Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC SC7.2 progress?
The Mac information on the AlienBBC assumes no prior knowledge of usr/bin/local but simply the ability to use the Go menu in the Finder: mplayer should be put in /usr/local/bin, because lame was placed there for you in step 2. Note that this folder is normally invisible, but can be made visible using Go to Folder in the Finder's Go menu (either type /usr and navigate as usual, or type /usr/local/bin). http://www.x2systems.com/AlienBBC/installation.html#mac The OP seems not to have tried to follow these simple directions, saying instead (to paraphrase), I don't know usr/bin/local and don't want to know so I put mplayer in a totally different folder and it didn't work. Thanks as always to bpa and everybody else who provides wonders like AlienBBC. -- axiomatic SqueezeCenter Version: 7.1 - 22170 @ Mon Jul 28 13:32:51 PDT 2008 - Mac OS X 10.5.4 (9E17) - EN - utf8 axiomatic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3775 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52477 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC SC7.2 progress?
Apologies for the confusion. I'm pleased to say that I now have some kind of a working Alien BBC plugin. I reinstated the original MPlayerOSX_1.0rc2.dmg into the Applications folder and put the latest mplayer.sh into the Library/Application Support/SqueezeCenter/Plugins/Alien/bin folder. Then restarted the Mac and fired up Softsqueeze. Now I get the live streams but not all of the listen again streams (still to be corrected in your new version with iPlayer?). The pasted address you gave me for the Tune in URL of the Web UI didn't appear to work at first but then it was apparent that the browser doesn't play it, the Squeezebox proper actually does, and it too now works. I think therefore that I am now a fairly happy customer. The reinstallation may have cured my problems. All I would ask is that the Mac install process and its instructions could be simplified as you've done for Windows and as SqueezeCentre has done for all platforms. I am a little more technically minded than some but have still not found such things as /usr/local/bin on this machine and probably really don't want to. Your help has been greatly appreciated as has the Alien BBC product which I've enjoyed using for several years on the PC platform. Now a confirmed Mac addict, I am happy to see that Alien still remains quite friendly. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC SC7.2 progress?
All I would ask is that the Mac install process and its instructions could be simplified as you've done for Windows and as SqueezeCentre has done for all platforms We keep trying but between small changes in OSX and Mplayer between versions it is hard top keep up. The install should be 1. Install the plugin 2. Install Mplayer dmg as per Mplayer HQ instructions - no longer any need to extract any mplayer from the dmg. What do you mean by put the latest mplayer.sh into the Library/Application Support/SqueezeCenter/Plugins/Alien/bin folder. I need to check with Triode but I thought the latest mplayer.sh just changed the location for PPC mplayer - no change for Intel Mplayer. Did you use the install instruction on the www.x2systems.com web page or the Slimdevice Wiki AlienBBC page or somewhere else ? To improve the installation, Can you summarise in noddy instructions the steps you had to perform to install - please give URLs to the instructions you used and the latest mplayer.sh. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52477 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC SC7.2 progress?
I did use the x2systems instructions as shown by clicking the Slim Devices website's Community / Forums / Audio / Alien BBC route. Then I installed the Alien plugin into my Library / Application Support/SqueezeCenter/Plugins folder. I believe that this does install a version of mplayer.sh into its bin folder and it probably works fine but a later one came up in the forums just as I was having problems. Probably wasn't needed. The tricky bit was the installation of the mPlayer executable as obtained from the link on the x2systems instructions http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html. This nasty site came up with a myriad of alternatives, codecs and general confusion. The simple advice I'd give would be to only download the appropriate .dmg version for one's specific computer, open the volume it produces and simply drag the MPlayer OSX file into the Applications folder on your Mac. Then restart the Mac and enjoy the music. I hope that is as clear as I can make it and wish that the mPlayer route was much simpler but guess it will be with us for some time to come until the BBC move to a different streaming method ... Hope this helps other innocents abroad :-) Viv -- vhs vhs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2918 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52477 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Is there a planned Alien update for SqueezeCentre 7.2? I can't seem to install the current version on my iMac and believe I read that this will soon be resolved, together with iPlayer functionality. I miss my BBC. What news? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC SC7.2 progress?
AlienBBC 2.01 for 7.1 works on 7.2 as well. Make sure you are using 2.01 for 7.1 and not 2.01 for 7.0 There is an iPlayer Addon (v5 see http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=328690postcount=133 ) which is needed to access the iPlayer menus. A new version of AlienBBC which removes the old menus and just has the iPlayer menus will be available shortly but if you are having install problems then it is likely you will have the same install problem with this new release as the main change is just in the menu. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52477 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC SC7.2 progress?
Right - now the Alien plugin is installed and comes up on my menus. However nothing plays and I'm sure that this relates to mplayer. I followed your instructions for installation but it doesn't make sense to a non techie new Mac user (although all other software installs on my iMac are working fine. Help please. I've downloaded the MPlayerOSX_1.0rc2.dmg package and expanded it to reveal one player executable. Tried copying that into the Applications folder and rebooted everything. No music. Can someone experienced in Macs (Leopard) please give me some noddy instructions to get this to work, preferably without having to encode source files etc? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC SC7.2 progress?
First a quick check on the installation. In Settings / Advanced/ FileTypes are there 3 entries for RTSP and are they enabled ? If you have enabled RTSP entries then paste the following URL into WebUI Tune-in and click play icon on RHS of Tune-in. rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/ev7/live24/radio4/live/r4_dsat_g2.ra Describe if it plays, no audio but counter moves, displays an error message (e.g. RTSP convert error), it does nothing or somehting else. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52477 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC SC7.2 progress?
Looks like mplayer issue. 1. Remove the current mplayer installation. 2. Copy and unzip the mplayer found here http://www.x2systems.com/alienbbc/mplayer_intel_osx.zip 3. Save the downloaded mplayer into /usr/local/bin 4. Make sure the mplayer is executable and ordinary users can run it. 5. Thanks for the help - I don't know about usr/local/bin but I copied your executable into the Applications folder (under my name, the administrator) and it won't play. The previous executable actually did play Radio 2 but not Radio 4; I didn't check any other stations. Sorry to drag this out but have you any other suggestions?
