Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2011-02-11 Thread danco

It's looking as though my problem was just a glitch. Perhaps caused by
the upgrade to 7.5.3 and cured by restarting SBS.

At any rate, I first reported trouble after two different radio
programs stopped in the middle more than once with Please Sleep
confirming in its log that it had sent my machine to sleep. I am not
aware of anything I did to change the behaviour, but yesterday I
listened to several programmes without trouble.

As to your problem with your Mac not going to sleep, it's certainly
worth trying the suggestion made. You should also investigate what
happens if you remove peripherals, some of them prevent sleep. But my
experience was that I tried a lot of things, including resetting.
removing peripherals, logging in to a different account, and nothing
worked.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels

2011-02-11 Thread cliver

I still can't get the logging to show anything more than basic start and
stop actions.
However if I add the debug logging interface in the gui I get errors
displayed but can't copy them out.

Interestingly if I simply Open Capture Device through the gui with
debug logging interface open and the following..

dvb-t://frequency=84200 :dvb-bandwidth=8 :dvb-caching=300
:program=18560

This plays bbc radio 2 as expected but in the debug logging screen I
get the following errors...
libdvbpsi error psi decoder: TS discontinuity recieved 7, expected
0 for PID 18
I get about 22 of these for different recieved x, perameters and
different PID's.

My plan was to get a simple operation going with no errors and then
build on it until I got some failures/errors but it's giving errors
straight away.
What am I missing?

Just wondering if anyone has been able to play wma's locally in iPeng.

I'm guessing that the server should automatically transcode it to
something the iPhone can actually play, but iPeng just doesn't start
playing.

Works fine on my other devices (duet, boom and radio)

Is some tinkering with custom-convert.conf and MAC addresses needed? If
so, can someone please provide a little guidance?

Thanks in advance

I upgraded to iPeng 1.3.1 yesterday with my touch 1G and enabled
playback. Worked perfectly and I was a happy camper. At night I paused
playback and put the touch in standby (batt nearly full) just to see
the device completely run down in the morning.

Nonetheless I wanted to see if it was the same on my iphone 3G.

I charged the touch and synced ipeng with my pc. Then did the sync to
iphone.

After starting the app i went to settings. Now I am asked again to pay
for playback enabling?

Why? I already payed for it. Do I have to pay for all touches and
iphones run on my itunes account. That would be a first.

Can't say what power drain will be on the iphone yet.

Thx that worked.

Power drain happens on my iphone 3g as well. Another problem came up
again: being closed after updating its library, ipeng forgets
evertything on restart, i.e. updating again, wrong last player.
Sometimes operating instructions pop up. I have to wait ~ 2min. to be

As I had these bugs with 1.30 and later I previously had downgraded to
1.27 which was much more useful in this regard.

You will lose your data. You can re-sync but not restore from an iPhone
image again since that will erase the App data again.

Unfortunately, in the mean time I found out that this only works if you
enabled the playback in iPeng for iPhone not in iPeng for iPad.

I know I need a different solution for that transfer, I just don't have

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels

2011-02-11 Thread cliver

I have been messing with various stream formats.
Can you, or anyone tell me why

1. This works

vlc
dvb-t://frequency=84200 :dvb-bandwidth=8 :dvb-caching=300
:program=18560
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=none,acodec=mp3,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:http{dst=:8080/RadioStream.mp3}
:no-sout-rtp-sap :no-sout-standard-sap :ttl=1 :sout-keep

SBS play http://192.168.0.6:8080/RadioStream.mp3

I have had this running fine for several hours.

2. This Doesn't work...

vlc
dvb-t://frequency=84200 :dvb-bandwidth=8 :dvb-caching=300
:program=18560
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=none,acodec=s16l,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:http{dst=:8080/RadioStream.wav}
:no-sout-rtp-sap :no-sout-standard-sap :ttl=1 :sout-keep

SBS play http://192.168.0.6:8080/RadioStream.wav
or http://192.168.0.6:8080/RadioStream.flac (changing wav to flac in
vlc)

All I have changes is the format. vlc streams it ok but sbs can't read
it.
From what I can see this is more or less the format used when I use
TunerPlay plugin isn't it?

I can get an mp3 stream running perfectly for hours through the gui but
I can't get a pcm/wav stream to work at all??

