Eureka, ASIO4ALL started showing up in my SLX player list again after I
installed an alternative, ASIO2WASAPI, which doesn't itself show up in
SLX (although other players see it) but maybe it fixed ASIO4ALL for SLX.
Or not. I have no idea.

To answer your question (or not), I use only USB, but ASIO is supposed
to work with all sound devices. So if that converter is your sound
device, then ASIO4ALL should find it and use it with no problem. But my
desktop PC has no sound devices other than whatever USB DAC I plug in,
so that's easy for me to say.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotty: playback of Ogg 320 kb/s

2021-04-18 Thread rootee

Can I have some clarification on the following situation:

I've got Spotify Premium, and streaming 320k Ogg Vorbis to Radio(s)
works great. However, when I try and seek into a track the stream is
then converted to 705k FLAC. Is seeking Spotty Ogg Vorbis not possible?
Also, I do notice a volume change from when a track starts in Ogg
Vorbis, then changes over to FLAC after seeking, so it sounds like
ReplayGain is being applied/de-applied in FLAC (I don't know which one,
likely applied because the volume goes down typically, and I'm listening
to newer 2021 albums, which seem to all have very loud gain settings).

File Type settings:

enabled/checked

Thanks Paul. I've put an inline sudo in front of the sed commands and
also changed the working path and download path into /tmp. Verified that
it all still works on a fresh pCP install

I tried a similar setup, current image from Raspberry Imager on a Pi3b+
with LMS 8.1.1 and I get kind of the same issue. Using local player I
cant get the player to stay running, it seems to clash with alsa and/or
pulse and I can't figure out why. If I start the bundled player from the
cmd and then restart LMS I get sound. Haven't tried updating the player
yet.

On the Ubuntu machine, intel based, I had to install alsa, add the
"squeeze..." user to the audio group and set the default alsa device.
None of these did the trick here.

Thanks. I use a cheap Topping DAC with an upgraded power supply. Does
the ASIO driver only work with USB connection? Or is it an add-on
software implementation? I use optical out from a USB to optical
converter. I don't see an ASIO option in the sound settings with the
converter. The Topping DAC is limited to 16/44.1 over USB but not over
spdif.

I found a clunkier solution compared to SLX for hires exclusive mode,
using Plex web mode to the Plex Media Player. It functions pretty well
but compared to the LMS/SLX with the material skin, it isn't as good of
an experience. I should probably upgrade my DAC, although it would be to
add more functions like ASIO, hires USB, and DSD. I am plenty happy with
the sound quality.

Just run the 3 sed commands with sudo. But probably not much harm in
running the script as root. Just be aware that tce-load cannot run with
root permissions, so be sure to preface with "sudo -u tc " if you
run the script as root.

The other thing I would change. Set your working path to

Thanks @paul-.

I'm just wondering if there would be any harm in always running the
ngrok setup script with sudo so that it will succeed when people have
managed to alter their standard pCP ownerships/permissions? Here's the

echo -e "--> Backing up changes using pcp bu.\n"

I tend to only use sudo when it's really necessary but this is the
second user who had this script fail due to a permissions error on a
'dirty' pCP install.

I didn't try that yet, since I didn't transfer all the settings yet and
I am somewhat too lazy/don't have time to do so at the moment. I just
wanted to have it running in docker for when the current one doesn't
work any more.
I quickly tried to do so and it failed for me as well (and I had to try
a couple of times to get it reconnected to my natively running server),
but that might have been because it was running two of them.

I unfortunately don't know why it failed, especially since it did
recognize my other server and my Squeezebox Boom in the webinterface.

I would be surprised that my setup has anything to do with that though.
I am sorry, but I don't really have time to mess with it too much at the
moment since I use it as my wake up alarm and it 100% has to work.
But it might have been because of both of them were running or something
like that.

I managed to connect it back to the old one by shutting down the docker
one and selecting reconnect on the Squeezebox Boom.

I went to the diagnostics Page and then Raspberry Pi, but did not see

Great! It works - from my point of view you can publish it to the
official 3'rd party repo. And me by myself learned something about 'sub

Thank you for this plugin Philippe! I never realized how much I would

Simple question - I know nothing about the You Tube Google API Keys. I
am setting up a LMS server for a friend. I can use the API Key that I
generated for my LMS instances (2), or, should I have him generate one
to use?

I would prefer to just use mine, as I don't have to remotely hand hold

Just for fun  I have had another bash at this, on raspberry PI
OS Buster Desktop

Installed LMS and Local Player, still could not get it to run

I thought about it and looked on the LMS Info tab

Code:

cd /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/LocalPlayer/Bin

  sudo ./squeezelite-armv6hf

That got it running , but it would not persist,

typing this remembered me and

sudo ./squeezelite-armv6hf &

worked, but still no sound

Thanks, I am starting to lean towards, it must be my PPC Synology box

Great. At lot of people with the Touch working says that you need to
play from Deezer in a certain way, what exactly is meant by that? I
choose Deezer from the menu, use search to find an album and then play
it. Is there another way to do this? Are you running the 7.8 firmware on
the Touch itself? Is LMS 8.1.2 a nightly, as I can only see the 8.1.1 as
the latest "official" one. Could it be my Synology box? It runs the PPC
version of LMS, perhaps it isn't supported in that build? I play flacs
just fine from my local library on the Synology. Just not from Deezer

Amazon seems to have a problem at the moment in their cloud function for
returning artist/recording names to the skill when parsing your spoken

a single value. It's not the skill's fault so I can't fix anything -
we'll just have to wait for Amazon to fix this.

Playback on the local machine will happen with any squeezleite player -
no need for LocalPLayer plugin. LocalPlayer provides payback using
direct access to files(directed by LMS) rather than LMS streaming.

The Debian Buster packaged Squeezelite is v1.8 something or other

The next Debian Bullseye is v 1.9 something

I have tried (yeserday) to install Local Player on a rapberry PI OS
Buster Desktop LMS would it would not install.

I installed the packaged squeezelite and update to Ralph's latest
version withou a problem (this is of course, not to say that there might
not be problems somewhere, but non have yet occured, fingers, crossed).

The first post of this thread defines Local Player :)

There is an option to turn local access on/off in the settings for the
plugin but its purpose seems to be, right now anyway, to enable playback
on a machine running LMS, which as per the description for the plugin
includes the player. I think the plugin will install the bundled player
regardless of a player being present on the machine or not but I can't
read the source well enough to tell.

As far as I can tell the plugin is getting updates, latest one in
october 2020, but I can't tell if the binaries are getting updated or
not or if it just using different builds from the ones Ralphy are
releasing, say without libraries to explain the significant difference
in size (139K vs 4M).

I think I'll go with Man in a vans suggestion until I know more as I
don't think Ralphy would spend years working on the player for no good
reason.

The issue is then with the /opt directory itself. But as I’m not a pCP
guru I don’t know what the permissions and ownership on that directory
‘normally’ are.

Maybe ask over at the pCP forum. Worst case, start with a clean pCP
install and do any other install stuff you recently did without the
sudo.

Sounds like some other startup script you are using has ‘sudoitis’ and
is undoing the chown. Try not doing pcp br after issuing the command and
run the setup script immediately while things are still owned by
tc:staff.

Many people use sudo for just about everything but any files handled
when a script is run with sudo wil subsequently be owned by root. Always
ask yourself if sudo is really needed.
