You can add them in Settings/Interface: it's a bit cumbersome, but you can
add those tags to the list of title formats, one by one (enter tag name,
Apply, next).

I just tested it in my own setup and it works perfect here. From the
log file it looks like it gives up after 1 second, I suppose you have
set the radio timeout higher than that ?
Maybe SqueezeCenter needs to be restarted for the changes to take
effect ?

Are you sure your SqueezeCenter computer actually have internet access
?

Are there any other network specific settings ?
As an example, have you configured SqueezeCenter to go through a web
proxy in "SqueezeCenter Settings/Network" ? If that's the case it might
be a problem because I don't think Custom Scan at the moment will use
the proxy setting.

Are you playing music at the same time as you perform the scanning ?
Maybe that can cause problem ?

Is there some way you can try to get the following url in a web browser
from the computer you are running SqueezeCenter on ?

Code:

  http://ws.audioscrobbler.com/1.0/artist/Metallica/similar.xml

The plugins are dependent on each other, but I don't think it should
cause these problems you are seeing. Specifically TrackStat provides
information to the Dynamic Playlist and Custom Browse plugins and the
Dynamic Playlist plugin also provides information to the Custom Browse
plugin.

Custom Browse has an option in its setting page called "Menu position"
that controls weather it appears under "Extras" or "Music Library", if
the crash caused the preferences file to be trashed this might explain
why it behaved differently after the restart.

If you are talking about the timeouts you got from
AlbumReview/Biography, these shouldnt't cause any problem with my
plugins.

The timeouts studley saw is related to the Custom Scan plugin and its
LastFM/Amazon scanning modules. If you use these scanning modules
SqeezeCenter web interface will behave pretty sluggish/unresponsive
during the scanning process. The automatic scanning process of the
LastFM/Amazon modules in Custom Scan is disabled by default, so you
will have to start them manually.

At last clarity.

AlienBBC is working as intended. Search the forum for many reports of
this behaviour.

There is a restriction in AlienBBC so that it only works with
Squeezebox and Softsqueeze clients and not stream.mp3

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC passes test but fails to play in SS

2008-02-21 Thread castalla

Using VLC player in windows it's possible to connect to the slimserver
... this plays whatever selection is set in SS as a network stream.
I've tried with some other stations and they play okay.

In SS there's an option to use Softsqueeze (as a java applet in the
browser). This does play the BBC streams.

So, the BBC streams play on one application but not another.

But they don't play on the media player.

Please open a bug about this. Bug 7158 addressed a similar problem

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC with SC7 on Ubuntu not happy :-(

2008-02-21 Thread retmana

No worries guys, I've sorted this now.

I got a little suspicious over the mention of FLC codecs in the log, I
did a little more testing and discovered other stream formats (e.g.
Virgin) were using MP3 and working.

I did a little digging in /usr/share/squeezecentre/Bin
there's an i386-linux folder in there with some binaries for flac,
alac, sox etc.
I tried running the flac in there and got a file not found error - odd,
but I think that's because this is a 32 bit binary and I'm running a 64
bit O/S.

So, I overwrote the flac file in i386-linux with the 64 bit version in
/usr/bin/flac and now the BBC streams play properly.

Hurrah!

I guess this might help others running 64bit O/S's, but perhaps the
package is broken since it shouldn't have installed 32 bit binaries
really. Also, is there a better/cleaner way to relace/update these
addon programs?

Anyway, I can listen to the radio now, and finally chuck the Windows XP
server in a skip :-)

Many thanks,

Andrew.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC passes test but fails to play in SS

Can you paste the following URL into the Tune-0in box and see if it
plays.

rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/ev7/live24/radio2/live/r2_dsat_g2.ra

Many of the BBC menu have changed since 1.06 and updates needs to be
applied as some menu don't work. If the above URL works then it is
clear the problem is menus and not filetypes/mplayer.

1st impression: AlbumReview needs another change (see attached)
It's only one thing: added style = "max-width: 310" to the img. I have
big album art and that can be confusing otherwise.

Another issue that is not iPeng related: I get a lot of "Network

being "1").

Reloading a few times typically helps. Can I set a timeout somewhere?

2008-02-21 Thread pippin

Erland,

could it be something in your code causes some race conditions?
I just tried the new plugins on my svn installation and I was seeing
the following:
When I first started SC, CustomBrowse showed up under Extras (in iPeng)
with the default Albums etc. Menus removed.
Everything worked fine for a few minutes then I had what I would
describe as a complete crash (of SC).
The log only has entries about problems to connect to iTunes, iTunes
DID crash over this too, so maybe it has nothing to do with your
plugins, but:
After I restarted the server two times I got it up and running and now
the CustomBrowse and the regular menus are in the right places.

Since we are seeing timeouts in different plugins there might also be a
race condition in whatever starts the plugins on the server side so
maybe it's not a plugin issue at all...

Will post under beta, too.

There is a lot of timeout messages in the log which shouldn't be there
if the scanning succeeds. It could be something wrong with the code
that causes this, but I can't check it at the moment. But it can also
just be the timeout I mentioned that is set to short.