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels

2011-02-11 Thread bpa

It sounds like the logging level is -1 or zero. You can add -v, -vv
, -vvv to the command line to increase logging level. I usded to
prefer changing the default logging level as then I do not need to edit
conf files and restart SBS.

From a command line - you could also try the --extraintf logger to
get an extra interface logger which is separate from GUI.

The default file logging level can be changed by starting VLC GUI. Then
from menu Tools- Preferences-Show
Settings-All-Advanced-Logging-Verbosity. Change it to 1 or 2 and
then Save. Now all future file logging will use this level of
verbosity. I think 3 had Debug messages.

Regarding the message libdvbpsi error psi decoder: TS discontinuity
recieved 7, expected 0 for PID 18.

PID is the process ID so this will change each time a process is
started.

The messages relate to the data stream from the DVB interface. Each
packet is given a sequence number (not sure about DVB but usually it is
a small number say 0-7 or 0-128 which restarts at zero when max value
is reached) and library which reads the packets from the DVB interfaces,
checks these number are in sequence. The messages indicate the some
packets have been lost - for example the received 7, expected 0 means
vlc got a number no. 7 but the expected packet was no. 0 so perhaps
packet no 7. was repeated or a groups of packets have been lost.

I don't know DVB technical details so I am guessing the following.
Assuming no error in libdvbpsi then the error is either
1. VLC is too slow reading data from DVB and has missed packets.
2. The DVB driver is losing packets
3. You have a bad DVB signal and packet are being lost.

You should check that DVB driver is up to date - go onto Hauppauge site
and compare runnign version against latest one.

If VLC is slow (possible memory shortage) - check with process explorer
CPU and memory usage.

While VLC 1.1.7 is latest release - there are beta version of VLC 1.2.0
available to test where some bugs have been fixed.

2011-02-11 Thread cliver

Thanks for all this bpa..
Just tried setting vorbosity to 3 (I tried -1, 0, 1, 2, 5 and 10
before)
It seems you have to have the debug logging window open in the gui at
the same time or no data get written to the log file.
Now getting plenty of data in log file from a short run using the mp3
stream from my earlier post. There are a lot of error messages and this
stream seems to work fine ?-). In fact it is too big to post @1.3M from
about 10 seconds runtime.
Anyway it works now :-)

It sounds from your desription as if VLC is missing the first few
packets as it throws a series of PID errors then settles down and
streams nicely (using mp3).
I updated the hauppage card driver not long ago through dell suport as
the hauppage driver didn't work.
Will look to see if an update is available but I doubt it.
Signal seems fine once it starts streaming and listening localy.
I have 8GB RAM so hope it isn't memory. Looking at Process explorer all
looks ok.
I'll look at beta vlc versions to see if anything relevant has been
fixed.

Now.. any idea why I can't get a wav stream to work through the gui as
in my last post?? I don't see whay the mp23 one works but the wav one
doesn't??

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels

2011-02-11 Thread bpa

You can open the logger window without a GUI by using the -I dummy
--extraintf logger option this may only become useful if the vlc only
crashes without a GUI.

The main point of having a log file is to see whether VLC produces an
error messages before locking up and to see if a useful error message
is shown whenever you try to run vlc and it fails to play. So I think
the verbosity level of 1 is probably adequate and probably only the
last 100 lines of the log file may be all that is necessary to post.

Sometimes the PC vendors drivers are a bit out date compared to the
card vendor - Hauppauge show driver 1.47.29239 as being the latest.
It is unlikely to be RAM but 8Gb implies a 64bit system which might be
something to consider as causing s/w bugs. However if the
discontinuity message disappear - I wouldn't worry about it.

Regarding wav - it is not normal to stream wav. You need to use PCM
in another wrapper and not just http as a player cannot decode in mid
stream. The player doesn't know the format: no of channels, sample
rate and bits/sample as they are only sent once in wav header. - so it
is better to send wav raw as a file to the nul device.

Just a follow up from my perspective: I migrated to ReallyPreventStandby
from SvrPowerControl on 7.5.3 and latest Mac OS X (iMac, Intel).

