hi, i manged to install php but with mysqli support only, i want to configure it mysql and mysqli support. as it turned out the error occured when i tred to install both mysql and mysqli support, for the time i am living with mysqli support only untill i figure out what i wsa doing wrong. i have MySQL-client-5.0.1-0.i386.rpm,MySQL-Max-5.0.1-0.i386.rpm,MySQL-shared-5.0.1- 0.i386.rpm,MySQL-bench-5.0.1-0.i386.rpm,MySQL-devel-5.0.1-0.i386.rpm and MySQL-server-5.0.1-0.i386.rpm installed. waiting for comments on how to install both mysql and mysqli support. [PHP] IMAP connect problem
hi all, when i try to connect to imap server i get this and the script aborts. what should i do to fix. Certificate failure for localhost: self signed certificate: /C=US/ST=NY/L=New York/O=Courier Mail Server/OU=Automatically-generated IMAP SSL key/CN=localhost/[EMAIL PROTECTED] consider myself a newbie in the world of linux. Try using plain old IMAP (on port 143). If you still have trouble please first try to login using mozilla to confirm that the server is indeed accepting connections. Alternatively you can try to connect using good old telnet and try to execute imap commands. Hope this helps. consider myself a newbie in the world of linux. [PHP] Mysql Insert/Update Problem
here is what i am trying to achieve,i have 2 servers. Win2k and linux. mysql is running on my linux server.now i have quite a lot of that i need to update on linux server from win2k machine. here is what i am trying to do.i have a PHP CLI script that will open a dbx file extract records from the dbf file one by one check is the record is already on the linux server (mysql database). if the record is already on the linux server then it will update the mysql database on the linux server. but if the record is not in the mysq database running on linux then it will insert the record. the script is running on win2k server. there are 6 dbf file that i need to extract. comcat.dbf contains 581 records comgrp.dbf contains 79 records comsub.dbf contains 1896 records manuf.dbf contains 793 records prodaux.dbf conatins 17+ records products.dbf conatins 17+ records the script it taking to much time while inserting. it almost 24 hours now and still it isnt finished.what can i do to update the db faster. thanx for any help in advance Haseeb Iqbal.

[PHP] Script timeout Problem
hi,
i need to update a mysql table with a dbf file, the dbf file contains more then 16
records. i knew that the script will not be able to update 16 records in 1 go so i
am refreshing the page after speacific no of records. but still the same problem. the
script timeout.i tried changing the timeout limit to 300 secs but to noavail. i am

webserver i mean live server. this is also a factor for the timeout. the
script was running smoothly for 24000 recods before but now it suddenly
timeout after 800records. i dont know what is heppening

hi, i have heard a lot of people commenting about the coding style of other programmers. i think everyone has his own style. but i also say that there should be a standard that should be followed by everyone. i know that there are many good tutorials that explain how to code. anyway i have my own style. i like keeping all the functions in one file and the include the file whenever i need any function. now there are few problems in that. i prefer writing functions for almost everything sometimes the functions file grows to over 5,000 lines. now this is not good. when ever i need one simple function i had to include all the file. now i also don't like keeping functions in every file that uses it. this is becoming a big problem for me. also i have seen some programmer that prefer to use only one file as front end and place switch or if conditions and include other files depending on the condition. i think its good way of doing things but when the magnitude of the projects grows i find it very difficult for me to keep working. i find it very hard to concentrate. this is the problem, i have thought of the solution i.e. divide the functions into files. and then include only that file that has the function. but i thought i would ask you people how you handle this. may be i would find something that suits me more then this solution. thanx in advance. [PHP] Strange Problem
Hi all, thisis a very strange problem. i don't know where i amdoing something that is causing this. the problem is that i am working on a web portal entirely in php. i have a few hidden pages. that do the queries to the DB. now when i redirect toany page for query i get this error CGI Error The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are: strangely when i hit F5 or refresh the page i get redirected to the desired page. i have checked for any whitespaces. there are none. i have checked and double checked this. i am using win2k,IIS, php 4.3.0 again i have checked all the files for any space left that could be causing problem but i found none. i hope i make my self clear. Hi all, don't know for sure if this is heppening to me only or there are others who faced the same problem here is whats wrong when ever i set a cookie it didn't get set even i refresh the page (with php header function) but then i echo something on the page and then use HTML meta refresh the cookie becomes availble on the next page. what is it that i am missing here. [/snip] There are size limits for cookies dependent upon the browser. I am going to guess that you are testing with Netscape or Mozilla where the limit is 4kb. HTH! hi, i have seen some script using a unique method.they grab all the global variables in a array and then unset the global variables.ofcourse they are not handling file uploads.i think its a good idea if you are not uploading files. any suggestions are welcome Haseeb I'v noticed that when the directive register_globals is set to off as it is recommended in the php.ini file no variables are passed on to other pages. here is something for you from php manual The getimagesize() function will determine the size of any GIF, JPG, PNG, SWF, SWC, PSD, TIFF, BMP or IFF image file and return the dimensions along with the file type and a height/width text string to be used inside a normal HTML IMG tag. Returns an array with 4 elements. Index 0 contains the width of the image in pixels. Index 1 contains the height. Index 2 is a flag indicating the type of the image: 1 = GIF, 2 = JPG, 3 = PNG, 4 = SWF, 5 = PSD, 6 = BMP, 7 = TIFF(intel byte order), 8 = TIFF(motorola byte order), 9 = JPC, 10 = JP2, 11 = JPX, 12 = JB2, 13 = SWC, 14 = IFF. These values correspond to the IMAGETYPE constants that were added in PHP 4.3. Index 3 is a text string with the correct height=yyy width=xxx string that can be used directly in an IMG tag.
