Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2012-01-11 Thread soulgazer

Hi Triode

I can see I have the same problem as al2001 (which I mentioned way back
in: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=681213postcount=3661)
- have been testing for quite some time.

If I apply the password on the settings page I can perform the selftest
without any problems. But successive uses of the plugin from the GUI
doesn't work. It might be able to query the first time e.g. for
playlists, but when opening a specific playlist it comes up empty. So
maybe the helper stops after the first use.

If I go the settings page afterwards it says Helper app running but
it doesn't show the other info like Logged into Spotify, so I'm
guessing it's not quite running after all.

I've tried looking at the logs with the different settings, but am not
quite sure what I should look for. Please guide me to provide you with
relevant information - I would really like to get this working.

Best regards
soulgazer

than to rely on what MiP can read. Not that I noticed any problems due
to relying on MiP for the song data -- it just seems unwise to trust it
 if you don't have to.)

MusicIP is not only badwith funny characters in path\filenames, but
also fumbles on these characters in tags as far as I recall. Also it
doesn't handle multiple genre or other tags well. These are to me the
main reason to only get the mixable status from MusicIP.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SharkPlay plugin - radioSHARK player

2012-01-11 Thread bpa

There is no market for playing FM on PCs/Laptops. Chip makers and
products vendors stopped making new products about 5 years ago. New
products only address digital radio such as internet, DAB and DVB but
even now it is hard to find USB DAB products.

The only users who now need an FM USB solution are the DIY Car
Radio/audio builders.

When I started the plugin - I ended up buying 4 FM radio solutions - 2
TV/FM Tuner cards for PC, Sharkradio and a ADS InstantFM USB.

I needed a solution for Windows and Linux and only SharkRadio delivered
a reliable system.

TV Tuner cards (e.g. Hauppauge) were OK on Linux but couldn't make a
general purpose plugin for Windows as reliablility functionality
varied by card and Windows version.

Most of USB FM tuner solution are based on Silabs chips but at the time
I wasn't able to build a reliable support application and so I put all
my effort into a RadioShark based solution. There was an active group
developing for Silabs (see http://code.google.com/p/silabsradiodll/ )
but mainly Windows based and but activity stopped around 2008.

If you mainly listen to one FM station - I suggest buying an FM radio
and connect into the line-in port of the PC (or iMic for better
quality) and use the WaveInput plugin.

I have all of 17k+ songs and MusicIP just placed on coming up next a

All of the files have been analyzed with no problem... how would I

You're probably confusing file names with file tags. MIP has no issues
with tags, AFAIK. It has w/ files or folder names containing high-bit
characters.

Create a directory named Björk and add a few files in there. In SBS
MusicIP preferences, first line Use MusicIP make sure to select
'import all info'. Then MIP scan. Then clear and rescan SBS database.
Then have a look at the scanner log, you'll see errors. And you'll miss
every track from this directory in the SBS database (entry is there,
but no sound as if the file had been deleted)

As said by others, the workaround is to use Bjork instead of Björk
as folder name (same for file names.) Looking at the SBS scan log will
help locate troublesome files in your collection.
Also, since SBS +7.6 features a much faster scanner there is IMHO no
gain in importing all info from MIP anymore. Importing mixable status
only from MIP, and relying on the SBS scanner for all the rest is
better.

(Under linux I use the rename command-line to do this kind of work.
Combine it with find if you're brave. There are bulk renamers with
GUI also.)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SharkPlay plugin - radioSHARK player

2012-01-11 Thread bpa

If the underlying OS doesn't change - then the plugin should keep
working with new version of LMS possibly with some small changes. I
use it everyday for my wake up alarm as it provides a reliable stream
with better quality than the net stream for a local station.

Besides RadioShark2 - the other options are still a possibility if you
are willing to do some work testing and put up with some niggles and as
long as you are not using OSX. The work will depend on the device you
find.

It is not clear where you live nor the OS nor the system type (e.g.
Desktop, laptop, NAS) you are using.

Finding a suitable alternative USB FM tuner or PCI card is the first
step. I would stick to well known names so a quick google throws up
PCI card with FM tuner

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/461894-REG/ADS_Technologies_RDX_155_EF_Instant_FM_Music.html

These should work even if you are not US based.

