I think I understand, but just to make sure. It seems like Spotify uses Ogg Vorbis, but does not pass through the information needed to uncompress the file back to it's original form (I think that is possible; they just don't to it), therefore, when Spotty uncompresses the file, it does expand the 'container' to FLAC or PCM, however the 'container' is only partially full. Said another way, the pipe is FLAC or PCM, but the sound flowing through it is only 1/3 full (320 vs 1440, etc.). Or even another way, Spotify provides the music that is compressed to 320kbps and since they don't (but should!) send the information necessary to fully uncompress it, converting the music to FLAC or PCM means the format is different, but the quality is the same. If that's true, please let me know.
