Just to confirm, this issue does not appear in 1.1.3; SAP announcements

Bug#627255: ITP: zita-rev1 -- reworked version of the reverb originally developed for Aeolus

2011-05-18 Thread Alessio Treglia
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alessio Treglia

* Package name: zita-rev1
  Version : 0.1.1
  Upstream Author : Fons Adriaensen
* URL :
http://kokkinizita.linuxaudio.org/linuxaudio/zita-rev1-doc/quickguide.html
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : reworked version of the reverb originally developed for
Aeolus

REV1's character is more 'hall' than 'plate', but it can be used on
a wide variety of instruments or voices. It is not a spatialiser -
the early reflections are different for the L and R inputs, but do
not correspond to any real room. They have been tuned to match left
and right sources to some extent.
 .
In Stereo mode a dry/wet mix control is provided, so it can be used
either as an insert or in send/return mode. For mono just connect one
 of the two channels.
 .
In Ambisonic mode (selected by the -B command line option) the only
 option is the send/return mode.
 .
This package provide REV1, a standalone reverb effect.

Package: ecasound
Version: 2.4.4-6
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Segfault on exit/interrupt by TERM signal (kill or "Ctrl-C"); hang on small
buffer value in args.

Firstly about hangs, it's short. When I tried launch ecasound with small
buffer option, it hung, and so was killed with -9. The command line follows:

ecasound -b:128 -i ~/music/somefile.mp3 -o /dev/dsp

I don't know should it be named problem or bug at all, but nevertheless
it exists. Quite unsure if I had to create separate report mail, so it is
included here.

Secondly, about segfaults on interrupt. (Note: may be it's a problem
of plugins?)

I have met this problem trying examples from
http://www.eca.cx/ecasound/Documentation/examples.html, these command lines:

ecasound -i null -o /dev/dsp -el:sine_fcac,440,1
ecasound -i:null -o:/dev/dsp -pn:metronome,120

Segfault happens not always, but usually.
Terminal output for "kamerton" run and two (normal and segfaulted) for
"metronome" runs follow. Same results for "Ctrl-C" stops and kill -15.
The most of other example command lines from that address didn't cause
segfaults
on terminate.

$ ecasound -i null -o /dev/dsp -el:sine_fcac,440,1

Bug#627197: mplayer2 dies with signal 4 (illegal instruction) on an Altivec-enabled iBook G4

2011-05-18 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: mplayer2
Version: 2.0-54-gd33877a-1
Severity: important

Hi there.

The machine where I do a good amount of my development is an iBook G4 and I
was just trying to play a video, and I am having problems with it dying with
a signal 4 (illegal instruction).

I have not yet verified what instruction is the one that is making it die,
but this is somewhat surprising: I would expect this to happen with an
Altivec binary being run on a non-Altivec enabled processor (e.g., my iBook
G3), but not in this case.

Of course, I can give further details, but as I said in another e-mail, I am
busy moving home etc.

Thanks,

Rogério Brito.

I don't know, I'll investigate further.

Please remove lines starting with #MISSING: 2.8.0#, they just state
that a certain symbol listed in package.symbols is missing.
So if you provide a separate .symbols file, you don't need to include
any #MISSING# line in it.

Bug#627193: ecasound: FTBFS: incorrect symbols files

2011-05-18 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: ecasound
Version: 2.8.0-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

The builds of ecasound that didn't run into #627191 or #627192 both
failed anyway because the libraries' symbols weren't as expected:

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=ecasound&arch=sparc&ver=2.8.0-1&stamp=1305690667

It seems like the built ecasound binary is not found when testing.
I've just tried to build using sbuild, but it does not fail, maybe the
errors are caused by something in the configuration of the buildd daemons?

What's strange is that on sparc and powerpc the tests don't fail.

I've added the *.symbols files for sparc and powerpc, based on the diff of
the build log.

