Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] OSX Mountain Lion sleep issues
I am surprised you say the bug has been around for years. When I had Lion 10.7 my media server played fine. From my understanding ML took the sleep issue to an extreme and now LMS does not prevent sleep. I wonder if the problem is related to the lack of a PowerNap firmware addition that allows continued had disk function while sleeping on Laptops. Powernap is not available as yet on desktops. jdwek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56876 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95980 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

As I understand it, under ML hard drive activity does not prevent sleep. Previously, it was *supposed* to prevent sleep, but this worked for some people and not for others. danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95980 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

On Bugzilla you may have noticed that the original bug report goes back to 2008. Perhaps you have your idle timeout set quite long (mine is on just 10 minutes)? The problem originally was with the SB Server letting Macs go to sleep when the idle timer expires. This led third party plugin developers (notably Gordon Harris with ReallyPreventStandby) to step in. That plugin itself has not been ideal (on the Mac, repeatedly spawning a utility try and keep the Mac from sleeping) and Gordon has acknowledged limitations on this thread. Before Mountain Lion, the behaviour (most of the time) was that once woken up from sleep by a Squeezebox the server would stay awake until the idle timeout. Now with ML it seems that if the Mac was already in idle sleep then it will not wait another idle timeout period. Also, the scheme used by ReallyPreventStandby no longer works. So yes, more people are now noticing that LMS fails to tell OSX to stay awake while playing with Mountain Lion, but the fundamental problem has been around for a long time. Since OSX 10.6 developers have been given a simple way to indicate that the idle sleep setting should be ignored. Now with 10.8 this has become critical. To see what iTunes does while playing run pmset -g in a command window. nonnoroger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35581 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95980 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)
Hi Triode, I have had your app (and the official one) working as a charm since day one. Never had any problems at all, until yesterday?! Now nothing works at all, and I get different errors all the time so it is hard to do a good root cause analysis of the problem. Background: Have not changed or altered anything. I am running Logitech media server on a mac mini updated to Mountain lion a couple of days ago, so maybe that could be the error. I have an airport extreme as a router. The firewall is off (and has always been). I have two squeezebox duet and one squeezebox radio. One time i get the error can' play file type when trying to play spotify songs. The other time the track starts playing (no sound output though) and after between 3-5 secs it skips to next track. This continues and I can't even paus it. Need to soft-shut-down the player in order to make this loop stop. Also when doing this, the web interface for LMS becomes really slow. I have run the auto self test which gives me different answers randomly. It clears the four first steps (most of the time. Some time it says that helper app isn't installed, usually when the server response time is really slow) but it always fail on the last step, giving the reason that the player is unable to connect, or that it can't stream due to that always stream via helper isn't enabled. I have tried both changing port (between 9000 and 9005, which I have never had any problem with before. I have also tried checking and unchecking the always stream via helper (which has never been checked before). I have tried to uninstall both the offical and your app through unchecking them in the web interface, but I realize that this is not a full uninstall since it remember my login details when i check them again. I have then tried to install just one of the apps, then both, but to no help. I have managed to get the official app to work, but only on my squeezebox radio, not when trying to synchronize with more players (never a problem before). I have tried searching online, which is why I have done the above trial and error-things. I am therefore in a really bad spot, and would really appreciate some help. Any help, or tip, at all. If someone just tell me what kind of logs they would like to see, I will post them. I have gone through the log-reports myself but it doesn't tell me much, other than that it does not work (for some reason. Thanks in advance for any tip, clue, guidance or assistance that could help me out of this mess, that has created itself out of thin air. When browsing by folder structure, the server always rescans each folder anyway, so no need for a rescan, let alone a clearrescan. How do I start fresh from the root folder on iPeng? If I select Music Folder it just re-displays what was displayed before. I don't understand what you mean about the folder structure not being there. These are just files and directories on disc, they're always there. I can definitely browse folders up and down, I do this until iPeng crashes. I could do with a button that lets me quit iPeng, that would be a lot quicker. I use tags sometimes. Half my music is my CDs ripped which are all properly tagged. The other half is downloads of bootleg concerts, these are rarely tagged and if they are they're usually wrong. I have the daily rescan because I got sick to death of forgetting to scan after ripping a CD or downloading something. It's a pain needing to remember. My Downloads share is where torrents