[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: LazySearch Problem

2006-03-13 Thread hickinbottoms

glen66 Wrote:

play, I get a different track to the one I've selected. It's always
 the same track as well.

Oh dear!

I don't think I've heard of anything quite like that. The closest I
know of is when you're playing an album that has a name the same as
another album, as SlimServer will assume the tracks from both albums
actually belong to the same album. Is that what you're getting? If not,
read on...

Which version are you using? I'm not sure that would be relevant unless
it's a really old one, but it might help me.

Can you describe the steps you go through to get this problem? Ie
something like: select album/track/artist search, enter three search
characters, wait two seconds, see x results, scroll down, press play.
I'm keen to know exactly what you did with the remote to get there, you
see.

Assuming it's a track search, when you play that track is the one you
get one with the same name (or very similar), or totally different?

You definitely shouldn't be getting that behaviour, though (unless it's
the same album name problem mentioned at the top - and then there's a
workaround if that's what you've got).

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC UK only streams

2006-03-13 Thread markand

I've searched for someone else having this problem to no avail, so here
goes.

The cricket commentary on BBC 5 Live sports extra is one of those
transmissions only available to the UK. I don't know how it decides
where you're listening from, but trying to stream via the squeezebox
(V1) I just get the 'I'm sorry, only UK listeners' message. I'm in the
UK, my PC happily streams the same feed, but AlienBBC can't. (It's
happened with a couple of footie matches on 5Live as well.)

Anyone else got this problem, or know of a workaround?
Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SlimScrobbler Enhancements - LastFM Tagging

2006-03-13 Thread mwphoto

Hi All,

I've been developing some enhancements to SlimScrobbler so that it now
(optionally) sets the lastFM tags for each track played to be your
genre tagging (with some configuration allowed).

At present it's more like alpha code and it only works if you
background submit (so it's not good for dialup). I am also not sure how
it would work (if at all) when listening to streams. If I'm lucky it
will do nothing which is the correct behaviuour, if not it will crash
the server.

Can I get some feedback on how interested users are in this feature. I
am not releasing code yet as I want to watch it in use for a while, at
least until I know it's stable even if not bug free.

Just tell me what you think. . . .

Malcolm

To see what tags it's been applying you can go here
http://www.last.fm/user/mwphoto/tags/

Interestingly I've accidentally created a tag 'malcolm#1' that doesn't
seem to be editable or accessible in any way.

It's not my bug so I don't think I can change it.
But any fix will apply equally for all OS X versions I'd assume.

I don't think this is really an OS X problem anyway, the iTunes scan is
just as bad on Windows.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SlimRemote - a remote control application for PC and PDA

2006-03-13 Thread mherger

After having mentioned it once or twice I'm now happy to announce the
SlimRemote application. My idea was not to create just another Moose
(which is doing a great job on Windows), but something I could run on
Linux and my PDA, too.

SlimRemote is slim. It does not have much logic besides the GUI and
relies heavily on the CLI (thanks Fred and Jeff!). This allows to
easily browse large lists even on a PDA. Every list (artist, song,
album, genre) is searchable. There's a now playing screen with cover
art, a clickable progress bar to jump within songs etc.

It is implemented in a javaish language called Ewe
(http://www.ewesoft.com/). I've uploaded a binary for Windows and a
universal .ewe file for all other systems. Get it from my site:

http://www.herger.net/slim/detail.php?nr=912

Ewe Runtimes are available for Windows, Linux, PocketPC, MS SmartPhone,
Sharp Zaurus (very important ;-)), Java and some more. I'm sorry,
there's no Nokia 770 runtime (yet? There has been some talk about
it...), nor MacOS.

Have fun! Any comment is welcome.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze refuses to play some songs

2006-03-13 Thread pablolie

I have downloaded Softsqueeze from the Slimserver 6.2.2 menu. For some
reason, it refuses to play some 320K MP3s that neither Slimserver (and
the SQB3) or WMP have any problems with. There is nothing wrong or
outside of the ordinary about the songs, but Softasqueeze will just
plan refuse tp play them. They'll show up in the menu, they'll never
start playing. What could cause this?

2006-03-13 Thread govardha

I just wanted to post an update for other people searching on this
particular problem or something similar.

I followed James's instructions and did the following
- Disabled automatic scanning through the Server Settings options by
changing the time counter to 0.
- Using the Rescan Music Library option I have enabled it so that it
runs that at 10 AM.

Things seem to be working ok. Perl is not hammering my system and I
have played a few tracks. More udpates to follow.

