasons he is not responding could be as simple as he has not gotten it.
Or he could be ill or something has happened that no one could have
foreseen.

Hello Bill, I must agree with you, but I will still honor the offer I made
below but after this I will no longer associate with Chuck Richards. I spent 5
hours editing the e-mail to him to make certain I did not offend him, he took
this as me blowing him off. He send me an e-mail titled last chance which I
took as a threat, but I had no idea he would give me less than 24 hours to
respond to the insulting phone message he left for me where he stated that he
had no idea how such poor work left my shop when the reproducer left in his
hand. My offer still stands to Chuck: If you want an original hinge block
send me the repro back along with the address where you want it sent and I will
send an original in a padded mailer first class with delivery confirmation so I
will know you have received it. I will send you the glass diaphragm at no
charge along with the metal diaphragm at no charge and the early copper
diaphragm at no charge. I will send you two reproduction eyelets al
ong with these parts at no charge. I will send the glass diaphragm in a round
tin wrapped in tissue to protect it. Steve

 Steve M.,

Since you have time to post here, but do not have time
nor the inclination to return my emails or telephone
calls, I have little to no choice but to post here
in hopes that you will see this and respond to it.

I need for you to send me the original hinge block
that you promised me one week ago.

I am so sorry to all of the other list members
that I must resort to using this list in this way.

It will not happen often, nor maybe ever again.
This is such an unusual and unexpected circumstance, that
I have no other options at this point.

Please everyone try to forgive me for doing it this
way. But I have exhausted every other option.

I sent this off to the seller and got the same answer as you,
 Peter:

  Dear peachland250,

A friendly note, the machine you are breaking up is one of only
1,200 Amberola III machines made. The few remaining examples have
historically been worth more than the parts since collectors value
the machine as a whole and yours has the serial number on the cabinet
too. Few collectors will need parts other than the motor and the
reproducer. The last time an Amberola III sold at auction here in
California, it went for $3,200 and it was not as clean as yours. I
would be surprised if you get that much for the various components.

My goal was to instill a good case of SELLER'S REMORSE...
Since inducing guilt in the face of greed rarely works ! ! !

  Regards,

  Al

I am an extremely quite person on this forum but eagerly enjoy reading the
forum.

I was lucky enough to have been given Steve's name to me many years ago
and I have sent him many reproducers including Automatic, model B,C,K,H, O,R
Diamond A,B,C,D and max Wurcker to name a few. The machines that he has
bought back to life for me has been incredible. I once sent him a box of
reproducers and parts and he repaired what he could.

I live in New Zealand and have never had any doubts with Steve having in
possession any of these reproducers. His work is just amazing!

To be honest! I wouldn't have any doubt if Steve had access to my bank
account!

That is how much I trust him. There certainly isn't many people that I would
give that trust to. Especially someone that I haven't even met and who lives
on the opposite side of the world.

There must be some simple answer.

If you still have a problem I will supply you one myself! Rather that
reading this about my Friend on the forum!

All the best, Tony from New Zealand

I have to speak in Steve's defence as well. A nicer, and more honest human
being you will never meet. We first met Steve when we purchased a C reproducer
from him many years ago. He shipped the item to us in Canada and refused to
accept payment until he knew were satisfied. We have been friends ever since.
The work he has done on our reproducers has been excellent, and his detailed
knowledge of our area of collecting is unparalleled.
Steve will make sure you are satisfied and he will not hold a grudge for any
mis-communication. I only wish we lived closer so we could see him and his
lovely wife more often.

Interesting.

Just found a quote online, from someone we're getting to know better today, and

This is indeed unfortunate.
But everyone please remember that the people
who do things such as this set up bad vibes
for themselves in the universe.
Sooner or later, those vibes catch up with them.

People are ultimately and individually responsible for their deeds, and what
ever they
do in their lives sticks to them.

Of course I take full responsibility for everything that
