When I receive an answer to my question from an eBay seller and I click on the link is says removed so I believe eBay has a problem with links. When I click on the link, I get an ebay message that says the item was removed. It certainly looks correct in all respects but the speed control and crank location. The screws on the crank escutcheon look new too. The Victor Data book indicates that the cabinet is all correct though. The slip in elbow is a late feature. I have noticed the same thing and it is a feature of whatever e-mail program you are using failing to play nice with the seriously fouled up formatting from eBay. If eBay spent more time trying to simplify the reply format and dump all the whiz-bang formating used to appeal to the intellectually challenged users who are attracted to bright shiny things it would all function better. [Phono-L] Victor on Ebay
Has anyone checked out this late Victor IV on ebay? Here is the link to it: http://cgi.ebay.com/Victor-Talking-Machine-Phonograph-V-IV-w-Great-Horn-/180 604116113?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0 http://cgi.ebay.com/Victor-Talking-Machine-Phonograph-V-IV-w-Great-Horn-/18 0604116113?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0hash=item2a0cd81c91 hash=item2a0cd81c91 Is it possible that a late Victor would have a speed control with the indicator window? It does have a late serial number and the drop in elbow but I have never seen one with the speed indicator. Or, is it a very well done Crap-o-phone case? There are several subtle hints this one may not be what it appears to be. The speed control is one, the reproducer another.the 14X14 footprint is correct, however. H. Re: [Phono-L] Victor on Ebay
It's too bad there's no full view of the side on the machine, to see if a crank hole has been filled. The crank now looks suspiciously too far to the back of the machine. However, being a later machine (as can be seen by the back bracket), it could be the company was dropping Victrola mechanisms in V-IV cases to use them up. If that's the case, it could be a very rare machine. On Thu, Dec 23, 2010 at 7:54 PM, hexaph...@sbcglobal.net wrote: There are several subtle hints this one may not be what it appears to be. Re: [Phono-L] Victor on Ebay
Living in the Los Angeles area, I have seen several Victor horned machines that came from Mexico. This is consistent with the features of a late South of the border machine. Including the aluminum ID tag, slip in elbow, Victrola type motor, Victrola arm and #2 reproducer. I heard that after horn machines declined in the US due to the 'new' Victrola line, Victor shipped parts to Mexico where they were made for the Mexican market where the horn machined were still popular. It's impossible to verify this is 'correct' without seeing it in person, but I agree with Kurt.
