I read that the code needs serious cleanup because there is a lot of
legacy code present. Let's see how this develops, there are enough
decent remote-app alternatives available already of course. But maybe a
few ideas or features can be used from this code.

That said: It would be nice if the Squeeze Commander code would be open
sources as well, IMO that was the best remote app out there around
2010/2011. It served me well for years until it became incompatible with
a new Android version.

This indeed should work, but installing & running Squeezelite manually
on a Linux system often isn't that easy due to permissions and/or audio
middleware/engines/daemons like Pipewire, Alsa and/or PulseAudio that
might be present on your system. Not long ago that was the reason I gave
it up with a self-configured Squeezelite for my Debian/Ubuntu systems.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezelite - gapless playback of Ogg/Vorbis

2022-01-20 Thread zordaz

I have noticed that the last version of pCP that worked properly was pCP
5.0.0. Also the latest version of HifiBerryOS (nov 2021) works properly
when configured as a SB softwareplayer.
Very strange indeed.

I know of course that Ogg/Vorbis can be considered a legacy format, but
currently it is still the lossy codec with the best gapless playback
handling. Because of that reason I have a lot of local Ogg/Vorbis files,
therefore I still hope that some people with appropriate knowledge of
Squeezelite and pCP are willing to investigate this further.

I have also opened an issue at Github for Squeezelite b.t.w.

I am playing Ogg/Vorbis files without any problems since the very first
day I bought a SB Duet in 2010 via LMS running on a self installed Linux
server. Since 2015 I am also using software players (Squeezelite) and
never had issues with Ogg/Vorbis.

Do you only use a manually configured Squeezelite config for playback or
do you have other devices as well to test with? You also might test
playback via Squeezelite-X, which should work out of the box on a
Windows computer. If that works well then there is probably something
wrong only with your Squeezelite settings.

(Btw: the only issue I am having with Squeezelite is that gapless
playback is not always perfect with Ogg/Vorbis, sometimes you can hear
small glitches).

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezelite - gapless playback of Ogg/Vorbis

2021-06-28 Thread zordaz

Today I noticed audible glitches during gapless playback when playing
Ogg/Vorbis files via Win10/Squeezelite-X (latest version) and
HifiBerry/piCoreplayer (latest version, no config adjustments on
Squeezelite). Afaik Squeezelite should support gapless playback, and
when I encode and play the same songs as FLAC files, the playback via
Squeezelite-X and PiCoreplayer is indeed 100% gapless.

When playing the Ogg/Vorbis files with Foobar2000 they also play
perfectly gapless, the same when playing them on a Squeezebox Radio
(with official regular Logitech firmware).

Is this known behaviour of Squeezelite or a possible bug? As Ogg/Vorbis
supports gapless playback by design I am rather confused...

I am running the latest version of Squeezelite-X and most of the songs I
play stops approx 30-40 seconds before the end. Sometimes they continue
after a few seconds, sometimes they don't. Manually restarting the song
from the beginning is always possible. It therefore looks like a
buffering issue or something like that.
I already cleared the cache, rebooted the computer, but I am not very
experienced with Squeezelite-X where to look further, any suggestions?

Ah interesting ;-) It was literally the first question that came up here
when configuring Spotify Family in LMS. We don't use Spotify Connect
here, my kids are used to and understand the difference between a local
and a Spotify music library. They even refused my suggestion to use the
LMS8.0 library integration function

Anyway, more use case specific:
In the LMS GUI, Spotify search is the centralized way of searching music
on Spotify.
When you find an artist, album or playlist via search, and you want
'follow' it you can click or touch the button on you mobile device.
The question then is of course: in which library is it saved? For now I
simply don't know, and apparently I am not the only one :-)
In the ideal world you should be able to select the library you want to
save it in.

I guess this is a function request?

The issue wasn't about the unreadable usernames, the human readable
Spotify profile names indeed came through after a few minutes.
What I described was with these human readable names. To my surprise
that issue solved itself auto-magically; when I checked it the next
morning all display names were ok and also the prefs file contained the
right data. Very strange?! You can see in the prefs file above that it
contains the name 'Ivo' twice, which is wrong.

Which leads me to another question:
How can I add an artist or album to a specific's Spotify user-library
when using the default LMS gui or Material skin?

The Spotty search box disappears behind the upper parts of the screen

The 'Mobile' version works OK and Firefox on my mobile device also works
fine.
It this a known bug?

Now I understand why my wife was complaining earlier this week!
Before the removal all my family members could use it as a drop in
replacement. For me the removal of this makes the skin unusable as a
100% replacement for native apps.
There are several use cases where a folder browse option works better
than relying on tags. There are even use cases where it is the only way
to quickly find music in your local collection; think for example of new
and still not properly or untagged music.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty v1.1.0

2017-07-10 Thread zordaz

I am using Spotty for a few days now, and most of the time everything
works fine.
Sometimes however Spotty skips a track and moves to the next one when
listening to a full album (that is what I mostly do).
In some cases it is able to re-select the skipped track, but this is not
always possible. It then skips the track again.

Which logging etc. can I check? I have set the Spotty cache size on
500MB and have plenty of disk space available.

System:
Xubuntu 16.04LTS
LMS 7.9.1~1499335603
Spotty 1.1.0

The old Spotify cache can be quite big, mine was 515 Megabyte. I have
deleted it.
My LMS is running on a Xubuntu 16.04LTS server. It is also running
Mediatomb and by default a few services advertised via Avahi I think.
What advertising/discovery technology is used by Spotty?

Thanks, the first impressions on my RPI/Hifiberry are great!
I have two questions:
1 - I presume for the initial authorization you have to run the mobile /
desktop Spotify application on the same device where LMS is running? I
had to use the username/password solution on my LMS/Linux system because
using the client on other devices didn't work.
2 - After disabling the Official Spotify plugin & Spotify Protocol
handler from LMS: is the cache deleted as well? Or do I have to remove
it manually? If so: which files/dirs do I have to remove in
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache etc.?