I would stop it, change the timeout and restart the scanning and then
look in the log and see if you still get timeout messages. If you get
timeout messages when you have raised the timeout, there is probably
something wrong with my code.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Are you saying that you do not see
anything wrong in the logs and it just takes a long time? If so, I
will be patient, but I just want to make sure I understand you
correctly.

Would you advise me to stop the process and increase the timeout or
should I just let it continue?

Thanks again for your help.

I don't think there is any idea to keep trying as long as you get these
timeout messages.

You could try to increase the "Radio Station Timeout" parameter in
"SqueezeCenter Settings/Network" and see if it makes any difference. It
could be that the LastFM calls takes a bit long for the default timeout
which is set to 5 seconds.

It's a known limitation that the SqueezeCenter web interface will be
unusable during the process, so that is something you just will have to
accept. There is currently no easy way I can solve this issue with the
web interface during the LastFM scanning process.

2008-02-21 Thread studley

Hi Erland, I've just installed your plugins for the first time with SB7
(I used it for quite a while with 6.5). I'm getting alot of timeout
messages during the scan for Last.FM data and I wonder if it isn't
something beyond the slowness of the process. I have yet to complete
this stage and when I woke up this morning after a full night of
processing, I couldn't access Squeeze via the web interface (IE cannot
display the web page). I cleared, re-ran and this afternoon the same
thing happened.

I am using a fairly recent (3 nights ago) version on Win XP. I have
attached my log (but deleted many thousands of the repetitive timeout
warnings (every 1.5 seconds?) leaving a sample of what has occured in
the last two days.

Any ideas? Thanks, David

Do you use pageheader.html oder iHeaderVert.html?
There's generally two solutions to this:
The way I do it, is to provide a "homeString" for the button text and a
"goHomeURI" for the URI to return to.
"storeReturnPage" is for NowPlaying to know where to return to. This
has two reasons: MobileSafari has a bug that sometimes prevents history
from working and there may be plugins that use a "call-through" page to
start a stream or load something and then history.back would just get
you back there, so storeReturnPage saves the URI to go back to.
For Browse pages there's also "storeReturnLevel", also with no
parameters, that stores the hierarchy, level and start parameters
(including values) so that it can go back up the right path.
Please note: You will still have to provide the URL for yourself, only
the start parameter is stored.
I see that you are using different parameters. If you like, suggest a
logic that you want supported by this function.

I've also been planning to automatically parse pwd_list for return
items in pageheader.html. Would that help? I do have that logic in
xmlbrowser but never included it in pageheader.html, but I can do
that.

I also experiment with including pageHeaderInfo there, displayed as an
"anchor" row. Could you make use of that? I see that you sometimes have
non-empty pageHeaderInfo's that only contain whitespace. These would
generate a few erroneous (pixel) lines, though.

I'm seeing this issue with "Albums" only. If I browse differently (e.g.
through "Decades") the view is correct.

It wraps on the iPod, too. The Win/Linux thing is only the server.
I can confirm that space is the issue since I do have one Album with
too long a name in the Display (Beethoven's Sympho...) that wraps
around. The difference between the installations regarding THIS issue
is different libraries.

I also notived, that the two icons are not perfectly aligned vertically
I believe due to different icon sizes (27x29 for the "+" vs. 25x27 for
the "M").

Thank you very much for putting this in Martin! I upgraded and
realized that I had modified two other things to make this date format
work properly. By default it doesn't quite fit in the display and gets
truncated on the right hand side. So, here's a patch that shows the
minor changes I had to make to get it to fit. Any chance of something
like this making it into the release? Maybe a new option for
specifying the time/date separator character instead of always
requiring the dash?

Again, thank you for such a great plugin!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AudioReview and Biography for new remote controls ?

2008-02-21 Thread pippin

Michael,

here's the modified skins.

Now we've got two alternatives: either I distribute those with the next
version of iPeng or you update the plugins. If you update the skins it
would be nice, if you could register the plugins under
"additionalLinks.pluginsiPeng", in this case they would automatically
work with iPeng from version 0.3 on.
Otherwise I would use add them to the link table with the next
version.

If you want to make a common html file for iPeng and the defualt skin,
I think that's possible, but only with changes in the plugin code: you
would have to use the default iPeng classes instead of the manually
defined CSS styles in the code. I cannot just override the default
values since, as you can see from the differences between the two
files, depending on content they have to look different to look good.

What I did, in short:
Both plugins:
- Wrap the content into the contencontainer div - I had to do this
manually for Biography since the floating table for artwork for some
reason broke the container. Didn't happen for Album Review but I didn't
do too much testing.
- Add different color for text links. This is the only application for
iPeng so far where free text with links is being used. Normal iPeng
links are hidden since with iPeng you typically can click everything
and showing links would break the iPhone style guide.
- add iPhone-style links for the link lists (blue bar). Had to use the
half-block version for AlbumReview lists since the link does not span
the whole item there.
- break the link table apart for Biography to make one list.

If you want to use them right now, replace iPeng's home.html with the
one attached.