James :

- I am not sure about one of the choices in James's iTunesupdate
plugin. It says, I can do a Direct Update, I have set up my SServer
to come up automatically on a reboot, do I have to enable this or not?

Thanks,
Gov

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: New WeatherTime Screensaver adds graphical forecasts

2006-03-13 Thread OperaBen

Hi,

Thanks for this great plug-in.

I have a couple suggestions though:
1. I am using 12 hours(AM/PM) in the date/time format. With the current
font size, the complete date information is too long to be displayed on
the player screen. And there seems to be no scrolling function, so I
can only see something like this:

9:30 AM 03.14.200

This is kind of stanrge looking. Is it possible to add font size
adjustment or text scrolling?

2. Since this is a screen saver, I guess it is supposed to be
non-static (at least that's how I intrepret a screen saver to avoid
making permanent imprint on the screen). Is it possible to make the
screen display scrolling or refresh with non-static information? I am
just thinking that, in area like Southern California where you have
sunny day alomost everyday, the weather icon will be the same most of
the time, will it make an imprint on the screen? :-)

I am anxious to see if I can get this running on my ePods
(http://www.geocities.com/epodsfiles/index.html), which runs WinCE
V2.11 (very old) on a MIPS CPU. Currently, I run a version of the
handheld skin (you developed that, didn't you?) which I have made some
mostly cosmetic modifications to so that it takes advantage of the
large screen and many colors supported on the ePods ... it looks great,
but Internet Explorer (V4) performance on the ePods is very poor ... I
am curious to see how this compares.

I tried installing the MIPS version of Ewe, it installed but wouldn't
run (getting the Cannot find Ewe or one of its components error).
I've posted a question on the Ewe forum to see if I might be able to
get this working. If I do, I'll let you know how it looks/works!

Does SlimRemote use the SlimServer settings for
album/artist/compilation behavior? I tried it out on my PC, it worked
fine but seemed to be showing me all artists on compilation albums even
though I have SlimServer set to group compilation albums together and
list albums by band (and have the compilation tag set in my WMA
files).

2006-03-13 Thread FortFun

I can't get anything but the exit key to work on my windows smartphone
and the window size is a bit too big.

Otherwise it updates correctly and displays a portion of the album
cover.

I'm switching to a pocketpc soon so its not a big deal but I saw this
on the EWE forum and it might apply. Not sure if this is something you
want to tackle but here it is...

...you will have to change you GUI to be Smartphone aware. Smartphones
do not generally have touch screens so if you are in a situation where
the cursor key cannot navigate to a button, then the Smartphone user
will not be able to activate it.

Remember you can simpulate a smartphone on your desktop by using the /s
option with the VM and in your code you can use Gui.isSmartphone value
to determine if the application is running on a smartphone.

Basically in the code that is creating the forms look at the variable
Gui.isSmartPhone. If it is true then you should re-arrange your Form so
that it fits better on the small screen - probably double line your
input fields and don't put multi-line text inputs (since they capture
the up/down keys and won't let you switch to another field).

Also you would then want to use the softkey menu system instead of a
menu bar or a set of buttons to accept commands.

Actually - generally the way you would write smartphone applications is
so different (in terms of UI) that you may want to have two versions of
the application to cut down on the size of the application classes
(otherwise half the UI code would be used on one platform and the other
half on the other platform).

Also - if the user says that he can't get the cursor keys to work even
though they do work using the '/s' options - then send me the .ewe file
and I'll confirm on my smartphone and maybe find out why it may be
working differently - I've always found it to work the same on my
smartphone as with the '/s' option.

Maybe I am doing something wrong but it appears that smartphone support
is someting you have to code differently. Correct me if I am wrong.

Looks really cool..nice work! Can't wait to try this out on my new
Cingular 8125 pocketpc!!

Thanks!

am curious to see how this compares.

I'd be interested, too. There's a big difference between my Pentium M
1.5GHz and the Zaurus. But it's mainly the GUI that is redrawn slowly. As
most of the search and browsing logic is done on the server, speed in
navigating through the music collection mainly depends on the latter, not
the client. I experienced big improvements when I moved from SQLite to
MySQL (about 30% faster response times on a Via C3/1GHz).

I've posted a question on the Ewe forum to see if I might be able to

Thanks for doing so. Michael (Ewe's author, not me ;-)) usually is pretty
quick in answering questions.

Does SlimRemote use the SlimServer settings for

I don't know... I'm using the CLI, just telling the server to give me the
list of albums, or the list of tracks for a given album etc. It's the
server which decides what I'm getting.

I don't quite follow. I think it's time I'm buying a compilation album of
