I only was able to shoot two pinhole photos before they put me under for the surgery... I knew you were going to do that. Did you have them mount a pinhole in your skull to project an image on your brain? So glad to see you are not only over that one, but still pinholin'. Re: [pinhole-discussion] Shim Stock
Lee, I had to call 3 or 4 stores in one city before I found one that had it. The store that had it was in the same chain as those that didn't (NAPA) and he had a huge roll, snipped it off and sold it by the inch. In another town, they (again, same chain) didn't have brass, but had copper. That's maybe even a bit better because it is easier to darken than brass. If you want the best of all materials, go to a jeweler and have them roll you out a bit of 0.002 silver. pinhole-discussion@p at ??? wrote: From: Lee W. [pinhole-discussion] Thanks for all the prayers!!!
Hello All, I'm out of the hospital and everything is looking good. I want to thank all of you who said a prayer for me, I was pretty distraught and needed a backup so to speak. The doctors removed the cancer from the back of my skull, but couldn't find the mass that was supposed to be in my trachea. It may be due to all the prayers that were said. I'll have to have another CT scan to verify that it is indeed not there anymore. I only was able to shoot two pinhole photos before they put me under for the surgery, I hope they come out looking good. Yeah I'm a nut when it comes down to doing pinhole and I'll shoot on every chance I get. Thanks again for the prayers and I'll keep you posted as time will allow. Keep on Pinholin', Tom
Re: [pinhole-discussion] guitarbody pinhole
So you are not using the sound hole and will be making a hole for the pin hole where the neck attached. I would think that the resulting image would look somewhat like what I get with my oatmeal box cameras. The problem will be that on the curve of the lower half of the guitar body the curve under cuts the light so you will get shadows and the upper ends of paper will be much closer to the pinhole and will be much darker then what is imaged on the bottom. I would think it might be easier to make this shape camera out of a guitar case with the neck part cut off. It would allow you to have a large flap and clasps for sealing it up. Good luck. -- Chris Peregoy | http://www.gl.umbc.edu/~peregoy | http://imda.umbc.edu/
[pinhole-discussion] guitarbody pinhole
Thanks for the response. WHat I'm really looking for is if someone has a sense of what the neg might look like--and let's assume that all of the tech issues are solved...The body of the guitar looks really interesting from a pinhole point of view. Let's say that the ocal length is 400mm to the lateral end of the base of the guitar, and that we place the paper (in sections) along 75% of the interior. That means that there should be some bit of oddness happening at or around the points where the body and paper is somewhat indented. I could just go head and turn this ruined child's gutiar into a cam and see for myself, but being new to this medium I wanted to try and figure out what the resultant image might look like before going thru the hassle, or if someone with experience could help me along in how to visual the outcome without resorting to (yikes) some of the semi-advanced math of geometrical optics. My thinking is that the image might be exhaustedly distorted at the point where the body of the guitar bends in on itself...but maybe not? I'd certainly appreciate any insight on this little noodle of a problem. Thanks alot. John Ptak __ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/

I get it from Utrecht, my local art supply store. The package is made by KS Engineering package number 258 and includes .001, .002, .003 and .005 brass shims. Its in a section with model making parts, miniature trees and grass colored moss. You also might try a craft or hobby store. Lee W. Potts wrote: Hi Folks, Great list. Re: [pinhole-discussion] Calculating f-stop for pinhole camera
From: Rune Tallaksen tall...@alfanett.no Mount the pinhole sheet in a slideframe, place it in a slideprojector. Then by measuring the distance from the pinhole in the slideframe and to the projector screen and the diameter of the projected pinhole on the screen, by means of a formula it was possible to find the exact pinhole size. Anybody out there that know which formula (s) to use?? Do this: Mount your pinhole in a slideframe and project it, focus your projector and measure the pinhole projected diameter. Without altering your projector set up, find the Magnification your projector is set for: mount an empty slideframe in the projector (do not touch the focus) and measure its projected size. Remove the empty slideframe and measure its size. The magnification will be given by: Magnification = Projected slideframe size / Actual slideframe size Your pinhole diameter will be given by: Pinhole diameter = Pinhole projected diameter / Magnification NOTE: use the same units of measure in all the steps. Re: [pinhole-discussion] Calculating f-stop for pinhole camera
You can use the formula for similar triangles: (the distance from the lamp to the slide) divided by (the distance from the lamp to the wall) EQUALS (the size of the pinhole on the slide) divided by (the size of the pinhole on the wall) You should be able to increase the accuracy by removing the projector lens and forming the largest image possible on the wall. Re: [pinhole-discussion] Sheet Film Holders
In addition to using the holders, you'll have to devise a method for securing them to your camera in a light tight fashion. Re: [pinhole-discussion] PC/MAC compatibility question
Tina, The file format shouldn't be a problem. Macs can create and read both tiff and jpeg files, although i do know that there is an IBM tiff and a Mac tiff format. Nevertheless, as long as the person using the files has access to reasonably good softare, they should be convertible. The readability of the disc is likely to be a bigger problem. Sounds like you are going from a PC? I know that with my Mac equipment I can burn PC-readable discs. Good software on your side therefore should allow you to format a disc the other way around, in a Mac format. There are also programs, I believe, that will burn a hybrid disc with the same data readable by both platforms. Hope that helps. Colin __ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Re: [pinhole-discussion] PC/MAC compatibility question
Jpeg's are viewable by both Macs and Windows PCs, regardless of which OS on which they were created. However, on burning the CD you have to worry about which system will be used to read it. Your CD burner software should know this and provide ISO 9660 File Format, maybe one or two others, I forget. Alternatively, it would be possible to put everything in html on the CD, complete with links, so you'd have a confined web site. Your confusion results from mixing up graphics formats with file formats.