The problem arises no matter how you do the scanning because MiP mixes
are created by MiP itself for delivery to SBS, and MiP won't include
any file that has a non-ascii character in its path/file name in a mix.

What different methods of scanning can affect is what files/info are
available in SBS once the scan is done. It depends on whether SBS scans
the file tags itself or gets them from MiP. I don't know about SugarCube
(yet), which appears to be what you're using, but for the Logitech MiP
plugin, in LMS Settings, go to Advanced|MusicIP. The first line on that
screen is Use MusicIP, and the two options are called Only read
mixable status from MusicIP (faster) and Import all song data from
MusicIP (slower).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP on Windows: Some lessons learned

2012-01-11 Thread bradcook

I've had, well still have, problems with Music IP and non ASCII
characters within tags.

Occasionally I've found that after saving the mixable analysis within
the mp3 files the tag information becomes corrupted - with the album,
artist, genre etc tags being set to spaces, which is damned annoying.

After much searching and head scratching I noticed that it was
happening only on those files that contained non ASCII charcters in the
tags. Now - I had assumed that I had checked and corrected the song
titles/artists to remove the non ASCII characters - but it was the
Composer frequently that caused the corruption (which I wasnt
checking).

I've also had problems with a trailing space at the end of an Artist
tag which also caused the same problem.

Hmm. That's bad. Are the tags corrupted in the files or just in the
scanned database? These are MP3 files? What tag version? I seem to
recall cparker recommending ID3v2.3 only. It's here:
http://www.spicefly.com/squeezeboxmip/51-adding-music-into-musicip-and-squeezebox-.html.
But he doesn't cite problems with MiP as the reason. It's more to do
with compatibility with Windows XP.

Is this really true? I always thought that the Headless database is

Yup, but the headless database should detect when there was a change in
the GUI and provide a button to reload the database. dpotts suggested
using the Refresh songs button, but this is a different button which
appears under the refresh songs button only when the database has
been changed. I don't know if there is any difference doing it one way
or the other. I think that refresh songs would only detect changes
with songs and perhaps not with filters and so on.

Good point. This was my understanding. I suppose I got this idea from
this wiki article
(http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Integrating_MusicIP_with_SqueezeCenter)
which says (in the section What is MusicIP?) that Headless is the
version that can be integrated with SC, as though the GUI version
can't be. And maybe that was true when the wiki article was written.
It's based on MiP 1.8, whereas the current version is 1.9.

But now that I think about it, the GUI Options screen has a Services
tab that allows you to define a services port (10002 by default, same
as Headless) and that lists various services the GUI can export,
including its API. And indeed cparker's instructions advise you to
change the port number and uncheck all the service boxes so as to avoid
conflict with Headless. In fact, my finding is that you don't have to do
this: just leaving the services stopped in the GUI is enough. But if you
start the services in the GUI (with the port number that SBS is
listening on), and stop the Headless service, then MiP mixes do get
created, and with the GUI's settings, not Headless's.

I'm glad to have my error corrected. :-)

It's still true, of course, that GUI and Headless maintain separate
databases, and you have to make sure when you do a refresh that you
refresh the database for the version that is talking to SBS.

all ok, but what happened lately iPeng is much more stable ? Than it
 ever have been for me.
Crashes are reduced by at least a factor 10 :)

Which one, the iPhone or the iPad one. I did not do any changes except
for stability improvements on the iPhone App for a few months because I
wanted the laster version for iOS 3 to be stable...

And I found (and fixed) the causes for two long-standing issues.

iPad is a bit less so, I'm afraid, there's that notification popup
thingy for Add to playlist and Add to favorites which is still
occasionally causing crashes, was a bit difficult to marry that with
the group control.
It's sorted now, so the next version will hopefully be stable again.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2012-01-11 Thread soulgazer

Manually deleted the old plugin folder and extracted v 2.0.4 to the
server.

The plugin seems to work fine now. Do I need to clean anything else up?
The settings page looks like the new one, so something is remembered
by the LMS.

Thank You for helping me out.

It's possibly already mentioned but I can't read through 400+ pages, but
does iPeng not support half-star ratings? ie. the equivalent of base-10
 ratings in LMS.

If you have TrackStat installed, you can use 1-10 for ratings from
iPeng. I use it all of the time. If you give something five stars (out
of 10), it appears as 3 stars in iPeng, but if you go into the details
you'll see that it's rated 5/10.