Package: vlc
Version: 1.1.7-2
Severity: normal

If I play a video (tried Ogg/Theora, FLV, MP4 etc) with vlc and hit
the close window button in the top right corner (or do Quit via the
right click menu or using COntrol-Q) the video stops playing, but the
window doesn't close. The only way I can close the window is sending
Control C, waiting for a second or two and then do Control C again.

However, if I play an audio file (tried Ogg/Vorbis and WAV) the close
window function works correctly.

This system is running pure etch, with no backports.

$ strace -o /tmp/vlc.strace vlc

   View->Playlist
  Manage->Services Discovery ->Manage Playlists->SAP Announcements

The application updates the count of sources in the lower left of the
Playlist window, and icons start appearing. But then the application
crashes, with the on-screen error message

** (.:22406): CRITICAL **: gtk_pizza_set_size: assertion `pizza != NULL' failed

in the strace, I see this:
$ tail /tmp/vlc.strace

I tried the G_SLICE trick mentioned in one of the other bugs
It appears this allowed the list compilation to get farther but it dies
in a similar fashion.

Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6-svn20061012.debian-5etch1

Where is the simpledvd: style URL supported by VLC documented? I
found nothing in the manual page, and nothing on Google.

I would like to know how it select which track to play. It tend to
play the wrong track for some of my DVDs, if track 1 is the one I want
(as in the longest track with the film on it. :).

The simpledvd feature is used by the mvpmc firmware, so I would very
much like it to pick the correct track automatically.

Happy hacking,

You can use the VLC open dialogs to generate URL with the correct syntax,
including dvdsimple: from disc panel, select DVD without menus.

Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6.c-4.1~lenny2
Severity: normal

It's true :)

Running KDE 3.5.8 here and I'm new to VLC. VLC has however replaced
both mplayer and audacious and I've got rid of the horrible w32codecs
package at last so I'm really pleased.

The only trouble I have is every time I make a video go full screen.

When do this, the whole screen gets just a little darker apart from a
slither of pixels on the far left of the screen.

If I keep flipping between full screen and windowed then the darkness
address up until I can't see the KDE desktop.

If at this stage however, I press control_alt_del for the logout prompt,
or if I activate the Kmenu, then it goes white again, just in that
redrawn area.

Given the nature of the problem I decided the best thing to do was to
take a video of it with my phone.

http://shezza.sdf-eu.org/bug.3gp

I noticed that VLC plays this ok, however it doesn't have any sound.
Maybe that could be a seperate bug report at another time :)

Any help with this KDE 'tanning' bug would be appreciated.

Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6-svn20061012.debian-5

I have a video processing script which includes this step:
  sf -t FakePipe:debug=0 -t Scratch \
  ffmpeg2theora -c 0 -o t.ogg -f image2 \
   /volatile/ian/tmp/d/composed/frame%06d.ppm --inputfps 30

The resulting video t.ogg is playable just fine with ffplay. However
with vlc I see only a black video window. The window is of the right
size and the progress scroller advances in an apparently normal way.

vlc reports no messages on its controlling tty except
  VLC media player 0.8.6a Janus
and then at the end
[0279] main playlist: nothing to play

The file t.ogg (10339K) is available here:
 http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~ijackson/vlc-ffmpeg2theoraoutput.ogg

Ian.

Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6-svn20061012.debian-5
Severity: normal

Hi!
I've found the next annoying bug in vlc: it continues to play sound after
closing.
This bug appears when I play DVD or use menu item "Open direcory..". While
playing
movie (don't stop playing movie) I press on the close button (or Exit in menu).
Vlc closes, but sound from the movie continues to play! And wxvlc is in the
processes.
If I stop movie and then close vlc, there is no sound from the movie, but wxvlc
still continues to be in processes. This bug doesn't happen when I watch other
files,
for example, *.flv from Youtube. I've found, that Ubuntu guys have this bug,
too:

Package: vlc
Version: 1.1.7-4
Severity: wishlist

While watching DVD-based video with VLC, with subtitle tracks enabled
and the main video frame scaled down to less than the available screen
(due to differing aspect ratio), the subpicture-based (I'm assuming)
subtitles still obscure parts of the main video. It would be nice to
be able to offset these into the surrounding letterboxing area, of
course taking the risk of unwanted distortions should any of the
content rely on spatial alignment with the main video.