It does work! Thanks for the update. It took half a day to work
properly, similarly to the problem danco posted - there seem to be
magic healing hands under the hood of OS X ;-)

Although ReallyPreventStandby in its current state does what I need, I
am wondering why you took the route developing a standalone app? As
posted previously here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=592731postcount=1507, an
AppleScript or shell command using pmset should have been fine as
well.

You could easily read out the current users energy settings and save
these, disallow sleep mode while playback (/usr/bin/pmset force sleep
0) and reset energy settings to saved values while players are idle.
It's also possible to control display sleep using pmset.

While evaluating ReallyPreventStandby I noticed that TimeMachine
actually uses this same technique. Just hit pmset -g in the terminal
while TimeMachine is running and you'll see that the backup process has
imposed a sleep 0 on the energy settings.

Just an idea...

 Just an idea...
I think what drove my design decisions with ReallyPreventStandby was
wanting to have it work as much like the stock Windows mechanism as
possible. Since the Windows implementation doesn't alter PM settings,
I didn't want to do that under linux or OSX either. Unlike the Windows
implementation, there didn't seem to be readily available perl bindings
to the necessary kernel functions. So I had to settle for executing an
external app.

But on the face of it, there would be absolutely nothing wrong with the
approach you suggest. ReallyPreventStandby would have to be tweaked so
that a one-time finally idle command would be fired off to put the PM
settings back again. And I actually have code stubs in the plugin to
handle this as I was thinking that I'd like to accommodate this
approach.

I think that there would have to be entries put in the sudoers file for
the inhibit de-inhibit scripts. RPS under linux already requires
this.

Perhaps you'd like to try your hand at a simple shell script that:

1). reads the state of the user set PM settings and outputs the correct
de-inhibit script.

2). sets PM sleep to 0.

The only danger in this approach would be if the user does a
hard-reboot of the mac or if SBS otherwise crashes. In those cases,
the user's PM settings will be lost. One way to mitigate that would be
for ReallyPreventStandby to always execute the de-inhibit script on
startup...thus restoring the previous settings.

Another issue might be: what if the user changes PM settings after RPS
has disabled them? Then the new settings are lost when the de-inhibit
script gets run. (Unless the de-inhibit script can sense that changes
have been made...and would then decline to overwrite them.)

Anyway...there seem to be a few wrinkles to this approach (unless I've
misinterpreted your intent.) Just doing an inhibit seems simpler for
the moment.

I may revisit this when the next version of Ubuntu gets released at the
end of April. Major chunks of Gnome are supposed to be chopped out of
the 11.04 Natty release. So my linux inhibit app may be broken there
anyway.

And who knows what Lion will drag in this Summer..

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-02-11 Thread rgro

Hi...

So, I'm a new user and have everything working pretty well. I have one
small issue, though. I tend to use my Music Folder to find most of my
music--just how I've got things organized. The little problem I have
is after I've selected an album to play and the tracks are displayed,
there are two slightly different page configurations that appear with
different results when attempting to play the album from start to
finish.

Configuration #1. On this page configuration, just above the little
album title bar---which is just above the first track---appears a bar
that says Play Shuffled and also displays the little shuffle icon.
When I quick tap the little album art icon on the first track, the
album starts playing and all subsequent tracks automatically play in
sequence. This is perfect.

Configuration #2. Everything else looks the same but that bar that
says Play Shuffled with the little shuffle icon is not displayed.
Tapping on the album art does not start playing the first track but
brings up the sub-menu where I can select from a number of options.
When I select Album from the sub-menu, it brings up all the tracks
again, and only then can I tap the first track which results in the
desired action---the first track plays and then the whole album plays
sequentially.

I cannot divine any reason as to why some of my albums come up with
page configuration #1 and some come up with configuration #2.
Obviously, I'd prefer that #1 is there 100% of the time.

Can anybody shed light as to if there's anything to be done to fix
this...is it a known bug or is there possibly something in my
configuration that's causing the inconsistencies?

Thanks!

Yep. Albums in #2 have subfolders or contain playlists.
This is kind of an SBS quirk and I filed a bug on it several ages ago
that's probably never going to get implemented :)

The problem is that, to work like #1, iPeng plays the whole folder and
skips to track X. The reason for that is that in the past there was no
such thing as play other tracks in album for folders. I'm also not
sure that works now.

