I ended up rebuilding the entire stack. It works now. I still suspect
it was some kind of cache/corrupt file issue that the reinstall fixed.
Man, these PIs are cool, but sometimes unstable. :-)

Hi Michael, Love the app. Have been using it for years! I am having a
problem in that i can't connect to Spotify. I installed LMS 8 (and have
tried this on 7.9). When I go into add the account, my account is
already there. When I delete it, I get the sign in/up menu where you
connect to spotify. I have tried this with and without entering my user
name and password. What happens is that once I start playing something
and go into devices to authorize and select max2play, LMS switches the
screen back to the settings screen as if the connection has occurred,
but spotify hangs on 'connecting' and the connection never occurs. I've
tried this on my PC and phone. I've also reinstalled LMS and the
plugin. Is there a cache for spotty that I can clear or set of files
that I can clean up to start over? Even when reinstalling LMS, your
plug in is there and if I take it out and reinstall, when I add the
plugin, my account shows up so I suspect there is some kind of file
corruption somewhere. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Band's Campout 1.7

Thanks Michael! LOL... I do own the album. It's my band! I'm a
massive supporter of local music, hear you loud and clear and agree!

Thanks for clearing up the bitrate limitations. I would actually stream
a high a quality as I can get. I'm lucky enough to live in an area with
gigabit service. I think most people wouldn't though and it'd be great
if bandcamp would allow 256 or 320 but being able to connect is still an
amazing thing. Thank you for all of your work!

Hi,

First, I love this plugin!

Next, crazy question. My band posted a .wav file on bandcamp. When I
use this plugin, it says that it's streaming at 128kbps. Is there
anyway to increase the quality of the stream?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotty file formats - I'm a little confused

2018-08-24 Thread wmupchurch

Thank you Michael.

I think I understand, but just to make sure. It seems like Spotify uses
Ogg Vorbis, but does not pass through the information needed to
uncompress the file back to it's original form (I think that is
possible; they just don't to it), therefore, when Spotty uncompresses
the file, it does expand the 'container' to FLAC or PCM, however the
'container' is only partially full. Said another way, the pipe is FLAC
or PCM, but the sound flowing through it is only 1/3 full (320 vs 1440,
etc.). Or even another way, Spotify provides the music that is
compressed to 320kbps and since they don't (but should!) send the
information necessary to fully uncompress it, converting the music to
FLAC or PCM means the format is different, but the quality is the same.
If that's true, please let me know. Fascinating if so.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotty file formats - I'm a little confused

2018-08-23 Thread wmupchurch

Thank you Michael!

So let me now ask a really crazy questions. It seems that Ogg Vorbis
(lossy) compression can or cannot contain FLAC or PCM (lossless) music.
If that's the case AND Spotify uses Ogg Vorbis in a way that FLAC and
PCM information is 'contained', then when you un-compress the Spotify
Ogg Vorbis steam to FLAC or PCM are you really providing better sound
quality than Spotify itself? Is this some kind of back door way to
finally get higher quality streams from Spotify?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotty file formats - I'm a little confused

2018-08-22 Thread wmupchurch

Hi,

first of all thank you for Spotty!

Now my confusion.

If is disable FLAC, when I play songs I see this: 1411kbps CBR, Ogg
Vorbis (Spotify) (Converted to PCM)

When I enable FLAC, I see this: 705kbps CBR, Ogg Vorbis (Spotify)
(Converted to FLAC)

I though FLAC was the highest quality lossless option, but it is
actually using less bandwidth. I guess I think the highest quality
option would use the most? Or am I reading that wrong?

Honestly I'm not exactly sure how it all works. Is this happening?>
Spotify sends 320kbps Ogg Voris to LMS/Spotty, which converts it to PCM
or FLAC depending on the options enabled in the file type settings? Is
Spotty always transcoding? Does that potentially add coloration to the
original signal?

I'm using LMS with Max2Play with a HiFiBerry DAC and am looking to
optimize audio in any place I can so my question is what is the highest
quality option I can choose?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

So very happy to find an alternative to use spotify on a squeezebox!
Thank you!

There are 93 pages of comments on this thread. I've looked through
them, but can't find a guide to do the install. I'm running max2play on
a pi. Can anyone point me to a place with a step by step tutorial? I'm
pretty technical, but not technical enough to do all the things listed
as some steps require specific knowledge that I don't have (somewhat of

had disabled the spotify plugin when in installed the triode spotify
solution. Realized that I couldn't see other's playlist so removed,
triodes stuff, installed Spotify Protocol Handler, but forgot to add
back spotify itself. DOH! Thanks for the reminder. Now we just need a
protocol handler for deezer and my build will be complete.
