There seems to be some kind of bug. However, I'm not sure if its in
 Slimserver or the Sirius plugin.
I'm not an expert on how Slimserver buffers everything, but with local
mp3s and wma files it has the entire file to read ahead and buffer.
With a stream it does not have this luxury. SlimServer does offer some
stream buffering settings, but depending on your decoding/player
settings I don't think they always apply. There are a lot of variables
at play here.

But like I said before, the plugin just retrieves a URL to stream and
hands it over to SlimServer to play. From that point forward playing
the actual stream is all handled by SlimServer.

The only possible thing that could impact the plugin/slimserver is if
whatever source you have selected for song title info is down/hanging.
Although they're async calls there are times they can cause SlimServer
to hang. If this were the case though you'd probably have hangs/pauses
greater than 10seconds...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: InguzEQ / InguzDSP room correction

2007-09-07 Thread inguz

There are some advantages to a quiet sweep
- avoids overloading the mic/input (although as long as the recordings
stay below clipping that should never be a problem)
- reduces heating-based and other distortion in the loudspeakers
(generally); I think most speakers are more linear with low-level
signals than with high
- keeps friends neighbors from calling local enforcement
officials...

On the other hand, background noise becomes more of a problem. With
very loud spweeps there's a distinct risk of blowing tweeters, too.
Hence my recommendation to set volume by playing the pink noise test
signal at a level which sounds loud but not uncomfortable.

I've tinkered around a bit with trying to understand how
sweep-triggered noise (harmonic distortion, rattling china, etc) affect
the measurement of the impulse response, but haven't come to any good
conclusions yet. I tend to think that booming (resonating cabinets,
etc) is OK since it's pretty much a linear effect, where rattling is
probably undesirable.

I'm thinking it must be a bandwidth/SSH issue. The plugin basically
simulates a user logging in, selecting a stream, and getting a URL for
that stream. That URL is then handed over to the player or SlimServer
(depending on your configuration) to stream. SlimServer then handles
the stream the way it handles any other stream. If stuttering is
taking place its probably your connection not being fast enough or
maybe the SSH processing is slowing things down.

downgraded did you completely delete your installation directory or did
you install on top of 7.0? There could be some 7.0 plugins floating

Downloaded TimeSpeller, extracted contents, put contents in pluggins

think. I don't see any options for timespeller.

TimeSpeller (as MusicInfoSCR) are screensavers. You'll find them in the player
settings, screensaver list.

Well, there was a fair amount of rattling. The other indicator was that
I was running at a voulme that I never use when listening to real
music. Guess I should back it off and try it again!

I tried several sweeps at different level, at normal listening volume and
quieter, and it did not seem to make any difference. I also have a major
ground loop while recording sweeps which adds 50Hz hum to the reference
channel which is nearly as large as the signal. This also does not seem to
affect the impulse response.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Remote key remapping guide for dummies?

2007-09-07 Thread Skittler

Is there such a thing?

I couldn't find anything useful in the Wiki.
Occasionally the odd mention of a remapping line appears in a forum
post, but without any real explanation of why it works.

Does anyone know of (or is anyone willing to create a Wiki section
about) an 'assuming no prior knowledge' guide to key remapping, and
especially how it relates to control of 3rd party plugins?

Maybe I should explain a little more.
I am aware that if the unit is switched off and then back on it will be
ready at the last played point. What I want is that after you switch to
one of the digital inputs or pandora, afterwards you can go straight
back to what you was listening too beforehand.

Toby, was there any point at which the volume was so loud that it
started a whole lot of stuff rattling in the house (listening room)? I
suspect that if that was not the case you would see no real difference.

2007-09-07 Thread esbrewer

Just noticed the references to the DSP software running on OSX. Are you
close to finalizing a Mac version Inguz - or has someone taken your work
to this point and worked it out on their own?

My first child is on the way, and I'm currently keeping an older XP box
(1.3 Athlon XP I think) running in what will become a nursery, for the
sole purpose of running DSP. But the clock is ticking...

I use an older G4 PowerMac as my primary computer - and would love to
move SlimServer and DSP back on to that machine ASAP. Running two
machines is a hassle, but the DSP works so well for me that I can't
give it up.
