+1. Having a first-start tutorial for Plasma would let us improve a bit
the defaults (Plasma is still suggested as better DE for old Windows
versions users, Windows evolves and we still look like Windows 7). Just
few steps, like "here there are the applications", "these are hot corner
effects", "you can search with Alt+Space"...

Another matter in my opinion is the wizard: it should be an icon placed
by default on desktop that say "First setup" or something like it. When
the user will be ready to try it, the wizard will suggest to setup
online accounts like email with Kontact, choose a Look & Feel package
and setup KDE Connect.

It could eventually suggest to install some additional apps like VLC.
When it will be possible to sync Plasma settings with something like
Nextcloud or local backups, for sure it should be proposed to the user
to import his settings.

chip in as well, everyone who participates in the discussion is part
of the jury.
There won't be a voting process. Either we can agree on a logo, or
everything
stays like it is (the official Plasma logo still being what we have
now, and the

K logo being used for the launchers).
I'd give us a discussion period until Sunday, unless a clear agreement
can be

reached before that.
Please refer to the logo proposals by the creator's forum name
(remember that
our current logo is Uri's, not mine ;) ), and for Ken's just say e.g.
"Ken's

fourth logo".
Happy discussions, here is to us finding a logo we can all (at least
more or

less) identify with!

Thank you. I fixed it because it missed one of mine. Now my submissions
are "submission 1 version 1,2,3,4" (it's the same logo with gear and

The feature is really nice, but it needs its own colors in System
Settings > Colors. I would really like if it will be possible to add
more "system" colors so also the mime-types icons could be customized:
Breeze currently has a set of colors used for mime-types icons but the
distro/user could like to set a different "green", a different "red"
etc. Something like:

Folders color: #012abc
Blue: #49ccc1
Light green: #...
...

So for example a color theme could set less vibrant colors for folders
and mimetypes, that it's the main complain about Breeze icons.

Anyway I currently don't experience any issue and the colored folders
look like a big improvement for my setup.

Important note, Andreas: the new folders icons haven't the light
gradients, so now they look flat, but Breeze is not flat. If the
colored-folders feature will be kept, it would be better to add the
light.

Colord-kde is specifically for loading ICC profiles. Kgamma doesn't

useless since you will not try to setup values manually because of few

KCM/colord-kde and it's KF5 release

2016-06-20 Thread Alessandro Longo

Hi, I hope this is the right ml to talk about KCMs.
I tried to install latest stable release (0.3) of colord-kde[1] to
manage icc color profiles, but the KCM isn't loaded in SystemSettings. I
can launch it with `kcmshell4 kcm_colord` but not with `kcmshell5
kcm_colord`. So I tried to compile it from git[1] and it works, it's
shown in SystemSettings correctly.
But since it has to be installed in offices, I'd prefer to use a package
by the distro. Would it be possible to release maybe a 0.3.1 to support
current SystemSettings and make distributions update their colord-kde
package? I hope this is the right way to fix the issue.

I didn't bypassed the VDG channel, I sent the email to visual-design

Recently the VDG "officially" said that KDE logo has to be replaced by
Plasma one (in a bug report iirc) and someone replied that the VDG

important. So I think I did the best thing to use both the mailing

About the fact the Sun logo looks like a gear if used as icon for
kickoff: you are totally right, that's why I'd suggest to use a generic
icon for kickoff, not because of the Sun logo, but because I don't like
the tradition to use a logo into the product itself (it also makes
questions: it should be used the DE logo (Plasma one), the community one
(KDE logo) or the distribution one? That's why I suggest to avoid this
decision and simply use a generic "apps" icon). If generic "apps" icons
will not be used, I totally agree with you that the Sun logo shouldn't
be used in monochrome as kickoff icon.

Re: Review Request 126319: Plasma 5.6 "Graphite" Wallpaper

2015-12-22 Thread Alessandro Longo
Every time that you release a wallpaper I think: "oh, OK, this is the best
wallpaper ever, even the next won't be better than this!" and every time you
surprise me with a wallpaper better than the previous.

This time you impress me again, this wallpaper goes exactly in the direction I
wanted for Plasma! It's professional, has unique style, it's an art
masterpiece.

I want it for Plasma 5.6. Absolutely.