are moved to after they complete, so if the torrent completes I just have to wait until the next 6AM and there it is all scanned. As for the various caches, I wish they weren't there as they cause no end of trouble and often have to be flushed or manually deleted. I don't know why LMS bothers with them. I did not know that browsing by folder doesn't need a server scan. I thought it needed a scan to pick up the artwork. It certainly does if I change any of the artwork, it won't forget the old artwork until the next scan (damned caches again). My LMS is running on a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Windows Home Server V1 box with 2GB RAM. Performance is not a problem. Yes I first found the issue with BBCiPlayer. But of course it also happens when playing tracks from a local library on an external drive. Interestingly, the latest version of Get iPlayer Automator specifically states that on ML it prevents sleep while downloading. As for ReallyPreventStandby, I have now followed up my earlier posts, and have a shell script to prevent standby and one to permit standby once the SB is idle. I haven't fully checked with Activity Monitor or the like, but I don't think my inhibit standby script does repeatedly spawn a process. The trick is, yo check whether a process (my Dummy application) is already running, and to do nothing if it is. danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95980 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Owen Smith wrote: How do I start fresh from the root folder on iPeng? If I select Music Folder it just re-displays what was displayed before. I was hoping it would be enough if you re-start browsing from the root level. Just tap Music Folder twice. If not you might have to force-quit iPeng and restart it, see pallfreeman's comment on how to do this. I don't understand what you mean about the folder structure not being there. These are just files and directories on disc, they're always there. This is not how the Squeezebox Server/LMS works. And iPeng can't see your folders (they are on a different machine), it only sees what the server delivers. The server scans the library, including folders and such, stores it in a database and what it sends to iPeng are these database entries. Each file/folder is the identified by a number, iPeng never actually knows the path. If you Clear and Rescan the database gets cleared and all these numbers iPeng got from the server are no longer valid. That's why you can't play anything. You need to get the new entries from the server and you need to do so from the root level for them to be correct. In addition to this, the server scans each folder you browse into AGAIN and then updates it database based on this. The easiest thing to do is to stop doing these Clear Rescan runs every day. They are useless anyway if you use the folder structure and only cause trouble. I have the daily rescan because I got sick to death of forgetting to scan after ripping a CD or downloading something. It's a pain needing to remember. My Downloads share is where torrents are moved to after they complete, so if the torrent completes I just have to wait until the next 6AM and there it is all scanned. But you could do a look for new and changed music instead of the Clear Rescan. Then your database will never be cleared and the old entries stay valid. As for the various caches, I wish they weren't there as they cause no end of trouble and often have to be flushed or manually deleted. I don't know why LMS bothers with them. Because it would be unusable on slower systems like NAS which a lot of users use, without them. I did not know that browsing by folder doesn't need a server scan. I thought it needed a scan to pick up the artwork. Well, that is partly true. It will only pick up the artwork on the second time you browse there if you don't do the scan. The only thing for which you need a Clear Rescan is if you change folder.jpg files (or similar files in your music folders) without changing the actual music they belong to. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Owen Smith wrote: Done. I also noted while in there I have Native Music Folders enabled, the help text says this is a good thing but mentions possible problems. Is this what I'm experiencing? The possible problem is that for one (1) user there was an issue where music was stuttering when he played it using Music Folders because the server not only scanned the folder when browsing to a folder but also did so when playing a folder and this caused the stream to stall. It looks a bit like a problem on the server side, no idea what exactly caused it (it was an old WinXP machine with a fresh 7.7.2 installation), but since it was highly reproducible on his setup I added this option in case others experience the same thing. You could give it a try but I don't think it will help in your case. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

And that is something I do quite often ie. find some artwork for files without it or to replace incorrect artwork. I don't see what is wrong with daily rescans. If I just do the scans on demand, all that happens is iPeng can't play when I've done a manual scan. Not much different. Also I have a SqueezeBox Controller. I don't have any of these problems with that. How does it manage? Not much different. Also I have a SqueezeBox Controller. I don't have any of these problems with that. How does it manage? I don't know. The problem hasn't occurred to anybody else, yet, so I never looked into whether it's possible to distinguish a Clear Rescan from the incremental scan while browsing. Did you try the non-native menu? That should behave exactly the same as the controller. What does the Controller do, btw, when you do the ClearRescan? Does it back out to the main menu? pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