Now if you play a whole folder that has subfolders, SBS
a) plays the folder plus all subfolders
b) the track order is undefined.

So essentially #1 doesn't work in that scenario.
What I would have to do is find out from which release on (if at all)
SBS supports play other traks in album and change this behavior.

It's part of a somewhat bigger makeover of my API usage that I will do
after I have added just _one_ feature to playback and after I've
implemented something else that has been developed months ago and is
lying around here waiting to be integrated while being just s cool
:)

But the workaround is: check your folder organization.

I installed 1.3.1 but found that iPeng has become quite unresponsive in
some areas: swiping from the 'now playing' screen to the 'playlist'
screen is very hard, and swiping back is almost impossible. on 1.2.10
 it was super smooth.

Hm. Interesting.
Could it be that iPeng is currently loading the current playlist while
this happens? I can reproduce it in that scenario, one the playlist is
fully loaded it seems to go away.

I'm not aware of any changes I did in that area, have to investigate.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: (not so) Sirius Plugin

2011-02-11 Thread flemming

Just a quick update. I've got logging in working and I can get the
channel list and I can get the preliminary stream info. The problem is
the streams have switched to RTMP which I think opens up a whole
different can of worms. It looks like the BBC iPlayer plugin has some
RTMP support that I can hopefully borrow, but I can't say for sure.

2011-02-11 Thread Thisildo

I recently installed iPeng to test it out with a friends iPhone. Great.
Trouble is, now I want to revert to the default interface but whenever
I try to access any of the server settings through the dropdown menu I
get a '404' error (specifically 404 not found:
settings/server/undefined - in the body element).

This is very frustrating. I've had a look around the forum but haven't
come across a similar issue. Any ideas?

Thanks. Yes I think it was the missing space that was causing 7.6

Good point, no it doesn't. I didn't think there were still people with

need your help later if I get things worked out testing for non-premium
access since in the past a few different parameters needed to be
 passed.

 Robert

From what I know, all lifetime subscribers do not get premium internet
access.
You have to pay $2.99/ month.

The fact that Sirius only offers crappy bit rate internet access (CBRIA
access) on their website makes me think they violate the spirit of the
lifetime access agreement.

2011-02-11 Thread ModelCitizen

Playback within my home wireless network on my IPhone G3S works very
well indeed, so thanks very much.

I was slightly surprised to find that if I closed the iPeng app whilst
music was playing and then killed the background process that the
stream was still playing when I restated iPeng some time later.

I'd like to add my vote for gapless playback. Unfortunately the first
music I chose to play was a mix album. :-(

Hmmmthank you! You put me on the track of something, but not quite
what either of us may have thought.

An example: I have a file folder called Flamenco. In that folder, I
have a number of albums. As a for instance, I have two albums by
Estrella Morente. The two album file structures are identical (just
tracks and cover art) in every respect except one. One album played
perfectly as in configuration #1 and the other one would only will play
in my configuration #2. The only difference in the files within the
album folder is that in the one album folder---along with the tracks
and art file---there is an M3U file and in the other album there is no
M3U file.

I certainly didn't put any M3U files in there...it appears it may be
some sort of artifact that ocurred in the ripping process to the VBA.
It seems to be causing iPeng to possibly read it as some sort of
playlist??? Why some albums have the M3U files in with the tracks and
others do not is a mystery as they were all ripped on the VBA appliance
with its auto ripper.

As you might imagine, there was an easy test and I can report that the
M3U files were absolutely the cause of the problem. Deleting the M3U
file caused that album to play perfectly in configuration #1. Unless
someone can tell me why I MUST have these little M3U files in the album
folders along with the track and art files, I plan to delete all of
them.

Yes I'm also using the winderful itach units and the iRule iPad app .

Works great.

What I want to do is to listen to volume control comands from the
server and use those to control my preamps volume over it's Ethernet
connected serial module iTach IP2SL This ethernet oto serial device now
controlls My meridian gear while another IP2IR does the Ir duty for
Bluray projector and DTV Box.

This way iPeng could controll my volume :)

http://www.globalcache.com/products/itach/models2/

Maybe a modification of the existing ir-blaster plugin could use these
modules instead of the SB3 headphone output ?

These units could be an alternative to ir blasting on the Touch ?
