[Phono-L] Anyone got top housing of a Diamond B?
Hello all I am looking for a good top housing of a Diamond B reproducer. I have one that is swollen to the point where the diaphragm retaining ring falls to the bottom of the housing and will not engage threads. I didn't know when I got it that the ring was held in because it was wrapped with Scotch tape and jammed into the housing. Leads appreciated. John Robles ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org

I guess I posted too soon (though reports from others would be appreciated). I recognized the regulars like The Gfells, Charley Hummel, Steve Oliphant, Mike and Carolyn Devecka and Tom and Sandy McCarthy. Quite a few were not familiar to me. Probably know their name, but not their face. Steve ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org

OK Steve: The parking lot on Saturday morning was the biggest I remember, perhaps because the weather was so nice. It was a preview of the Sunday but there were some people with stuff to sell that were not among the vendors on Sunday. I bought about 40 records including two electric Diamond Discs for $5 each. The show on Sunday was, as far as I can tell, well attended . My sales of low-end machines and records were the best ever. My daughter was at my table and did most of the record sales. I think she probably gets the prize for the youngest sales clerk. There were few floor machines offered for sale which seems to continue the trend of the past few years. The usual vendors set up at the usual tables. Perhaps others can give different perspectives of the show. [Phono-L] Grafonola electric 150
Thanks to all for the info on my grafonola 150E.One problem I have with this machine is the tone arm elbow is frozen in the tone arm support.I’m not sure if on the electric model the elbow is somehow connected to the on-off switch, as moving the elbow is what turns the machine on off, under the tone arm support.Any ideas on freeing up then elbow or disassembly would be appreciated. Thanks,John ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org
Re: [Phono-L] Anyone got top housing of a Diamond B?
As a rescue method, maybe you could wrap the ring with teflon plumber's tape a couple of times. Once in place, excess tape could be trimmed off. Hi Ron I tried that but it would take a lot of tape. The opening is swelled up too much. Re: [Phono-L] Grafonola electric 150
Frozen elbows are a common problem with Grafonolas. Does it have two screws under the motor plate that will allow you to remove it from the motor plate? Do that, remove any set screws, turn the arm up to about 12:00 and ease it out. Then you can try penetrating oil and warming the base while cooling the elbow. DO NOT use a wrench on that elbow. You'll break it for sure and replacements are running close to $100 these days. Someone needs to make a good repro of these, I think. Looks like it is time to make friends with a machinist who can make a ring out of brass or aluminum for you. 8-) Ron L -Original Message- From: phono-l-boun...@oldcrank.org [mailto:phono-l-boun...@oldcrank.org] On Behalf Of John Robles Sent: Wednesday, October 23, 2013 10:44 AM To: Antique Phonograph List Subject: Re: [Phono-L] Anyone got top housing of a Diamond B? Re: [Phono-L] Grafonola 150E
John, If you can't find a good original part check with phono parts supplier Ron Sitko in NY. I recall seeing new nickel replacement Columbia elbow castings on his table at a recent phono show, he could probably tell you whether it is compatible with your electric model. Others here may have his contact information. Ron is well known in the hobby and a great resource. The original (potmetal) part is often swollen or cracked but sometimes you can find a good one. Best of luck with your project. -Mark -Original Message- From: john coffman jdcoffm...@comcast.net Sent: Oct 23, 2013 3:14 PM To: phono-l@oldcrank.org Subject: [Phono-L] Grafonola 150E Hello again,I no longer need to figure out how to free up the elbow as it broke apart in the removal attempt. If any one has an early tone arm elbow for sale please contact me.Thanks,John ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org

And I have the box set in hand as of last evening, and the two tracks on the vinyl disc are not included on the cds. The Greatest Thing That Man Has Ever Done is included on the cds, but it's part of the radio drama, and the version on the disc is a solo recording. There's lots to go through here, so I'll be enjoying it for a while. The box set looks like an old 78rpm book. Matthew ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org