Hi,

when streaming to a multicast address, setting the packet ttl through the
GUI has no effect and all packets are sent with a ttl of one. Specifying
--ttl on the command line works, though.

Alex

Hello,

I am not able to reproduce the problem with current Debian VLC 1.1.9. Can
you please provide the full output from vlc (vlc -vv)? Also please try with
valgrind as it is obviously a memory corruption problem.

Best regards,

Hello,

Unless the --sout-keep option is enabled, VLC will restart the stream
output pipeline at every input item. This is by design, and cannot be fixed
in the general case. In this particular case, your URL points to a playlist
with two items.

Best regaeds,

   Hello,

Unfortunately, there are no Linux VLC developers with a PowerPC and a
FreeBox... and in general, big endian hardware is hard for us to come by.
If the previous comment is to be trusted, we are going to need external
help. This does not seem like a very common issue, so downgrading severity.

Best regards,

   Hello,

VLC checks whether the standard output is a terminal. I find it pretty
damn idiotic for emacs to emulate a terminal but, not quite. It might as
well use a pipe or a local socket pair then. Unless someone can point to a
simple function in libc to check whether ANSI color or ANSI control codes
are supported, I am not going to fix this upstream. I cannot find any
standard and simple way to hit termcap or terminfo for that purpose.

Note that you can turn off colors with:
# vlc -H --nocolor
or
# vlc -H| cat

Best regards,

Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6.h-1
Severity: normal

I have no sound with one of the video I try to watch (works within totem)

When I start playback with vlc in command line :
[0339] a52 decoder: A/52 channels:6 samplerate:48000 bitrate:64

Selecting "none" in the Audio Track menu, then selecting back the right
track doesn't help.

When I enable verbose (-vvv) :

   Hello,

With the default settings, does the video come back when VLC looses focus?
It is probably that your XVideo driver is incompatible with desktop
compositing (and possibly a limitation of your graphical hardware). You can
use plain X11 (vlc -V x11) then, but video playback will be much more CPU
intensive. OpenGL is a middle ground.

   Hello,

The open file dialog is provided by the Qt4 GUI library, or possibly a
plugin to it, so I am reassigning this bug. Note however that it is very
likely that the issue is already fixed given the report is quite old. It
might also be that the issue is in a package providing a GUI platform
plugin to Qt.

Neither calling with --podcast-urls nor configured by settings works.
I always get some strange output.

Running vlc -v2 --podcast-urls "http://podcast.wdr.de/maus.xml"; gives this

   Hello,

I am unable to reproduce the problem. If the problem is systematic, then
you may want to retry with a more recent VLC and libdvdnav. Also a copy of
the vlc logs (vlc -vv) and vlc configuration (~/.config/vlc/vlcrc) could
help.

The dependencies should be able to help too though, but should be
specified in the packages themselves, no? If a piece of software
depends on jackd or pulseaudio, it specifies "Depends: jackd |
pulseaudio", and the user chooses (or doesn't need to choose, if pulse
is already there). If it can only use jackd then it "Depends: jackd".

reassign 624451 pulseaudio
thanks

   Hello,

The fact that your audio quality suffers regardless of how PulseAudio is
used by VLC (through libpulse or through alsa plugins) points very much at
a problem inside PulseAudio. I can only recommend you don't use PulseAudio
then. Reassigning anyway.

Best regards,

   Hello,

The provided stack trace does not make sense: module_list_get() does not
call libGL or NVidia. We cannot investigate your problem as you have
closed-source code running in the process. Please retry without the NVidia
stuff.
