If you are using bluetooth to connect the mobile to the pc, then you would need to install the packages matching bluez, obex and kbluetooth. A step-by-step guide is at http://www.integrasoftware.it/index.php?option=com_contenttask=viewid=84Itemid=2 Once rfcomm is set up, KMobileTools (or others) could be set up using /dev/rfcomm0 to send SMS or use other mobile services. Of course, simple file transfers could be done using obex utilities, like the K Bluetooth OBEX Client, even without rfcomm setup, but for SMS and few others, it is a must. -- regards, |Prashanth| http://munichlinux.blogspot.com -- __ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List: (plug-mail@plug.org.in) List Information: http://plug.org.in/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/plug-mail Send 'help' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for mailing instructions.
Fwd: [PLUG] Ubuntu edgy
From: Nishit Dave [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Mar 19, 2007 12:04 PM On 3/19/07, Ranjit Bhonsle [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello to all, In recent times I don't see any talk about distros. Nobody posts any install experiences. I have been unable to install Ubuntu edgy for some time. The problem arises due to PCI graphics being not properly configured in Ubuntu. My Kubuntu install did not have Firefox to start with. The DVD does help as most of the software is there. It's called distro fatigue. There comes a point in time when people start to look beyond bragging rights about successful install and driver insertion, and want to get some work done. You've nailed it about Ubuntu - the CD will obviously not carry all drivers etc. You can also try Knoppix 1.1 or Mandriva 2007 according to your deb / rpm inclination - both work rather well with minimum fuss about drivers, as they have less of a politico-philosophical constraint. I was surprised with the Knoppix Live DVD - it booted fairly quickly, detected the default internet connection, recognized hardware, and let me create a pretty little card for my daughter in Tuxpaint on my Lenovo R60, all in Live mode. It may have some stability issues though, as it includes more of the cutting edge stuff and is not as thoroughly tested as Fedora / Ubuntu. I also needed to reboot the computer once and pass the necessary resolution parameter at boot time for the LCD. Another irritating aspect was the way sub-levels of the start menu take up the whole screen, and fonts need to be tweaked in all distros except Ubuntu to keep eyes from watering. By the way, is it just me, or does this list bounce slightly longish mails only selectively? -- __ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List: (plug-mail@plug.org.in) List Information: http://plug.org.in/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/plug-mail Send 'help' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for mailing instructions.
[PLUG] Re: Open Office in Government
Hi Manoj, 'Grahak Raja Jaha Ho' is ready to take your issue seriously.. I am very glad to see your support in this movement. We can come together on this issue and I am sure we will find many open minded people who want to actively involve in this mission. 1) To get all information about funds spend for purchasing MS Office Licenses during the financial year 2006-2007. We can get this information by using Right to Information Act 2005. To start with we can collect the information from Pune District. I was also thinking in the same direction. But I am not aware about how receive required information from Govt under Information Act. If you help us then we can certainly seek the details of govt expenditure on proprietory softwares. 4) We can file a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) asking Why Government is spending Crores of rupees on MS Office Licenses when Open Office is available for free. YES.. You are right. We must knock the door of the court of law. But its a long process and will involve some level of expenditure. So somehow we will require to build the funds for this social cause. I think its more advisible to discuss this issue in the PLUG monthly meeting. Why don't you come for the PLUG meeting on 07th April 07 at 4 PM? We can have views of many PLUG members there and the I am sure our discussions will be fruitful. Thanks. regards, Anand Kulkarni 9422515760(M) --- Pramukh Pracharak - Grahak Raja Jaga Ho [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello Mr. Anand Kulkarni I read your post regarding Open Office in Government Organisations. And I fully agree with you that government should not spend public money for purchasing MS Office Licenses when Open Office is available for free. We are running a Non Government Organisation 'Grahak Raja Jaga Ho' working in the field of consumer awareness awareness about Right to Information Act. 'Grahak Raja Jaha Ho' is ready to take your issue seriously I find following plan to force government organisations to use Open Office. 1) To get all information about funds spend for purchasing MS Office Licenses during the financial year 2006-2007. We can get this information by using Right to Information Act 2005. To start with we can collect the information from Pune District. 2) We can compile a report about funds spend on MS Office Licenses by different Government Organisation from Pune District. And I am sure the figure will touch at least 1 Crore. 3) We will get the report published in all News Papers / News Channels. This will help us to gather MASS support. 4) We can file a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) asking Why Government is spending Crores of rupees on MS Office Licenses when Open Office is available for free. We can have views of many PLUG members there and the I am sure our discussions will be fruitful. I request all of you to kindly consider using a blog for this. The suggestion for discussing it at your PLUG meeting is sub-optimal due to the following reasons: 1. It assumes that the subset living around Shivajinagar is a fully representative population 2. It assumes that all interested parties are free on Saturdays at 4 pm and present in Pune to attend the meetings 3. It assumes that enough people will be available at the meeting and follow-up meetings to provide momentum By switching over to an online forum, you ensure that all the people not falling within the three classes above can keep themselves informed and take part. Pledges of financial support can be made off-line if it is a concern. In this manner, we can spread the movement beyond Pune and attain better visibility. I was actually thinking of starting a blog for this myself, but I believe Grahakraja should take the lead. -- __ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List: (plug-mail@plug.org.in) List Information: http://plug.org.in/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/plug-mail Send 'help' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for mailing instructions.
