So can anyone confirm or deny that Albums should be listed under the

Yes that looks great! I guess there are two options:

1) As you suggest, an SC plugin that can mediate the DACP protocol.
2) Take the TunesRemote (open) source code and reimplement the network
protocol, replacing the DACP calls with native SqueezeCenter calls.

Option 1 might be more widely useful, as it would allow iphone users to
control SC... Option 2 sounds like it might be easier though, I don't
know.

Use option 2.
a) iPhone users CAN control SqueezeCenter. There's three iPhone Apps
out there all of which have more capabilities than Apple Remote
b) Apple's interface doesn't cover a lot of the features/functions of
SC, especially the playlist handling, so you will end up with a pretty
limites feature set if you do option 1.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC on FreeBSD hints

2009-02-05 Thread mcrobbyj

I have now got AlienBBC working beautifully on a FreeBSD system, all
built from ports. There were a couple of minor issues I found, all of
which were resolved by searching the lists so I thought I'd collect
them in a single post in case it's of use to someone else.

On a clean FreeBSD 7.1 install:

1) perl 5.8.9 built from ports with default config
2) bash shell built from ports with default config
3) squeezecenter 7.3.2 built from ports with default config
4) mplayer built from ports with ONLY these options selected: RTCPU,
OCFLAGS, SIMD, IPV6, REALPLAYER LIVEMEDIA (I now know LIVEMEDIA is
not needed either)
5) reboot
6) Install AlienBBC from extension downloader
7) edit /etc/fstab and add fdescfs /dev/fd fdescfs rw 0 0 to
automount the /dev/fd device
8) edit mplayer.sh and change shebang to #!/usr/local/bin/bash as
/dev/fd/3 pipe did not work reliably with #!/bin/sh
9) reboot and away you go!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Android / G1 idea

2009-02-05 Thread tigersim

So Let's say we were to go for Option 2, and base it on the
TuneRemote app (which is GPL). Next step is to get documentation for
the protocol used by the SC7 web UI and the server. I presume this is
basic HTTP stuff, and is documented nicely somewhere! (Sorry, haven't
had a chance to look into SC internals yet... ;)

First step is probably to install the Android SDK which includes a G1
emulator for your PC. Get the current TunesRemote source running on
that, then start hacking :)

But why do you use different accounts for your computer and the

You should not even be able to sync the phone to your computer that
way, especially for anything purchased through iTunes.

The only idea I have is to file a request to Apple on this, they sign
apps for your account, I have absolutely no influence on their
 distribution scheme.

I downloaded it on my computer under my account with the impression
that it was a computer app. My son had created his own itunes account
when he got his Ipod Touch, of course using my credit card. If I had
known it was a phone app I would have done it through the Ipod account
he created to avoid this situation. If I can't resolve the issue, I
guess I'll pay for it again.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse Issue: Ratings

2009-02-05 Thread vilbs

HI there I am using the fantastic Custom Scan and Custom Browse plugin
to try and integrate my MediaMonkey tagged ratings. Using the test
Custom Scan Info in CB I get everything correctly ie Custom Scan Info
- ratingtag - RATING - List of Artists who have ratings...

However if I try and create a new menu I get nothing :( I have
entered...

Manage Menu - Create new menu -...

Menu Name = MM Ratings
Menu Group = empty
Menu sort order (1-100) = empty
Tag name = RATING
Sort tag name = empty
Sort by ARTISTSORT = unticked
Play all songs in selected custom tag = ticked
Only include on these players (empty = all) = empty
Exclude from these players = empty
Filename: MM_ratings_tracks.cb.values.xml
Customize configuration = use predefined

With the above all I get if I navigate to MM Ratings is nothing! No
tracks matched my criteria :(

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. I just know this is
an awesome plugin - once I can get it to work!!

Many thanks...

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Best for viewing classical music seperately

2009-02-05 Thread Murph

Hi folks,
It has been a while. My lack of posting is actually a tribute to how
well my Squeezebox is working. I do have a question though.

I am interested in thoughts on the 'best' way to treat classical music
separately from all other genres. I know it's an old question and my
searches have found some tools, such as Moose, in order to do this but
I remain unsure as to what is the best method.

Essentially, I want to exclude classical from my main list so it does
not come up during listening to all randomized. I enjoy all forms of
music but find classical just doesn't fit in when randomly playing
other genres.

Also, when browsing the classical list, I'd like to be able to do it by
fields other than artist. I won't get into the naming convention
dilemma for classical music as I mostly have that settled for myself.
Mostly...

In the spirit of helping oneself before asking questions, I'm going to
download Moose tonight to try it out first but all advice on plug ins
and methods of setting them up for this need would be greatly
appreciated.

You could set up separate tags, or possibly just make sure your genres

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse Issue: Ratings

2009-02-05 Thread erland

At the moment there isn't any good way to use the rating information
scanned with the Rating Tag scanning module unless you check the Write
ratings to slimserver option in the Rating Tag scanning module
settings. If this option is checked the MediaMonkey ratings will
overwrite any ratings in SqueezeCenter and this also results in the the
standard Ratings menu or menu template included with Custom Browse.

If you don't want to do this, you will need to do as you have already
done but you will need to select the Customize configuration option
when creating the menu. After this you will need to replace 'customtag'
with 'ratingtag' everywhere in the menu configuration XML.

erland thankyou for taking the time to reply and more importantly taking
the time to write the plugin!

I have already selected the write rating to slimserver but
unfortunately I couldnt find a standard ratings menu. Anyway your
second option worked! However one minor tweak is required which I
cannot work out. MediaMonkey uses a 5 star rating which is a bit
easier to filter between - is there anyway I can do something along the
lines of...

Any ratingtag between 0 and 20 display as 1
21 and 40 as 2
41 and 60 as 3
61 and 80 as 4
81 and 100 as 5?

That would be great - if not no problems it is already working well!

Kind regards and thanks again...

The Ratings menu works almost like this, so I would suggest that you
install the TrackStat plugin and have a look at the Ratings menu.

It might also be possible to try to set the Max rating value
parameter for the Rating Tag scanning module to something like 2000,
this should result in that you get ratings between 1-5 in the menu you
just created. However, please note that this will result in that
ratings in Song Info page and other places are shown as 2/100 instead
of 20/100, so I would suggest that you install TrackStat instead.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] TrackStat and Amarok MySQL

2009-02-05 Thread erland

Do you get any other errors the first time it tries to connect after
SqueezeCenter has been restarted ?

The Amarok integration currently only connects the first time, so I'm
not sure how it works if you for example restart CPU 2 but not CPU 1.
Could this be the problem ?

I assume you have entered the correct username and password in the
Amarok settings in the Custom Scan interface ?

Which version of the TrackStat and Custom Scan plugins are you using ?
Which version of SqueezeCenter are you using ?

If you are able to connect from CPU 1 with the mysql command, I don't
think the problem is on the mysql side, but to make sure you can check
the /var/log/mysql/* and /var/log/syslog files on CPU 2 to see if you
get any access denied messages in the logs.
