Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Classical music example with Custom Browse/Custom Scan ?

2007-05-21 Thread lyteroptes

Thanks to your help I have what I need in a very straightforward manner
though no doubt it could be further enhanced.

I use the composer, artist, title, album and track number tags only but
how they are used does depend on the type of piece.

For a multi-part work, eg. a symphony or sonata, then the album tag is
used to store the work name (eg. Symphony #1) and the artist is
appended to this in the form of conductor and orchestra though one
could use other artists involved such as a singer. Whatever helps
identify the particular performance really. Your basic 'composer' menu
then works fine for me. Jump to composer then scroll through the
works. The title should force the order of playing - it does matter
that the 4th movement doesn't come before the 2nd!

The obvious extension (or complication) would to add the the artists
tag as the next level down but I'm happy with this as I don't have that
many of the same works by different artists. I do complete the tag with
fuller artist info but I don't feel the need to browse by it.

For a single-part piece I use the title as the album name as well.
These often come from an artist's recital where several composers may
be featured on one album so one may want to access the recital as a
whole or find individual pieces by a composer. The first of these I do
by browsing the music folder as the recital will have been stored in a
sub-folder under the artist's folder. The second type of access, of
course, is as for the multi-part works.

As I say, I'm happy with this but I think I'll have to look at your
multi-library plug-in next as I have classical mixed up with jazz and
rock in the libray (though not on the disks). I've thrown away all
rock and pop composer info to thin down the menu but I find jazz
composers info useful - just need to split it up from classical.

Perhaps I should have also said that I use the SB3 menus almost
exclusively - I don't have a PC in the room with the hi-fi.So I don't
know anything about the right-click stuff.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse help please

2007-05-15 Thread lyteroptes

I've deleted re-extracted and created 2 folders for the config
templates. I tried to create a Composer menu using the defaults and I
do now get a menu again - it just doesn't match the data though I
realise this could be a database issue rather than CustomBrowse. I can
see that there are 4 album tags under 'Mahler' for 4 different
performances of a work (i.e. work+artist) - one shows up correctly and
the others don't - they just still show the original tag of just the
work and so are duplicated.

Perhaps I should delete and recreate the library? Well, that's what was
I'm trying now.

Clearing the library completely has sorted it - sorry for the red
herrings! Thanks for your support.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse help please

2007-05-14 Thread lyteroptes

Thanks, yes that's what I want but I seem to have tied things in knots.
Above I described overwriting the composers.cb.xml file with the
contents of the composers.xml in the templates folder. It did give me I
wanted briefly though the menu contents seemed out of date despite a
forced rescan or 2. It didn't stick either and composers.cb.xml
reverted - I can't repeat this either, the browser window just gives an
error when I try to save the file. The menu is now completely blank. I
thought I'd go back to square zero - stopping SS, deleting the CB
folder from plugins, restartting SS, stopping SS and re-extracting the
CB zip file but it doesn't seem to be 'clean' process and I can't get
back to the situation with CB installed and nothing configure.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse help please

2007-05-11 Thread lyteroptes

I wanted to be able to browse by Composer through albums. I added the
Custom Browse plugin (as well as few others from the same source) and
thought I'd followed the instructions to add the basic menu into the
basic menu. Sure enough a menu item called 'Composers' appears at the
level underneath 'Browse'. However underneath it is another browse
hiearchy with items for music folder, artists, playlists etc.

Assuming I'd misunderstood and/or messed up I thought I'd remove that
Composers menu but I can't see how to do that. Composers doesn't appear
as an item on the Custom Browse website nor under the 'Enable/Disable
menus' option nor even under the 'Edit menus' option.

Is there a way to rub all of this out? Thanks

OK - I can see how to modify the elements under the Composers menu. I
disabled all but albums but that's not what I want I think as that's
all that appears - just a menu item . Do I have to persuade it to scan
for the composer tags before the menu is of use?

Still can't work out how to get back to the original but I did manage to
re-add the Composer menu and replaced the XML with that in the templates
folder. It caused a browser error but seems to have done the job.
